Zaragoza is a city located in the Aragon regionof Spain and is the fifth largest Spanish City.

I visited for a long summer weekend and I foundit to be a complete cultural gem and a reallyauthentic Spanish city.

Zaragoza is filled with museums, religious sites, beautifulRenaissance buildings, gorgeousSpanish streets and a range ofamazing restaurants offering tapasand local food.

1. Zaragoza's iconic Basilica del Pilar

Basilica del Pilar is Zaragoza’s most iconicbuilding and main landmark, and its nothard to see why. The Basilica is huge andextremely impressive from the outside, inside and from above!

It’s possible to take a lift up the Basilica delPilar Tower, sixty metres high, to see astunning view across the City, River andover the beautifully tiled Basilica Roof.

I would definitely suggest using the Basilicadel Pilar as a starting point when you arrivein Zaragoza and to admire the Basilica fromthe outside, inside and from above!

2. Aljaferia Palace

Aljaferia Palace was one of my favouriteplaces that I visited whilst in Zaragoza, dueto its incredible history.

The origin of the Palace is Muslim. Theoriginal tower was built in the 9th Centuryand the Palace followed in the 11th Century. It has been passed through quite a few handsand in the 18th Century, it was even used asa Military Base!

Now it's open to the public to stroll around, there’s a gorgeous courtyard filled withorange trees, evidence of a mosque and therooms inside the Palace have been preservedin all their glory featuring a lot of gold!

Aljaferia Palace is just a short walk or taxiride out of the historical centre of Zaragozaand well worth a visit.

3. Zaragoza has great museums

If you like a good museum, Zaragoza is theCity for you! It’s home to many museumsincluding a Tapestry museum, a RomanArcheological museum, an Origamimuseum and lots more which evolve aroundart and Goya in particular.

Goya is one of the most famous andimportant painters in the world, it is said heis the father of the modern Movement andZaragoza is home to a lot of his work in itsmuseums, churches and even statues on thestreet because, Goya was from the Aragonregion of Spain.

Zaragoza is very proud to have thisconnection and if you don’t know muchabout Goya or his work before you go, youwill when you leave.

4. Zaragoza fiestas

It's not just historic buildings andinformative museums that makeZaragoza a cultural gem though.Zaragoza’s calendar is full offestivals which range from its mainannual festival- Fiestas del Pilarheld in October, to dance festivals, music festivals and an Urban streetart festival called Festival Asaltowhich is held every year inSeptember.

Artists from all over the world haveone week to complete their streetart designs in the El Ganchoneighbourhood and afterwards, theart is there to stay. It’s really easy tospend a few hours getting lost inthe back streets of El Ganchofinding all of these beautiful pieces.

5. Amazing food and you can even get aspecial Tapas Card

Let’s touch on the amazing food inZaragoza. As I said Tapas are very popular inZaragoza. The tourist board has evenbrought out a Tapas Card for tourists, whichenables you to try out a range ofrecommended restaurants and tapas dishesto ensure you get the most out of your stay!

The tourist board created the Tapas Card tohelp tourists around the city, however onething I noticed and loved about Zaragoza isthat there are no tourist areas of the city orspecifically tourist restaurants.

Two restaurants I loved and wouldrecommend going to are Casa Lac andMontal, both in the historical centre ofZaragoza.

6. Zaragoza is full of friendly localpeople

Finally, one of the really specialthings about Zaragoza is its localpeople.

I found them to be extremelyfriendly both whilst I was inZaragoza, but also afterwards whenI was posting about my trip online.

They are very hospitable especiallywhen eating in their establishmentsand visiting the icons of the city.

They seem to really love their cityand are very proud of it and itreally shows!
