Week Two:Profections and Solar Returns

Profections

• Moves One sign/house per year (easiest to use with whole sign houses)

• Ruler of the profected Ascendant is Lord of the Year (LOY)

• That planet is featured in the Solar Return and Natal

• Any planets in the profected sign are also activated.

Assignment

• Draw up Profections and Solar Returns for some of the main events of your life

• Also draw up at least 2 or 3 current years -prior, current and next (this is what I do inclient readings.)

• You can add profections to the solar returns you have already done.

Interpreting Profections

• Primarily used for determining Lord of the Year (LOY)

• Typically the LOY is the ruler of the sign the Ascendant has moved to.

• Also take into account any planets in the Profected sign of the year in the natal - that sign and house is activated in the natal.

• Difference of opinion on importance of house topic of natal.

Evaluating the LOY

• Primary is the location, condition and aspects of the LOY in the natal.

• Also consider location, condition etc of LOY in Solar Return.

• Worth exploring noting the sign and dignity of the LOY in the Profected chart itself.

• Planets in profected sign in the natal or SR are also worth noting.

Profection and Solar Return

• First evaluate Solar Return (SR) as stand-alone chart

• then consider SR in relation to natal• give special attention to location of the

Profected sign of year, and the profected LOY in the SR.

• As always, compare to the natal promise to see how the year plays out.

Profections and Transits

• Note all of the following– transits to LOY in natal or SR– transits of LOY to natal and to SR– transits through the profected sign of the year– retrogrades and stations by LOY– If Sun or Moon is LOY, the full and new moons can

be important, and eclipses are especially important. Note where lunations occur that tightly trigger natal or SR planets or angles, especially hard aspects (conjunction, square, opposition).

Profecting Entire Chart

• Profecting houses and planets other than Ascendant has precedence in Valens.
