TraditIon!Celebrating 40 years of Musicals at ONHS
Director’s NotesWelcome to the 2013 Oshkosh North Musical – Fiddler on the Roof!
When Oshkosh North first opened in 1972 the first musical the North choirs and their director Fred Leist performed was Fiddler on the Roof.Forty years later we bring the show to you again – this time not in the North auditorium but on the stage of the historic Grand Opera House. Musicals at North are full of traditions, and as a North graduate myself, it is a joy to watch those traditions come to life again this year.
Set in a fictional village of Anatevka in 1905 Imperial Russia, Fiddler isbased on the stories of Sholem Aleichem called Tevye and his Daughters. We focus on Tevye, a man struggling with an ever-changing world, his faith, and his love for his daughters. I think the idea of the “fiddler” is a metaphor for survival. While things change and people face hardships and uncertainty, we can still find joy in our traditions.
Fiddler is a classic musical that I believe tells universal tales. We all can relate to the relationship between parents and children, the idea of hope through hard times, and the changing of customs.
This production would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of all of the students involved. Thank you for inspiring me from day one with your robust singing and energy in recreating a tale that many know so well. I must also thank the team of people who have helped support the show: Anna Allen for her recreation of this infamous choreography, Jim Dorschner for stepping up and conducting our pit orchestra, Yukiko Grine for playing our fiddle parts, Tom Hanson and the Grand Opera House crew, and Jackie Schleicher and the ONHS faculty and staff. Thank you to our music parents, specifically Don and Beth Pachniak for their attention to detail with our set and props, Barb Benish for her work on the program, Tim Phillips and Daryl Duchatschek for their time on sound and lights, and the ONHS Music Parents Association for all of the volunteers back stage and throughout the rehearsal process. To Briar, Kathleen, Aunt Lynn, Mom, Dad, and Kris, I again could not have done this show without your help. Thank you.
Enjoy the show! Thank you for helping us keep “Tradition” alive! L’Chaim!

Mazel tov!Congratulations Cast and Crew...
A special message for my darling daughter...Maybe I don't know that much, but I know this much is true; I was blessed because I was loved by you...You were my strength when I was weak. You were my voice when I couldn't speak. You were my eyes when I couldn't see. You saw the best there was in me. Lifted me up when I couldn't reach; you gave me faith 'cuz you believed. I'm everything I am because you loved me!

Oshkosh North High School
Music Parents Association
American philsopher William James may have said that line. But now you have a chance to live it and make a difference in the lives of the 250-plus students at Oshkosh North High School currently taking band, chorus or orchestra.
How? By supporting our non-fundraiser fundraiser. Parents who attended the Sept. 20, 2012 Oshkosh North Music Parents Association meeting unanimously agreed to continue holding a non-fundraiser fundraiser. You don’t have to buy anything. Just give what you can, knowing your donation will go toward fulfilling some of the following “Wish Lists” of the band, chorus and orchestra staff.
The 2012-13 Wish List includes:•$1,200 in music scholarships awarded to students to take private music lessons
•Funding clinicians to work with the band, choir and orchestra students•Need-based financial aid to help students offset cost of band, choir and
orchestra field trips • Scholarships for summer music camp
•And more
