The Reduit of Mainz-Kastel

The word “reduit” has a latin origin and means isolated or withdrawn. In former times it was an impregnable fortress. The Reduit of Mainz-Kastel was built between 1830 and 1834 by the two engineers Franz Scholl and Christoph von Pittel. Today its inner courtyard is used for open air concerts and public viewing.

Maaraue at Mainz-KostheimThe Maaraue in Mainz-Kostheim is a peninsula where the Main meets the Rhine. It is a recreational park where you can find a camping ground and lots of space for having BBQ or just to relax.
