Transas Signs Agreement With Carnival Corporation05 May 2015 .

The World's Largest Cruise Company Will Utilize the Maritime Industry's Most Advanced Simulators from Transas atthe Company's World-Class Training Facility in Netherlands, Where 6,500 Deck and Engineering Officers GoThrough Extensive Annual Training

THE NETHERLANDS (MAY 05, 2015) – Today Transas and the Center for Simulator and Maritime Training (CSMART) -- theworld-class training facility for Carnival Corporation & plc, the world's largest travel and leisure company with nine globalbrands and a fleet of 101 cruise ships -- signed a multi-million euro contract to utilize Transas' state-of-the-art simulatorsat CSMART's new facility, scheduled to open in summer 2016 in Almere, just outside Amsterdam.

Carnival Corporation has operated its current CSMART training facility in Almere since 2009. The new CSMART facility willbe much larger, with capacity for providing annual training for 6,500 deck and engineering officers. The CSMART facility willbe the largest in terms of training capacity and will utilize the most advanced and innovative technology solutions available inthe maritime industry.

The CSMART facility will house navigational and engine room simulators in various configurations from classroom stationsup to part-task and full mission solutions, interlinked to provide training and assessment for the entire crew. The newsimulation complex will be three times larger than the existing facility.

Transas' innovations for the CSMART project are likely to revolutionize the maritime simulation industry. Among them is theuse of Nvidia grid computers, which will save 70 percent of power consumption and will greatly enhance the management ofthe system and its redundancy.

An IP-based matrix switching system will contribute to the most flexible information exchange ever. It will be possible toaccess any task on any screen within the simulator. CCTV camera technology used at the ESA Space Centre will provideprofessional broadcast, AV control, recording and archiving system with full synchronization of all workstations, cameras, audio and more. This was the essential requirement for the Carnival Corporation and CSMART team, as it will optimize thelevel of the training experience.

Within this project, Transas will develop 12 cruise ship models and deliver 60 sailing areas specific for Carnival vessels'operations and three new cruise ship engine models with different propulsion systems, including virtual replica of shipautomation systems.

"At Carnival Corporation, our number one priority is the safety and comfort of the nearly 11 million guests who sail with usevery year," said Captain Hans Hederstrom, managing director of CSMART. "For us, providing the world's best training to ourdeck and engineering officers is essential in helping us meet that priority. For that reason, we recruit the best and mostpassionate instructors in the maritime industry -- and we have formed important partnerships with companies such asTransas, one of the world's most respected leaders in providing innovative and reliable software and hardware technologysolutions for our industry and others. The solutions from Transas provide our instructors with truly state-of-the-art technology-- and that gives them the ability to provide the best possible training experience to the thousands of deck and engineeringofficers who go through our intensive curriculum. We appreciate the commitment to excellence to training that Transasshares with all of us at Carnival Corporation."

Ralf Lehnert, Transas simulation business division director, said during the contract signing ceremony, "We at Transas arehonored to be selected for such an outstanding project as CSMART. Our team provided an amazing job to put together smartand innovative solutions to answer the challenging demands of Carnival cruises and to convince them to award us what Icalled an 'earthquake deal' in our industry, since this is the largest available project in maritime simulation as of today. Twoworld-class companies are coming together, and our partnership will set the new standard in the training for the cruiseindustry and beyond."

Project Summary

The navigation part of the simulation complex comprises four full mission bridges with 210 degrees horizontal field of viewwith two sets of bridge wings with dome projections. They are designed for comprehensive training and assessment for theentire bridge crew of a cruise ship including complex mooring operations in various conditions. Each such bridge will have itssafety training centre. Six part-task bridges with 120 degrees horizontal field of view and two part-task bridges of 180degrees horizontal field of view will provide for specific operations training and assessment. Each bridge will be interfacedwith NACOS Bridge Systems from SAM Electronics used onboard Carnival vessels. Seven instructor control stations will beused for monitoring and control of the above mentioned bridges. Six stations and rooms will serve for briefing and debriefing.CSMART will also receive a modelling station with the Transas Model Wizard and Virtual Shipyard software, which will allowthe centre to edit and create their own sailing areas and ship models and use full value of Transas simulation R&Dcapabilities. In addition, fast time simulation capability will allow for fast forward run and repetition of port entry ordisembarking which is ideal for port development and maneuvering studies.

The technological part of the CSMART complex will include four full mission engine room simulators, 12 sets of virtualmachinery space stations, two high voltage training systems, two engine room simulator classrooms (12 stations each), andfour debriefing stations and rooms. This project will see a premiere of the 3D engine compartments walk-through that can becontrolled via touchscreens or gaming controller. This functionality makes a person really feel like they are on a vessel in thecurrently simulated conditions. Special communication means, various access levels, and security systems will also beaccompanied by realistic links between the simulated environment and a physical Virtual Machinery Space cubicle. Alltogether such spaces will be beneficial for team training.
