PROGRAMME MED / MED PROGRAMME2007-2013
Project BIOLMED
SummaryThe general objective concerns the improvement of the Mediterranean organic
olive growing competitiveness through the sharing and the know-how transfer.
In order to obtain a coordinated development of the whole Mediterranean
olive-growing sector, the direct involvement of the operators, the comparison
among them and with the scientific institutions, the experience exchange in
order to sustain the entrepreneurial development and the acquisition of the
scientific innovations are strongly needed. Therefore, the proposal foresees
the creation of a BIOLMED permanent transnational network based on
some consolidated experiences at local level (Biol Exhibitions), presenting a
cross role compared with the project activities and representing a continuous
moment of transnational comparison on product and processing innovations.
Summary
Specifically, the transnational permanent network plans to establish
regional front offices with the aim of sustaining the agriculture company
development, to improve the organic olive oil quality production, to
promote regional meetings and to spread data on organic farming
control and certification systems. The front office becomes also the
main subject in charge of organizing Biol Exhibition at local level and
sharing regional initiatives through a networking system.
General and specific objectives of the project
The general purpose of the project is the improvement of Mediterranean
organic olive-growing competitiveness through the sharing and the know-
how transfer.
The transfer model to the agro-food companies is founded on the
creation of an incentivating path based on a transnational network
that have been cooperating to the organic production chain quality,
promotion and the know-how transfer organizing events in Mediterranean
regions (BIOL exhibition, n° 13 edition).
Objectives● Editing of quality production chain manuals and of a catalogue on
innovation;● Share and to transfer good practices; ● Improve the production chain quality and its environmental impact; ● Create and spread company integrated management systems on organic
product quality, favouring its adoption, company access to the international markets;
● Develop local markets, ideal places to sell organic products; ● Establish Group Purchasing Organisation and Farmers Markets models;
(favouring the direct purchasing from small local producers, economical advantages for both consumers and producers, as well as an environmental impact reduction due to the transport of goods)
The whole project is particularly orientated to the sharing and transfer of project results, contributing to the BIOL prizes organization at regional level but with an involvement of international partners and companies.

Innovative aspects of the BIOLMED project
The project outputs are meant to encourage the implementation of regional development policies for quality agriculture in the framework of which organic farming plays a role of utmost importance.
Dealing with the entire production chain is the real innovation, by improving products quality and production process and by intervening on the local market and on the management of the certification procedures.
The purpose is to boost the organic farms’ competitiveness by contributing to the socio-economic and environmental sustainability of the territories. Organic agriculture positively intervenes on the farms’ competitiveness, the environment (low impact), and the social sphere (increase in manpowerdemand).
Management of the project
The LP is responsible for the presentation, coordination, management and complete implementation of the project, by carrying out an integrated monitoring of technical, administrative and financial aspects and assessing the success of the initiative.
Management of the project
To better guarantee the project success, a Steering Committee (SC), with territorial representatives, and an External Auditor have been appointed. They both play a double role: supervising and orientating the project activities in order to ensure the project quality. The SC has also the task of verifying the territorial and transnational coverage of activities carried out by the project partners.
