TRANSCRIPT
As company owners and managerssince we first opened our doors, wehave been driven to deliver the verybest service to our customers.
Since that first day most, if not all ofus, have also struggled with the ques-tion of how to efficiently train ourteam members. After all, our teammembers are the ones on the frontlines of our companies and deliver vitalservices to our customers.
The impression your customers haveof your company is a direct reflectionof how well they interact with yourteam members. This is regardless ofwhether these are sales, customer serv-ice or technical team members.
As we move forward into 2020 andbeyond, with customers becomingmore demanding, competition increas-ing and technology advancing, a focuson training has become even more im-portant than ever.
Over the course of the past 5 yearsESA’s National Training Schools (NTS)has updated its entire catalog of 92Training and CEU courses. Additionallyall of these courses are now availableonline.
In ESA of Missouri’s contract negoti-ation with ESA for 2020 and beyond,we are able to offer our members all ofthese courses at discounted prices rang-ing from 25%-30% below non-memberpricing. Our members will now havethe ability to develop effective and
affordable team building training pro-grams.
One of the most significant newtraining initiatives is “Training asa Service”. This is a 2 phase approach totechnician training, beginning with on-boarding a new hire with minimalindustry experience. Then, continuingon with career development trainingfor the experienced technician that isready to take on greater responsibili-ties.
The first phase, System Technician,is a 60-70 Curriculum hour, 6 monthtraining plan that brings your newtechnician into your office 4 hours perweek for online training. The balance ofeach week is then spent in the field ,being trained by your team. At the con-clusion of 6 months your new techni-cian will have completed, among othercourses, CAT Level 1, Customer Service,Math Refresher, OSHA 10, Communica-tion Skills and 6 months of OJT withyour technical team.
Phase 2, System Specialist is a 60-70curriculum hour, 6-18 month trainingplan. This is a highly customizable planthat can be designed to meet the careergoals of the individual technician. Theonline training may include AdvancedIntrusion, Fire Alarms, Access, Video,Codes and Standards, Consumer Serv-ice, Time Management and much more.
As a manager you measure yourtrainees progress with assessment test-
ing provided by NTS and feedback fromyour OJT trainers.
This program is offered exclusivelyto ESA of Missouri only and will launchin the first quarter of 2020. With an-nual dues being only $125.00 it appearsthat ESA of Missouri membership is abargain!
To quote Richard Branson, “Trainpeople well enough so they can leave -treat them well enough so they don’twant to.”

As we close out another
year we start to receive our
renewal notifications for the
various associations our
companies are members of.
If you are like many it is
always a decision on which
associations provide a bene-
fit for your company.
Your local and state asso-
ciations are an important
part of our industry and
should be of great interest to
all. Without state and local
associations watching out
for your interests you are at
the mercy of any new law or
ordinance passed to govern
our industry.
Too often companies only
become involved when
something has negatively
impacted their ability to do
business. With strong local
and state associations there
is always someone watching
that has our collective inter-
ests at heart. The strength of
our associations as a whole
relies greatly on participa-
tion of as many of our indus-
try members as possible.
When looking at the
associations in our great
state it is not just a mone-
tary contribution we are
looking for. With participa-
tion at association meetings
members often discover that
other companies are dealing
with the same barriers and
frustrations on a daily basis.
The opportunity to share
ideas to resolve problems
you may not have thought
of could be priceless. Being
able to sit in a room with
other companies in a non
competitive environment is
not something that happens
often.
Taking advantage of
going to your association
meetings is great for net-
working. The relationships
you can build will benefit
you and your company’s
ability to move forward.

FROM THE VP...
STATE AND NATIONAL
REPRESENTATION
For nearly 20 years the
Electronic Security Associa-
tion of Missouri has
retained the services of
a Lobbyist in Jefferson City,
MO. The goal of this
“Watchdog Service” has
been to both observe and
direct Statewide Legislative
activities. Over this period of
time there have been a vari-
ety of proposed pieces of
Legislation in the Missouri
Legislature that would have
had a harmful impact on the
Electronic Security Industry
in this State.
At the direction of ESA of
Missouri our Lobbyist has
been able to direct or defeat
legislation that would have
harmed the Electronic Secu-
rity Industry in Missouri.
The National Electronic
Security Association has also
assisted ESA of Missouri in
its legislative efforts.SOME OF THE RECENT
EFFORTS INCLUDE:
1. Over the past 10 or so
years no less than 5 Electrical
Contractor Licensing Bills
have been filed with the Mis-
souri State Legislature by
either the IBEW or IECA.
These Bills, among other
things required 20,000
hours of OJT, Strict Educa-
tion Requirements, Inclusion
of All Electrical Trades, No
Grandfathering for Existing
Companies and a 3 Year Time
Frame for All Companies to
Comply. Our Lobbyist was
directed to either to defeat
these Bills or find a way to
exclude the Low Voltage
Industry from the Legisla-
tion. After several years of
our Lobbyist working in co-
operation with the cable and
audio-visual industry and
ESA, SB240 was filed in 2017.
This Bill included Language
that Specifically Excluded
the Low Voltage Industry
therefore ESA of Missouri
had no objection to this Bill.
SB240 was passed into Law
and was signed by the
Governor in August of 2017.2. In 2010 a Bill was intro-
duced in the Missouri State
Legislature that would have
Invalidated the Automatic
Renewal Provision of your
Monitoring Contract. Addi-
tionally, this Legislation
would have required that all
Monitoring Contracts be
resigned upon renewal, elec-
tronic signatures were not
allowed. The problem for Se-
curity Companies with
respect to this Legislation is
that upon the conclusion of
a Subscriber Contract you
would become Technically
Uninsured. As a Company
that means no hold harmless
or limited liability protection
regardless of fault. Again, we
called on the services of our
Lobbyist to deal with this
problem. We were successful
in defeating this Potentially
Devastating piece of Legisla-
tion.3. After 8 years we are con-
tinuing to work with Colum-
bia Missouri on a False
Alarm Ordinance. As is the
case with most municipali-
ties Columbia, MO is com-
mitted to continue
responding to End User
Alarm Systems. However
False Alarms are a growing
problem that must be dealt
with. Both the Police
Department and City Council
are committed to the devel-
opment of a Fair and
Enforceable Ordinance with
a goal of reducing False Po-
lice Dispatches. The latest
draft of the Ordinance has
the possibility of being
adopted by the City soon.
4.The Kansas City and St.
Louis Alarm Associations
worked on false alarm ordi-
nances that helped solve
problems that were positive
for consumers and protected
police response. St. Louis
which had ordinances for 30
years worked with that asso-
ciation and its lobbyist to im-
plement reasonable false
alarm fines, permit and fine
management system. The St.
Louis Alarm Companies and
Collection Company facili-
tate funding the St. Louis
City Police department. Also,
control and tracking activity
with user permits and super-
vision for abusers. This
helped prevent eventual
non-response to most
alarms. The Kansas City
Association also worked
with the Police departments
in the development of fine
systems and alarm schools.JOIN THE ESA OF MIS-

ket, is pleased to announce
the launch of its new web-
site showcasing its diverse
access and key control solu-
tions. The Memphis, TN-
based company was founded
in 2009 when it first began
designing and manufactur-
ing narcotics control cabi-
nets for the EMS market.
MedixSafe’s triple security-
