The Board of Directors
had a very active fall.
We’ve secured a new
lease for the TLTC,
established a new 3-year
contact with the Team-
sters (our maintenance
department), and secured
an agreement to continue
our trash service with
Waste Management for
2015. In addition, our
current security
contract runs out at the
end of 2014, so we have
been evaluating our exist-
ing service and sent out
an RFP to other providers
to ensure we are getting
the best service for our
needs. The Rules of
Conduct and ACC Rules
and Regulations have
also been reviewed and
are being updated for
2015.
I wanted to share that we
recently had a problem
with burglaries with the
community. Thanks to a
very observant neighbor,
the person was caught
and turned over to the
State Police. I want to
take a moment to say
thank you to this resident
and encourage all of you
to watch out for your
neighbors and report any
suspicious activity.
On behalf of the Board of
Directors, I would like to
thank all of our commit-
tee members, volunteers,
and employees for their
hard work and dedication
this year. You are the
glue that holds our
community together.
Happy Holidays!

Lake Preservation News
The Towamensing Trails Lake Preservation
committee recently stocked 200 smallmouth
bass on October 14th 2014. This was
accomplished through donations collected
from our community members and groups.
We would like to thank everyone who
donated the money needed for this event. It
is truly appreciated.
Volunteer Spotlight
I’m writing this to give our deepest and
heart felt thank you to Brian and Sue
Denham. They work tirelessly to host
TLTC events for our community. They
volunteer their time, their props and their
amazing imagination to bring fun things to
do in the trails throughout the year. They
do get help from community members to
set up and break down these events and for
that they are very appreciative.
We also have all the people that
volunteered for the community clean up
days this past summer and for that we
would like to simply say thank you for an
outstanding job!
Now we are asking you, as a community to
continue this Trails spirit and volunteer
your talent or time to make the Trails even
better. If you have an event idea, recipe,
news to share or even your opinion, please
contact the teepee or the publication
committee and we will direct you in the
direction you need to go.
Remember the Trails are only as GREAT
as WE make it!!! So think of how you can
improve our community and contact us!
We are looking forward to your input.
The ACC Committee has an opening for a new
committee member
The ACC Committee is responsible for the compliance and enforce-
ment of the rules and regulations within the Community as
outlined in each phase of the Protective Covenants and ACC rules and
regulations.
If you can read a blue print , know anything about building codes or
you are interested in learning please fill out a Committee Resume.
The CERT Committee is looking for New Members
CERT is a training program that prepares people to help themselves, their families and
their neighbors in the event of a disaster in their community. Through CERT, Property
Owners can learn about disaster preparedness and receive training in basic disaster
response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical
operations. With this training, volunteers can provide critical support by giving
immediate assistance to victims before emergency first responders arrive on scene.
If this sounds of interest to you please fill out a Committee Resume. You may pick up
a resume at the Teepee or visit www.towamenisng.com.

Equipment and major components (like
pool equipment) must be replaced from
time to time, regardless of whether we
plan for the expense. We prefer to plan
and set the funds aside now. Reserve
funds aren't for extra expense-they just
spread out expenses more evenly.
There are other important reasons we
put association monies into reserves
every month:
Reserve funds provide for major repairs
and replacements that we know will be
necessary at some point in time.
Although a roof may be replaced when
its 25 years old, every owner who has
lived around it should share in its
replacement costs.
Reserve funds minimize the need for
special assessments or borrowing. For
most association members, this is the
most important reason.
Reserve funds can enhance the resale
value of your home. Lenders and real
estate agents are aware of the ramifica-
tions for new buyers if the reserve
funds are inadequate. Pennsylvania
requires associations to disclose the
amounts in their reserve funds to pro-
spective buyers through the Resale.
The American Institute of certified
Public Accountants (AICPA) requires
the community association to disclose
its reserve funds in its financial
statements.
Pumping your septic tank is probably the
single most important thing you can do to
protect your system. If the build up of solids
in the tank becomes too high and the solids
move to the drain field, this could clog and
strain the system to the point where a new
drain field will be needed.
So please remember to pump your system
regularly.
How often your tank needs to be pumped
depends on the tank size, the number of
people living in the home, and the habits of
that particular household.
(Please see graph).
When it’s time to pump, be sure to hire a
licensed contractor. He or she will have the
appropriate equipment and will dispose of
the sludge at an approved treatment site.
You can find listing for licensed haulers in
the Yellow Pages or online.

level of the chemical serotonin in the brain.
SAD is diagnosed more often in women
than men and can perhaps be hereditary.
Seeking a doctors treatment is always rec-
ommended however lifestyle and home
remedies may help.
So don’t fret if you think you might suffer
from SAD … there are things you can do
that may help you get through the long win-
ter months in the Trails. Make your home
sunnier and brighter by opening all blinds
and trim any trees and bushes that might
block windows or skylights. During the
daylight hours sit as close as possible to
windows while at work or at home when
Autumn brings with it a brisk breeze, the
smell of hot cider, pumpkins, and an array
of glorious colors. But unfortunately for
some people the festive Fall season turns
eventually into winter depression or
“Seasonal Affective Disorder” also known
as SAD. People suffering with this disorder
can become depressed, moody and lack
energy during the winter months. They can
also experience appetite changes, oversleep-
ing and weight gain.
Researchers have found that the reduced
level of sunlight can disrupt a person’s in-
ternal clock and can lead to feelings of de-
pression and may cause a change in the
reading or watching TV so you may absorb
as much of the natural sunlight. Bundle up
and get outside as much as possible by tak-
ing a brisk walk or simply sitting on a bench
by the lake with a friend. Exercise or some
type of physical activity helps relieve stress
and anxiety both of which add to SAD
symptoms. Being more active, eating right
and social activity can always lift your
mood.
So although it’s cold outside, warm your
heart with friends and family and bring
sunshine into your life by getting involved
in various activities and enjoying our beauti-
ful community.

What you’ll need: 1. Green Felt 2. Glue (craft glue, or hot glue) 3. Yellow foam beads and/or
other assorted “ornaments”
Instructions: Roughly measure out a piece of green felt to see how tall you want your tree to be. You want the candy cane trunk to show :) Keep the felt folded and cut out a Christmas tree shape.
Now it’s time to decorate. Pull out the candy cane and glue on a star and some ornaments. You can use Elmer’s Glue-All or hot glue depending on ages (and speed you want to go!).
Just allow time for the glue to dry before inserting the candy cane again.

Elf on shelf
Hi boys and girls! I am Santa's helper Elf -Elfie. Very
soon my friends and I will be visiting your house to
help Santa get his Naughty and Nice list ready. We
are magic elves that watch and listen to everything
you do. Every night we go back to the North Pole to
let Santa know if you have been naughty or nice.
Please don't touch my friends and I, we will lose our
magical powers and have to go away for awhile.
Listen to your parents and teachers and follow the
rules so we can tell Santa lots of nice things about
you. Can't wait to come visit and watch as you get
ready for Christmas!

Boost your immune system, stay healthy, fight the pesky flu bug
and treat the symptoms if you do come down with something
with these home remedies.
Green tea is known to have many properties that can help keep
you in tip-top health – and therefore better prepared to ward off
cold and flu bugs. The jury is out on how many cups of tea are
optimal, but 2-3 per day are often recommended. If you do come
down with cold or flu symptoms (or feel them coming on),
consider 3-4 cups of green tea per day to expedite ridding your
body of those nasty bugs and give your body’s defenses an extra
jolt.
Ginger’s health benefits have long been touted. Steep several
slices of fresh ginger root in hot water and sip for an extra health
boost or to soothe a cough or scratchy throat.
Honey is known to bolster the immune system. A daily dose of
honey can help you to feel energetic and stay healthy. It also has
antibacterial and antimicrobial properties; if you do develop a
sore or scratchy throat, honey will soothe and help heal. Use it
in your tea, coffee, plain hot water or by itself. You can even
gargle with honey (and lemon) in salt water when the mixture is
at room temperature. (Do not give honey to children under 1
year of age.)
Lemons are loaded with vitamin C, which is known to support
the body’s natural defenses. Lemon (and lime) juice is reported
to decrease the strength of the cold and flu virus in the body and
reduce phlegm. Add lemon juice to your tea or make hot or cold
lemonade with honey to stay well, build resistance to cold and
flu, and speed up healing if you do succumb.
Garlic may be known to ward off vampires, but it can also ward
off colds and flu. Garlic contains the immune-boosting
compound allicin, also know to relieve cold and flu symptoms.
Chop or crush 1-2 gloves of fresh garlic and “steep” them in hot
water; then, drink it like a tea. This may also help others keep
their distance from you (unless they’re attracted to the smell of
garlic), preventing further spread of the virus (wink, wink).
Peppermint tea is laced with nutrients that help the body fight
off illness. It also can act as an expectorant, helping the body to
cough up mucous.
The truth is many of the old standard home remedies, when used
regularly and properly, can be your body’s best – and least
expensive – defense against colds and the flu, also helping to
minimize their impact if they do take hold.
