Problem with Current Email Infrastructure

1. When we send Emails to others – we really don’t know

- If our Email is going to SPAM folder or INBOX

- If other person has opened our Email or not(and If opened our email, then when it was opened)

- If other person has clicked the links which we have sent in Email or not.

2. We get Lots of Unwanted Emails(SPAM) in our INBOX & that eats up lots of our time(and that means money too!!!) to read those Emails or even delete them.

Email is heavily used worldwide for communication channel. However, because of 2 problems mentioned in earlier slides – Current State of Email is: It is a kind of semi-broken communication system 1. If perfect tracking of Emails can be achieved then - “Confirmation call or SMS – if other person got the email” can be avoided or “No one can say that I have not got or read your email even if they have received it and read it”

2. If SPAM(unwanted Emails) can be reduced by way of imposing payment based system, then -

Email can become 100% perfect & reliable communication system

Research Plans• Study of Existing Email related Protocols like SMTP, POP,IMAP etc.• Study of Different Email Tracking Techniques

• New Ideas/Suggestions/Modifications/Implementation in current Email related Protocols for Tracking Purpose

• Study of SPAM detection techniques & its problems/solutions

• Payment based approach for Email delivery

• New Protocol development for Payment based delivery (Example: implementation for Lightweight Currency Protocol – some research has been done in 2004 for it)

• Testing & deployment of modified Email protocols for tracking & newly developed protocol for Payment based delivery
