    The historical past of Penamacor county can be read throughits monuments. No one knows for sure when PenamacorCastle was built but was considered one of the mostimportant strongholds of Beira. In 1973 the ruins wereconsidered National Heritage Monument.

    This village received, in 1938, the title of The

    most Portuguese village in Portugal.The medieval castle was partially destroyed duean accidental explosion on a Christmas Eve, in19th century. Today two towers remain thePeo (Pawn) tower and the Donjon tower.Inside the wall the Romanic chapel of S. Miguel
