Emerging Community Development Leader,
Your dreams and ambitions are an asset to our industry. As a group ofemerging leaders, we recognize that at times it seems there are plenty oftraining opportunities to hone your technical expertise but not your leadershipskills. When we came together throughout 2012 and early 2013 we set forthwith a goal to smooth the path for other current and future emerging leaders. This resource guide is just one of the products of our efforts.
So now what? you may be asking yourself. The guide is not, despite our bestefforts, an all encompassing catalog of leadership development training. Wehope it will be a starting point for those of you looking to take the next stepbut thinking there is not something out there for you. We hope yourcompanies will support your curiosity and ambition to grow your leadershipabilities. Regardless of their support, this guide is intended as a starting pointfor you. Fear not, there are opportunities both locally and nationally; both inyour industry and for all professionals. We also hope that you recognize thatwhile some of these training opportunities may have passed by the time youpick up this guide, the organizations represented here are also a fine place tostart in looking for training. Many of the sessions, classes, and conferenceslisted occur on an annual basis so look for those next time around.
No really…what now? Learning is a lifelong experience. Cliché right? You’renot going to click off a set number of these and *poof* be the best leaderpossible. Pick something that looks interesting to you; something that will helpyou strengthen a weakness or further build a strength; or something that amentor has recommended and jump in. We wish you all the best and hope tosee you sitting on one of our boards, partnering with us on our nextdevelopment (or financing it!), or leading our local municipality soon.
