DRILLING & WELL SERVICE TRAINING ADVANCE COURSE LEVEL 1DURATION: 4 MONTHS

IADC DRILLING AND WELL SERVICE TECHNOLOGY ADVANCED LEVEL 2

IWCF CERTIFICATION: DRILLING AND WELL SERVICE

IWCF certification is required for all drilling and well service personnel working at managerial levels. The qualification must be updated every two years. Candidates must pass two theory tests and a practical simulator exercise. There are several options for updating this qualification:Experienced personnel can undergo preliminary tests, a practical exam and a theory exam as part of a two-day course.Less experienced employees can take an extended course, which is between three and five days of teaching, followed by one day for the practical and theory exams.

At the modular technical college, students complete one discipline at a time, attending for two weeks during a six-week period, i.e. the same rotation as in the drilling industry, to ensure that training can be easily combined with a full-time offshore job.

GODAC has concentrated on procuring the best instructors. In our experience, intern-based training is difficult to combine with a full-time job and family, and many people end up dropping out. Some kind of formal training is vital for a career in the drilling or well service industry. This requirement has been formalized by the OLF and the Norwegian Shipowners Association, and is a prerequisite for promotion to all positions above Derrickman.

Many people also find that studying at a technical college is the decisive factor in obtaining a permanent offshore job - the goal of the majority of students who complete the Basic Course in Drilling and Well Service Technology.
