TRANSCRIPT
COMPACT +PRODUCTIVE
In the first panel keynote speakers will share their experience on built environments in urbanized territories outside traditional city cores. Each individual short presentation will showcase some key reflections the speaker would consider essential to opti-mize planning in the “urban land”.
The discussion will sharpen the view on recurring aspects along some of these questions: Is it appropriate to challenge inherited con-ceptions of the urban, running the risk to weaken the universal demand for bound-ed settlement? How can the benefits be described that result from a greater vision for urbanized territory? Why is urban life no longer limited to large city centres? Is it desirable to support a robust “urbanized” self-image in peripheral territories and could that help sustainability?
ThOMAs AUER Founding partner Transsolar and Professor of Climate Responsive Design- has pursued radical approaches to climate engineering in buildings, neighborhoods and the city for more than 25 years

sUZANNE POTJERProject Lead at Urban Futures Studio, Uni-versity Utrecht - focuses on questions of how cities can learn from each other in a multi-level governance context and how ex-periments can incentivize this.
JÖRG sChRÖDERProfessor of Urban Planning at Leibniz Uni-versity - an expert on peripheries and ur-ban-rural cooperation, observes dynamic de-velopments and changing relations outside metropolitan areas

CONNECTED +BALANCED
In the second session five keynote speak-ers have been asked to share their experi-ence on the need to qualify infrastructure and understand the systemic relationships in urbanized territories outside traditional city cores. The fifteen minute presenta-tions will focus on new levers to drive sustainable developments that have been found in their individual work - mobility, accessibility, green or water infrastructure refer to physical networks, while other con-tributions provide insights into relational systems.
Backbones for the discussions will be the following questions: What can stimulate the integrated view on infrastructure (spa-tial, economical, social) that is needed? Is there a demand for radical positions to effect real change? Should planners advo-cate a Green New Deal?

COORDINATED +ExPERIMENTAL
In the third session the experts will engage in six dialogues on specific topics. Each couple receives a fifteen minute slot to ex-change experiences and ideas and leave some take-aways to the audience on what has worked and what not in urban experi-mentation. Each dialogue pair will be intro-duced briefly and given a topic for their talk.

We invite you to exchange views among speakers and participants following the Ur-ban Land Conference. The frame is created by the artist Arpad Dobriban with a meal series under the title “Available Food”. We combine extraordinary food culture and sufficient time for discussions between decision makers of the region from politics, business, science and civil society.
urbanes.land sets a focus on urbanized territories of intermediate density. It spe-cializes in evidence-based analysis and strategic consulting of planning bodies and policy makers at a municipal and regional level. The institutes research applies differ-ent tools on different scales – classical ge-ographic methods, cartography and stake-holder analyses are being complemented by open source data editing, net based archives, storytelling and social media ex-periments. The team facilitates, initiates and supports planning processes and un-ravels new arguments. Current projects are in South West Germany, the Benelux and Baltic States.
