Unfortunately, I had to miss the beginning and end of the session due to other commitments, however the section I was able to attend was very well presented and I have found myself still thinking about the content a few weeks later. It will have a positive impact on my practice and has refreshed my outrage at the way our society treats people which will help me to keep this issue at the forefront of my mind. I enjoyed the history element of the training and learned new stuff regarding trans issues. It was good to think about how we can make the centre more explicitly inclusive. The training was very useful and certainly raised my awareness around LGBT and how to support the young people who I work with appropriately. Quite informative and enlightening.

Nottinghamshire Women’s Aid (15 people) November 2017I found today’s training both interesting and informative. The content will be put to good use in my future practice and I am already considering the ways in which I can increase my own awareness around LGBT issues and share my awareness with others – thank you very much. Very well delivered, interesting and full of information – the training has supported my own awareness. This has been very interesting training, delivered at a steady pace so as not to overload with new information. I learned lots of new information including the everyday barriers that LGBT people encounter. I hope to be able to be more supportive and empathetic in the future. The traing was extremely informative. How it was delivered was interactive with powerful use of resources. Would be great if all staff were able to access this training. Amazing what the volunteers from the Network are doing for the LGBT community, working with organisations to raise awareness. Would be great of more resources are available for the Children and Young People’s workers to use when working with young people. The training today was informative and delivered by someone who has been involved with these issues for years, his understanding and eloquence of the subject made it interesting and my personal understanding has improved. 3. What did you like least about it?Uncomfortable room; nothing; I liked it all

Proud to be gay LGBT awareness training November 2013Great training session - really good day – very thorough and clear – most useful; liked pointers on good practice. I found the LGB+T training very good – I learned a lot that I was not aware of before and will be putting things into place at my workplace; David was a lovely, friendly man who delivered the training brilliantly. Totally enjoyed the day as it was both interesting, informative and fun – would recommend it to anyone. Excellent day – thought provoking, delivered well in an interactive style; very relaxed atmosphere, gave me a lot to think about – would recommend it to others. Very informative, learned a lot; would have liked more discussion about sharing practice and some case studies. It was an excellent day, with some really good information well-delivered – thanks. Really interesting and helpful – has expanded my understanding and empathy for those from the LGBT community and the issues they face; I liked the teaching style and will recommend the course to others – thank you. Very informative, great to meet other professionals and have the chance to talk … would have liked a little more time for this and a little more on challenging homophobia I thought the training was very eloquently delivered, very well done, I loved it and will recommend to others .. lots of fun, thank you. Excellent, informative workshop; thought provoking and has provided me with materials that I will incorporate into school curriculum/tutor programme and staff training. Really enjoyed the whole day’s training; the learning style throughout was interactive and visual, which met my adult learning style; the contents of the day allowed for my knowledge base to be widened and allowed me to analyse what as an individual and as an agency we need to change to become more inclusive – brilliant day, thanks.

Training: “Proud to be gay” November 2012

I found today a very eventful eye-opening experience. It has opened my thoughts and feelings as to how and LGB+T person must feel when in the position they are in. I’m saddened that such levels of ignorance still exist. Keep up the good work. Very useful; useful tips. It would be good if you could talk personally to each of our organisations to see if you could offer good suggestions. A personal coming out story in place of the imagined scenario could be even more effective. Well presented and informative. Clear and concise – thank you. Excellent - very informative about the history, which made it interesting, but I think the final discussion might have been better with a whole team discussion, rather than presentations from small groups. Really interesting, made me think about things. The history part was great – showed how important gay people are in history. Very informative – learnt a lot of new and interesting info. Very inclusive to deaf participants, including good preparation for BSL interpreters. Enjoyed the training – learnt a lot, particularly about the history of LGBT issues. One area I felt could have been done differently was the “empathy” exercise – it may have opened up some past wounds for some people. Excellent

presentation, group work and resources. Very informative – will take back a lot of useful information – thank you. A serious subject, but handled with humour! Illuminating, thought provoking, engaging, disturbing at times – very well done. Really informative, got loads out of it and learnt from everyone. Good to see people from different organisations and with a positive attitude – thank you. Enjoyed the day, found it interesting and informative – thought there would be more on political correctness and protocol. Will make me explore NCC’s policies as I know very little.

Training “Proud to be gay” session November 2011Really useful and enjoyable. The day flew by. Reassured that our organisation is LGBT friendly, but can always do more. Informative. Very knowledgeable. Enjoyed the exercises very much and the participation. The day was well structured. Good knowledge and confident speakers. Very informative and thought provoking course - I will feed back to colleagues at my team meeting. Opportunity for discussion and sharing information during the afternoon was very useful – a group exercise in the morning would help to gather other people’s assumptions and ideas. Well done – very informative and interesting. Although there were light-hearted bits, I feel sad for the historical figures who suffered for their beliefs – which should never have happened – equality is the key. Informative and interesting, good mix of delegates for sharing experiences. Enjoyable and informative day – will recommend to my colleagues. Excellent course – learned a lot. Very informative and well-delivered – interesting and good balance between content, spoken material and interactive material. Very informative, educational and useful – keep up the good work. Really informative day, very useful information – would have liked a little longer on acceptable language and broaching sexuality in conversation. Very well delivered, thank you. Would be helpful to explore issues regarding religious liberty versus gay rights. Great info pack to take back for others. Excellent course, exceeded already high expectations – would welcome a bit around how to tackle discrimination, what can you do/say if you witness problems/questions to ask. Thoroughly enjoyable session, very thought provoking … though not sure how my workforce would receive this style! Good mixture of resources used – great delivery. Great training – would love to see this training delivered in all work places, organisations, institutions etc. Keep flying the flag David and Shirley, many thanks. Found the day very informative and helpful – thanks. Very good presentation, which was seamless with time to query any points – everything was well researched and we were able to take part easily. Enjoyed the day – liked the interactive exercises. Informative and useful, including the info pack to take away. The range of training exercises were varied an engaging. Really enjoyed today – informative and interesting – I’ve learned a great deal from trainers and other members of the group. Enjoyed the DVD and listening to the recordings of people coming out. Very interesting, engaging and informative – well presented and good resources. Enjoyable and some of the best training I’ve been to – well done and thanks. I really enjoyed the training, especially looking at the history related to it – it felt very informative and accurate .. no improvements needed.

Nottingham CVS 2011I thought it was a compelling morning. Enjoyed it, learned things I didn’t know. The training was excellent – really enjoyed it. I have been to quite a few LGBT sessions over the years and I have to say this was the best by far in terms of delivery by David who created a friendly informal atmosphere. The information around history was so interesting I could have continued listening all day – more please from David if possible. I thought the speaker was very engaging and approached the subject from

a non-preachy point of view - I think his format could have worked for other marginalized groups. I found the section on Coming Out really thought provoking as it hadn’t occurred to me that an LGB person would have to keep coming out each time they changed job or moved to a different place. Thanks for the session, found it really interesting and thought provoking and I definitely learned from the session. Thought the pace was spot on and the style of delivery pitched just right. Lots for our equality and diversity group to think about. Great presenter, made it really interesting. The DVD nearly made me cry. Great session, good learning. Interesting and well balanced between serious and entertaining. Right pitch and length of time – really enjoyed it. Well delivered, kept my interest, good exercises, could have listened for longer – really good. David has a very relaxed and welcoming manner for training. Really well presented, interesting and engaging speaker, very knowledgeable. Excellent session, well delivered, just the right mix of serious and humour. I really enjoyed the session and think I learned a lot – I’m pleased it wasn’t death by powerpoint. The gentleman was brilliant. This was one of the most interesting and beneficial sessions it has ever been my privilege to be part of, could have listened to David for hours. The brief DVD he showed was excellent; it was moving, informative and very well made.

Training “Proud to be Gay” session May 2010Excellent day – made me look at a lot of things I took for granted. Informative and fun session which has given me a lot to think about – thank you. A very well thought out and delivered session. Extremely informative and good interaction. The best training session I’ve been on in years, credit to the group of trainers … thank you. Thank you both – excellent, productive day; great material/handouts which I can use back “on the ranch”. An informative day which has provided a good base from which to continue development. It has also been enjoyable and varied, with the inclusion of the small group exercises. Was pleased to have my level of awareness affirmed, but also learnt lots of new information, particularly the historical stuff … a good day – thank you. This training day was informative and structured well; good discussions – will help me to make other staff aware. Some interesting things brought out; some good exercises (the 5 pieces of paper) and the video shown in the morning – very useful and effective. Good info and resources … the afternoon a little slow … could be more exercises to bring out our own/group knowledge. The reflective activity on the effects of coming out was really powerful and effective. Thanks for a genuinely thought provoking day. Really interesting and informative – I will take a lot back in terms of areas to develop and also to promote LGBT History Month; I have also developed my own personal awareness – thank you. Excellent, well-presented, clear up-to-date information; lots to take back to my immediate team and Children Centre. Lots to share across Newark and Sherwood C. Centre – thanks. Gained immense knowledge on LGBT awareness training with fantastic trainers who explained the information clearly and answered questions with excellent back up – overall a fantastic training – thank you. Confirmation of the need and use of setting up an LGBT group; gaining ideas of how to approach this; gaining concrete suggestions and resources to do so – thanks. I was expecting the day to be quite dry, but really enjoyed it. It was interesting and informative – thank you. Good day – gathered lots of info to feed back. Interested in other people’s thoughts and experiences – learned a lot from these and also got ideas for promoting LGB + T in the work place. Very useful to learn about the different issues associated with LGBT issues. Especially interesting to hear about the experiences of people who have come out. Good to find out about local contact and support groups we can use.

Trent University, Department of Social Work. March 2010Fantastic. I currently volunteer at Ashfield Women’s Centre - this session has helped show me more ways to involve everyone inclusively. I really enjoyed this session. Very well presented and interactive – thank you. Couldn’t fault the way it was presented and enjoyed the interactive elements in relation to a sensitive subject. Thank you very much, it was extremely good, interesting and helpful. Really enjoyed the session. Information presented in an entertaining way – kept my interest – thank you! Thank you for covering a sensitive subject sensitively. Excellent lecture, thoroughly enjoyed it. Not only very educational, but great fun too. It was useful because all the information given will help me on practice and also the lecture helped my understanding of LGB issues and pushed me to reflect on it. An excellent and thought provoking session. Made me consider issues surrounding LGB in different ways and will change my working practice for the better. Very enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed this lecture. I found it to be very interesting and am sure I shall use much of the information in my future practice. Thank you. This is a subject area I had very little knowledge about and found this presentation very, very useful, although I may not agree with all that was said, it was nonetheless useful and interesting for my practice as a social-worker-to-be. I found this workshop very interesting and thought provoking. The exercises we were set kept the session lively and interesting – rather than just sitting listening to someone speak. Very interesting and useful. I hope to be able to use the info and resources at work in the future. Brilliantly structured and thought out. Activity that involved speaking without mentioning friends was extremely effective. Very good handouts. I learnt a lot from this session – thank you. Very engaging speaker; just the right amount of humour and useful information. Very interesting, informative and enjoyable – thank you. This was well organised, though I found some of the parts a bit sensitive due to my values – however I enjoyed it. This is one of the most useful and interesting lectures of the whole course – I really enjoyed it and am glad I attended. It was made very enjoyable and therefore more interesting. It was interesting to cover a topic which affects our practice, but wasn’t too prescriptive in social work relevance – but it will assist good practice.

Tackling homophobic bullying in schools (Nottingham City Council 2010) (a small group)Very interesting and informative. Thank you. Excellent training. Very informative with lots of areas to process and take back to school. David delivered the training with passion, knowledge and commitment. A very enjoyable and interesting session. Interesting, relaxed and well organised – thank you.

Training for Notts Connexions 2009The training was mandatory for all staff (approx.200)

Page 25: Training for Nottinghamshire’s Rainbow Heritage€¦  · Web viewExtremely informative and interesting. Great training providing food for thought. Excellent presentation, relaxed

Found the training both interesting and useful. The session was very informative. Trainer David was very easy to listen to and made the session varied and interactive. Very thought provoking course. I will definitely put into practice things like having posters on display. Excellent training. Really useful to stop and think how our service is perceived by LGBT young people and how we can make it even more accessible for them. Thank you very much – that was educational and entertaining – really enjoyed the session. Very good presentation. Definitely raised my awareness. One of the most interesting and well-delivered training courses I have attended. This has been a very interesting and informative session! I found the session very interesting and informative – thank you. Thank you for a useful and interesting training. I have been on LGBT training before and have found this a useful update. Very good delivery of training. Informative, thought provoking and directly linked to my role as PA at Connexions. Excellent. Didn’t think I needed this, but there is a lot I’ll take away from it. Definitely raised awareness. Enjoyed the effort put in to vary the tasks. It was thought provoking and helpful. A big improvement on the last LGBT training I attended several years ago. Overall, very informative. I really enjoyed this training session – it was informative, interesting and well-structured. I found this session very useful and have increased my awareness/knowledge, which will help me when supporting young people and in my life in general. I enjoyed listening to the LGBT history too. It was delivered very effectively and the hand outs are great – very, very useful and up-to-date. Speaking as someone who isn’t “out” at Connexions – the “coming out” exercise proved useful. This gives people an idea of how I have to hide/mask an important part of my life. Training session was really interesting/good. There are many people in Connexions who are incredibly homophobic and hopefully attending this course will give them some insight on how it feels to be lesbian/gay. Very useful session. It was delightful to have theory/reflection/informed dialogue. Makes a nice change! Thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon. Very relaxed – great! Thank you. Can’t believe Connexions waited to roll this training out across the company! Brilliant – thanks very much. Enjoyed the session. Thank you – very useful and interesting. Feel I have learned useful things today and will be taking back ideas for the centre and to develop with tea/schools in the area. Very informative and interesting. Thank you. Good to have an external trainer. Gave us some positive ideas to make our service more LGBT friendly and accessible to all. Thanks. I found this very educating and opened my eyes to the history. Lovely manner as a trainer. Very informative – loved the history, will be going on to the Rainbow Heritage website. I was especially pleased with the history – born in 1950, I am aware of some of this, but many of my colleagues are not. Most interesting and definitely of use. Very well delivered and very interesting. Thank you – excellent training. Very informative and interesting. Excellent – I am pleased that all Connexions staff who come into contact with young people have to attend this session. All done in a very interesting and interactive way. Good way to get involved and to hear and see other people’s views and comments. Enjoyed, but will also be useful for my work with young people – thank you.

Let’s Build 2009Excellent course, well delivered. Fantastic training day, extremely interesting. Will be ensuring all staff attend asap. Great style of presentation, good at bringing group back into focus, extremely helpful. I thought the training was imaginative and interesting and enjoyed listening to other’s views and joining in the interaction. I just wish more people would attend the course and further their knowledge as it may

change certain attitudes for the better. Really enjoyed the training. Very interesting to hear David’s own points e.g. “natural” is not necessarily good + the brief history with laws etc. Especially interested in the different interpretations of religious texts. Handouts and contacts very useful – thank you! Very well delivered- thank you. Excellent. This training should be made mandatory.

From someone who could not attend the training for Let’s Build.I’m really sorry to miss the training as a colleague said that the trainer and the training were the best he had ever experienced.
