Track Changes in Microsoft Word 2007
Tracking changes is a useful tool when multiple people are working together on a file or peer
editing is wanting to be used in a document. This function shows any changes in the document from the
time that the function is turned on until it is once again turned off.
How to use track changes
1) Select the review tab
2) Select Track Changes – Now all changes to the document will be tracked.
3) Edit, add, modify, and remove text from the file as you would normally go about editing a file.
• Additions to the original text will apear as dark blue with a line located to the
left as shown here.
• Subtractions from the original text wil apear as a light gray with a line located to
the left as shown here
4) Add Comments – This is done by selecting the text that you want to add the comment to then
clicking the New Comment button which will automatically pop up a bubble and put your cursor
inside the popup bubble where a coment can be written. This comment buble will be
connectedto the text that was highlighted with a blue dotted line and the highlighted text will
now be highlighted with a light blue.
Accepting or Rejecting Changes
Accepting or rejecting changes can be done by clicking the accept or reject changes button in
the review bar.
Conclussion:
This tool in Microsoft Word is extremly useful when working on group projects so that changes in the
document can be easily noticed in the document, and changes can be agreed upon. The use of
comments with the additon and subtraction tracking method allows for the user to be able to easily
identify desired changes in a document and allow for easier discussion when multiple people are
working together on a document.
