PAKISTAN-BELGIUMBiLATERAL TRAdE & POTENTiALGSP Plus status to Pakistan: Pakistan is a beneficiary of the GSP Plus Scheme of the EU, whereby 66% of exportable products can enter the Euro market at zero duty. Resultantly, bilateral trade between Pakistan and Belgium has increased by 38.1%
Exports: Pakistan’s main exports in terms of goods to Belgium include home textiles, cotton, knitted and non-knitted garments, rice, tobacco, articles of leather, footwear, sports goodsand surgical instruments.
There is considerable potential of exports to Belgium in sectors like rice, seafood, fruits & vegetables, plastics, footwear, sports goods, leather etc.

Imports: Major imports from Belgium include pharmaceuticals, machinery, mineral fuels, iron and steel, plastics, precision instruments, lead, electrical machinery and organic chemicals.
There is considerable potential of imports from Belgium in sectors like dairy produce, electrical machinery, plastics, mineral fuels, chemicals, rubber, paper and paperboard etc.

Investment Policy 2013 ensures uniform treatment to local and foreign investments. Up to 100% foreign ownership allowed except in specific sectors including airline, banking, agriculture and media. Foreign Investor is allowed to hold 60% stake in agriculture projects. 100% repatriation of investment; profits and dividends are allowed.
Foreign Companies are allowed to use borrowing facilities both from local and foreign banks. Foreign companies are also allowed to establish their liaison offices / branches.

Foreign investment is fully protected by Acts of Parliament. Reciprocal protection & promotion of investment through Bilateral Investment Treaty signed between Pakistan and Belgo-Luxembourg Economic Union.
Special Economic Zones (SEZs) SEZ Act 2012 provides for the establishment of SEZ anywhere in the country with minimum 50 acres of land; 70% area is to be used for processing while remaining 30% as non-processing area (hospitals, residence, vocational training institutes, etc.)

One time exemption from all custom duties and taxes on imports of plant and machinery into the SEZ for installation therein. Exemption from all taxes on income for a period of ten years to units starting production by 30 June 2020 and five years for those doing so after 30th June 2020. Gas, electricity and other utilities will be provided at the zero-point of the Zones Captive power generation permissible to Developers of the Zones Facilitation Services.
