Academic Advising• Transfer Students need to be advised in their

AREA/MAJOR as soon after admission as possible.

• Transfer Center and Registrar’s Office personnel can provide general advising, but decisions about AREA/MAJOR/MINOR and career/professional planning must be handled by Academic Advisors.

• Transfer Students need to be engaged in their AREA/MAJOR/MINOR as soon as they are admitted and have a RACR.

RACR

• When a Transfer Advisee comes for advising, completed academic work of all kinds should be included on the Transfer Advisee’s RACR.

Transcripts, score reports, etc., for all previous work must be submitted to the Transfer Center.

• Academic work in-progress should be reported to the Academic Advisor; Advisees should submit records as soon as grades, scores, etc., are available.

RACR

• “Unrestricted Electives: Additional Hours toward Degree” is at the BOTTOM of the RACR.

• Often, courses that are not included in the MSU transfer equivalency database are found here.

• Database: https://ssb.murraystate.edu/PBLC/ms_transfer.p_display_states Courses that have already been evaluated for transfer equivalency are found here.

• If course is not in database, it has not yet been evaluated; contact the Transfer Center for help with evaluation.

RACR

• Each TRN course listed on the RACR will include course title and institution.

• For the AREA/MAJOR/MINOR for which you are the Academic Advisor, you may substitute an appropriate course using the Course Exception form (Registrar/Forms). This process substitutes the course for just this student.

• IF a 100- or 200-level course is transferred IN to substitute for a 300+-level MSU course, the course transferred in does NOT count toward the required 300+-level hours toward graduation. See the first box on the RACR for this requirement. An Advisee may need additional upper-division electives to fulfill this requirement.

RACR

• If a course should be included in the Transfer Equivalency database, contact the Transfer Center. This process establishes equivalency for all students who transfer in that course .

• IF a 100- or 200-level course is transferred IN as equivalent to a 300+-level MSU course, the course transferred in does NOT count toward the required 300+-level hours toward graduation. See the first box on the RACR for this requirement. An Advisee may need additional upper-division

electives to fulfill this requirement.

• For University Studies course substitution, use the University Studies Substitution form, found on the University Studies website.
