TOGETHER IN SONG

PROCESSIONAL 274 The people that in darkness walked

GRADUAL 234 How good, Lord, to be here!

OFFERTORY 210 O for a thousand tongues to sing

RECESSIONAL 520 Lord enthroned in heavenly splendour

SENTENCE Celebrant It is the God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6

THE COLLECT OF THE DAY Celebrant Eternal God, our glorious King, whose Son Jesus Christ was transfigured on the holy mountain and seen in splendour by his chosen witnesses: grant us, his followers, faith to perceive his glory, to listen to him, and to walk in his way, that we may be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD All sit A reading from the book of Exodus 24:12-18

The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and wait there; and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.” So Moses set out with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God. To the elders he had said, “Wait here for us, until we come to you again; for Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a dispute may go to them.” Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. The glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the cloud. Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. Moses entered the cloud, and went up on the mountain. Moses was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.

Hear the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

PSALM 2

1 Why are the | nations • in | tumult

And why do the peoples |cherish a | vain | dream?

2 The kings of the earth rise up * and the rulers con | spire to | gether: Against the Lord and a | gainst • his an | ointed | saying,

3 ‘Let us break their | bonds a | sunder: Let us throw | off their | chains | from us.’

4 He that dwells in heaven shall | laugh them to | scorn: The Lord will | hold them | in de | rision.

5 Then will he speak to them in his wrath* and terrify them |in his |fury: ‘I the Lord have set up my king on | Zion my | holy | hill.’

6 I will announce the Lord’s decree * that which| he has | spoken: ‘You are my son this | day have | I be | gotten you.

7 ‘Ask of me * and I will give you the nations for | your in | heritance: The uttermost parts of the | earth for | your po | ssession.

8 You shall break them with a | rod of | iron: And shatter them in | pieces • like a | potter’s |vessel.’

9 Now therefore be | wise O | kings: Be advised you that are | judges | of the | earth.

10 Serve the Lord with awe * and govern yourselves in | fear and | trembling: Lest he be angry and you | perish | in your | course.

┼11 For his wrath is | quickly | kindled: Blessed are those that | turn to | him for | refuge.

A reading from the second letter of Peter 1:16-21 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honour and glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, ‘This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.’ We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain. So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. Hear the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. GRADUAL HYMN – 234 How good, Lord, to be here! GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Cantor Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! This is my Son, the beloved; with whom I am well pleased; listen to him! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

A reading from the holy gospel according to Matthew 17:1-19

Sung Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ. Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I

will make three dwellings

here, one for you, one for Moses, and one

for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!”

When the disciples

heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus

came and touched them, saying, “Get up and do not be afraid.” And when

they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.” This is the gospel of the Lord. Sung Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ. SENTENCE Celebrant

Beloved, we are God’s children now; it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2

NOTICES ORGAN POSTLUDE As a courtesy to those who remain in the church to listen to the organ voluntary in its entirety, you are encouraged to enjoy conversation and fellowship outside the building. The voluntary is a liturgical musical offering to God.

All welcome

During Lent, you will find an ABM envelope in the pewsheet. These might help us as to how we apply one of the three penitential principals of Lent – almsgiving. Jesus teaches that giving alms means making the needs of others our own. They are all around us: children and the old, the sick and the suffering, families and individuals, next-door neighbours and people in

faraway lands. Whatever we give should be something of ourselves, something that costs us. What shall we give to the needy this Lent? Remember. Before us are the great alms Jesus gave: He loved us and gave himself up for us.

The Reverend Tim St Quintin has accepted Archbishop Glenn’s invitation to be our new rector and Bishop Chris has advised that the Commencement Service will be on Thursday 20 April at 7.00pm.

Fr Tim is married to Sarah and they have 3 children: Will, Callum and Kate. They will be living off-site and close by at the start of his ministry while our rectory is undergoing renovations. We look forward to the welcoming the St Quintin Family in April. Copies of Fr Tim’s CV are available at the West Door.
