Log into Banner by accessing the system in your MyUT portal. Once logged in, you will see the Banner home screen where youwill type in SSASECT to access course scheduling.

Enter information in all fields.Subject, Course Number, Section, Campus, Status andSchedule Type are required. After these fields are entered, youwill click Save. A CRN will generate. You may want to keeprecord of this number.Next, enter the Part of Term.

Creating a Section

To create a section, type in the Term and click Create CRN.

Instructional Method- DL for Distance Learning, DLC or BL forBlended or leave this field blank for Face to Face courses.Instructional Method is a field that cannot be changed oncestudents are enrolled*Special Approval- IN for instructor approval/permits

In most situations, you will not need to update the credit hours. Credit hours are updated if the variable credit hours needadjusted. Note: Credit Hours and Billing Hours must match.If the course should not be graded, uncheck the Gradable checkbox under the Class Indicators section.

Creating a Section

On the Section Enrollment Information tab, you will enter thecourse capacity information. Enter the maximum number of students able to enroll in thesection. Click Save. If necessary, you may also enter a Waitlist Maximum.Note: If you have course that is linked or has a co-requisite, youmay not use waitlisting.

Click on the Meeting Times and Instructor tab.Tab through the Meeting Times, the Start and End Dates willpopulate automatically. Enter the days of the week as well as the Start and End Time.

Tab through to enter additional information such as IndependentStudies, DL, Remote or Session Credit Hours.Click Save.

To add an instructor, click on the ... in the ID field.

Ensure the Faculty checkbox is click and click Go.

Search for instructor using Last Name.

Once you find the instructor, double click on their Rocket Number.This will bring you back to SSASECT. Verify Instructional Workload, Percent of Responsibility andPercent of Session.You may also insert an additional instructor if needed. Click Save.

The section is now complete.

To create a DL course, you will need to update the InstructionalMethod to DL. All DL sections must also have a 900 level section number.

On the Meeting Times and Instructor tab, you will leave the daysand times blank. This shows that the student will haveasynchronous meeting times.

Update the Building to OC and Room to DL Online under theMeeting Location and Credits tab.Click Save.

The Distance Learning section is now complete.

To create a Remote course, you will need to update theInstructional Method to DLC.All Remote sections must also have a 900 level section number.

On the Meeting Times and Instructor tab, you will enter the daysand times for the course. This shows that the student will havesynchronous meeting times.

Update the Building to OC and Room to Remote under theMeeting Location and Credits tab.You will need to add the letter O in the Override Indicator field.This will avoid conflict errors.Click Save.

On the Meeting Times and Instructor tab, there will be twomeeting patterns.One will be the on campus meeting pattern with days/time.Another will be a DL, Remote or Off Campus meeting pattern.This meeting pattern will have 0 Hours per Week listed.

To create a Blended course, you will need to update theInstructional Method to BL.Click Save.

The Blended section is now complete.

A course offered under more than one departmental subject code. The courses will carry identical catalog descriptions in each listing, andwill have identical course prerequisites if both courses areundergraduate. Cross-listing is used when two different courses meet in the same roomat the same time and are taught by the same instructor.

What is a Cross Listed course?

To cross list sections, you will use the Cross List field.Make note of the CRNs of the sections you are going to crosslist.View one of the sections and click on the ... next to the CrossList field.This will allow you to locate an identifier.

Type in the term and click Go.

The results will show all identifiers. Click on one at a time to findone that is not in use. If in use, you will see the courses usingthe identifier under Cross List Section. Write down the identifier.Click Cancel.This will take you back to SSASECT.

Click Related at the top right of the screen.Select Cross List Definitions from the list.

Type in the identifier you chose and click Go.

Next, you will pull in the course sections you wish to cross list.Enter the Maximum Enrollment between both sections. Note: This field will need to be adjusted when updating theenrollment capacity for a section associated with the cross list.Add each CRN under Cross List Section. Click Save.

When you review each section in SSASECT, you will notice theidentifier in the Cross List field.

Add IS as the Schedule Type for Individual Studies.Abbreviate Title. Click Save.Write down CRN.

Build the section as you typically would and as listed in previouspages.

Next, you will need to update the Long Title. Click Related on the top right of the screen.Select Section Syllabus Form.

Next, you will need to update the Long Title. Click Related on the top right of the screen.Select Section Syllabus Form.

Type in Long Title. The long title will appear on the students'transcript.Click Save.

Billing Hours must match Credit Hours. This will ensurestudents are charged the correct tuition. You may change a variable credit hour to fixed as long asstudents are not enrolled. To update a fixed credit hour course, a course modification willneed submitted through CIM.

In SSASECT, click on the Related button toward top right sideof the screen. Select Course Section Detail.

Create a section as you typically would. Scroll down to the bottom of SSASECT. You will see the ClassIndicators section.

Next, link the recitation portion of the course. Open the recitation in SSASECT.

Select Course Section Detail from the Related options. Enter the link connector. For example: R1, R2, R3Click Save.Note: L1 must link with R1, L2 must link with R2

Enter your Link Identifier in the field. For example: The lectureportion: L1, L2, L3

Update the Credit and Billing Hours for the recitation to 0hours. Enter the Link Identifier as R1, R2 or R3. Again, if you arelinking a L1, it should be linked to R1. L2 to R2...Uncheck the Gradable box if the recitation is not graded. Click Save. Select Course Section Detail from the Related options.

Enter the Link Connector. L1, L2, L3...Click Save.

Review the Section Fees to ensure they total zero.Note: If a lab needs to be linked, you will follow the samerecitation linking process using a B1, B2, B3 code.
