India become the land of traditional sports like Kushti The Indian Wrestling, Vallamkali, Jallikattu and many more. India is also known for its diversified culture and traditions. One of the traditional sports in India is Mallakhamb also known as the pole dance of India, it is one of the very difficult sports in India. There are few famous villages sports are also very adventures sports in India. We are listing few most popular traditional sports in India.

Gilli Danda

Gilli-Danda is an amateur sport played in the rural areas and small towns all over India and Pakistan as well as Cambodia and Italy. The game is played with two sticks: a large one called a danda, which is used to hit a smaller one, the gilli.

•Standing in a small circle, the player balances the gilli on a stone in an inclined manner (somewhat like a see-saw) with one end of the gilli touching the ground while the other end is in the air. •There is no official maximum number of players or teams. Gilli-danda can be played where each individual plays for themselves, or between two teams.

Rules•"Gilli Danda" is played with two pieces of equipment - a danda, being a long wooden stick, and a gilli, a small oval-shaped piece of wood.

VariationsAs an amateur youth sport, gilli-danda has many regional variations. In some versions, the number of points a striker scores depends on the distance the gilli falls from the striking point. The distance is measured in terms of the length of the danda, or in some cases the length of the gilli.

Introduction

• Kabaddi is a wrestling sport from India.• It is a recreational form of combat training.• The word Kabaddi is derived from a Tamil word

meaning "holding of hand", which is indeed the crucial aspect of play. It is the national game of Bangladesh, and the state game of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh in India.

• India has taken part in four Asian Games in kabaddi, and won gold in all of them.

Rules• Two teams occupy opposite halves of a small

swimming pool or field and take turns sending a "raider" into the other half, to win points by tackling members of the opposing team; then the raider tries to return to his own half.

• The raider must not cross the lobby unless he touches any of his opponents. If he does so then he will be declared as "out".

• The game is played with 20-minute halves and a five-minute halftime break during which the teams exchange sides.

• The raider is sent off the field if:• the raider crosses a boundary line.• a part of the raider's body touches the ground

outside the boundary (except during a struggle with an opposing team member).

• Each time when a player is "out", the opposing team earns a point. A team scores a bonus of two points, called a "lona", if the entire opposing team is declared "out". At the end of the game, the team with the most points wins.

Kabaddi World Cup Men World Cup

• The Kabaddi World Cup was first played in 2004 and then in 2007 and 2010.

• So far India is the unbeaten champion in Kabaddi World Cup.

• Pakistan and Iran are the next most successful nations, with the former being runners-up thrice and the latter twice.

Women World Cup

• The Women's Kabaddi World Cup was first played in 2012 in Patna, Bihar, India.

• India won the championship defeating Iran in the finals.

• India retained the title in 2013 by defeating the debutants New Zealand in the finals.

Kite flying is one of the most popular sports and festival in India.People enjoy kite flying mainly on independence day. Kite Festival in India is popular the worldwide and celebrated with

great fun and fervor. Watching the colorful sky during the kite festival is indeed a feast to the

eyes. Kite flying is an inexpensive game and can be enjoyed alone or with number of people.

Kite is basically made of paper, Kites usually come in various shapes and sizes and framed by a thin bamboo stick. Kites are attached to a thread rolled in a pinball and flown against the direction of the wind. Kite flying is lot of fun but the real excitement lies in cutting in each other's kites. Pittu Garam (Seven Stones)traditional South Asian game played between two teams. The game requires a tennis ball and set of seven stones which can be stacked up to form a small tower. The aim of the game is to be able to break the tower and then rebuild it before getting hit by one of the opponent.

Each player gets three tries for attempting to break the tower.

If a team is successful in getting a pittu, the player which broke the tower gets an additional three tries.

If a player successfully breaks the tower but a player from the opposite team catches the ball before it hits the ground, then the attacking player is deprived of his remaining tries.

When a player from defending team picks up a tennis ball they may not move from that position till they have

thrown the ball away.
