HELP!

Session Closings

Go Out With

A Bang!

I’m an Accidental Trainer! What should I do, now?

Page 2: Training Design: Accidental Trainer Session Closings

Learners need an intentional CLOSING to encapsulate their

learning.

This series was created

with you in mind.

Key skills you’ll use to become a success!

The CLOSING should be a planned part of the agenda and session content.

Page 4: Training Design: Accidental Trainer Session Closings

Don’t rush through it. Have the time to complete the planned activity.

Make time for the learners to read through their notes and materials. Doing this allows them to determine whether they have any further questions.

Page 6: Training Design: Accidental Trainer Session Closings

At the start of the session, ask learners to record their learning in the form of review questions & answers on Post-It notes. At designated time, guide learners through the review.

Whether at the end of each session day or the end of the entire session, have time planned to close out the “Parking Lot”.

Parking Lot

At the start of the session, provide Post-It notes and designate a “Parking Lot” area for the learners to use to post questions that might be off topic or not timely, concerns, and follow-up requests.

Clarify next steps and how to followup with learners. Share relevant contact info.

Plan time for questions—even if you’ve done so throughout the session. Listen for what might not be stated and address it anyway.

Ask for verbal feedback. Be open to all they have to share..

What would you like me to know?

What one thing will you

apply right away?

What would you suggest I change the

next time I do this session?

How was the pacing of the session? What about my facilitation

style worked –or- didn’t work for you?

Learning is hard work! Thank and congratulate the learners on completing the work.
