ABOUT MRS. CORONA
! I am originally from Michigan and spent my first 18 years there before moving to California. I a<ended San Francisco State University and received my undergraduate degree in English Literature. I spent the next 18 years in the California Bay Area before moving to Cary, North Carolina.
! This is my 11th year teaching for Wake County Public Schools and my 3rd year at Carpenter.
! I have a great husband and am the proud mom of two UNC undergraduates.
! Interests: Travel, Reading, Cooking and EaPng, Bicycling, Games and Puzzles

FIELD TRIPS Date Location Fall NC Museum of History Winter Science is Fun – In School Field Trip Spring Laurel Hills Park
Please renew your volunteer information in the media center during school hours. Parents must be registered volunteers in order to be chaperones on field trips.
READ TO ACHIEVE If your child does not pass the BOG (Beginning of
Grade) Test and is not currently reading on Grade level based on MClass TRC (Text Reading Comprehension) your child will be idenPfied as a Read to Achieve Student. Your child will receive addiPonal reading support throughout the year to help them meet 3rd grade reading proficiency.
Their progress will be monitored by MClass data and their performance on standards based reading passages. These passages will become part of their reading porjolio.
Read to Achieve is a part of the Excellent Public Schools Act which became law in 2012 . The goal of the law is for every child to read at or above grade level by the end of 3rd grade.

Third Grade Explorers The AIG teacher collaborates with 3rd grade teachers to provide a variety of in-‐class experiences for all students. The AIG teacher will provide a series of lessons on • CriPcal Thinking • MathemaPcs • English/Language Arts. Students who demonstrate high performance will parPcipate in small-‐group enrichment acPviPes with the AIG teacher during the school year.

Academically Gifted/Explorers. Your child will be tested for eligibility.
Conferences. Conferences are held twice a year.
Attendance. Please call the office if your child is absent.
Field Trips. We are still planning for field trips and do not have fixed dates.
Birthdays. Treats must be store bought and please be mindful of allergies.
Weekly Folders. Weekly folders contain school information and class work.
Classroom Work Folders. Folders are used to teach good organizational skills.
Homework. Students are given homework Monday - Thursday. It is to be kept in their homework folder.
Class Website. Please visit the site. There is a lot of information for you and your child.
Sign and Return Folders. Folders contain classroom assessments. The entire packet is to be returned once you have reviewed it.
Communication. Email works best for me. I check before and after school.
Newsletters. Newsletters will be sent home and posted on the website.
