November 19, with a crowd funding website launch (called indi-egogo) and a Facebook page that was created to facilitate bettercommunications.

T e idea is to raise the popular, iconic ship out of the waterusing a barge and crane, then transport it to a safe spot forrepairs. Gary Ramsbottom, the owner and builder of the shipnamed Obsidian, encourages the Friends of Obsidian to donateto or spread the word about the crowd funding endeavour.

T e Christmas Bird Count is a citizen science projectwhere the information collected by volunteer participantsis used to assess population trends and distribution ofbirds. T e common raven is the most widespread specieson Canadian counts. T e Eurasian Collared Dove contin-ues to spread throughout Western Canada, including toKaslo. Some years, robins and ocks of winter nches willshow up in our area. A lot depends on the weather!
