STEWARD-SHIP NEWS As the year winds down and we get busy with holiday parties and planning, please

remember Tualatin Presbyterian Church in your End of Year gift planning! TPC is an amazing place that recharges batteries and lifts the soul! For many of us, TPC becomes a second home where we gather to help those in need as well as each other. In the coming year, we plan to expand our Mission programs by caring for the homeless, and Family Ministries will continue its outreach to our young community members. Last year TPC connected with 105 youth in our com-munity!

Please consider a cash donation or a direct dona-tion of stock which can be a charitable tax deduc-tion. To give on line, go to the church website, www.tpcspirit.org, and click on Giving. Please contact Mike Shiffer, [email protected], with any questions.

We wish you a very holy, happy holiday season, Your Stewardship Committee Maureen Wolf, Stewardship Elder

CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE It’s time once again for TPC’s annual Christmas Giving Tree. Tigard Tualatin School District has given us 8 families (30 children) who could use a little support this Christmas. There are three ways to help.

1) Buy a gift for a child. Take a paper ornament off the Giving Tree. The colored paper tells you all you need to buy the gift. When you return your wrapped gift (by Sunday, December 17th) please tape the colored ornament to the gift as a label so it can be given to the correct child.

2) Monetary donation towards a Christmas meal. Each family will get a Winco Gift Card to pur-chase items for a holiday meal. Please write “Food Basket” on your check or envelope.

3) Sign up to be a Delivery Santa. Gifts are deliv-ered between December 17th and 22nd. Please see me to sign up.

Thanks for helping these kids have a joyous Christmas in Jesus’ name.

AFRICAN EYES SPECIAL OFFERING Dr. Craig Bowen and his students from Pacific University’s College of Optometry are heading

back to Tanzania over the holidays. They need our support. A special offering will be collected dur-ing worship on Sunday, December 17th, or you can donate online through the TPC website. HOLIDAY MEMORIALS Contribute in honor or in memory of a loved one this season by filling out an insert in the worship bulletin on a Sunday morning in December. These loving memorials will be printed in the Christmas Eve and News Years Eve bulletins. Memorials will support Canine Companions, My Father’s Heart supporting the homeless in Washington and Clackamas Counties, and the Tualatin Food Pantry

WHAT’S GONE ON... TUESDAY’S TREASURES - November 21 As we continue "On the Road with the Bible", Tamir (a.k.a. Mary Shiffer) shared the story of the Israel-ites' journey to the Promised Land and Derrilyn served flatbread snack. Just as the Israelites were grate-ful for all God provided for them, we are thankful for all God provides for us: family, friends, health, Jesus, animals, Thanksgiving gatherings, time off work, God's presence and love, and pumpkin pie! Tuesday's Treasures is an outreach program serving adults with disabilities and their caregivers. This month we were pleased to welcome two new volunteers, Mark Maleta and Teresa O'Brian.

TPC BELL CHOIR The TPC Bell Choir enjoyed an educational and joy-filled day at the 1st Annual Handbell Festival spon-sored by Bells of the Cascades. Prior to the November 4 date we worked to learn several pieces of music which we then rang together with several other bell choirs in a 'massed ring.' Also at the event we had the chance to attend classes in a variety of bell techniques. The festival ended with a concert featuring over 80 bell ringers, led by Matthew Compton, composer and director of Bells of the Cascades.

FAMILY MINISTRIES HAPPENINGS

Sarah painted the Adult Edge Room (aka the Multi-Purpose room)

Sunday School Halloween Party Kids dressed up for church

Kids went to the Portland Art Museum with John Whitehurst and Patrick Ramos.

Adults went to the Portland Art Museum for Fellowship in Unusual places.

Ayers and Selby Families volunteered at the Food Pantry on Harvest Share.

WHAT’S ON THE WALLS? What in heaven's name are those things on the sanctuary walls? They're 3D icons of cherubs, a special variety of angels with six wings. They fly around the throne of God uttering praises to the almighty, according to John's vision in Revela-tion. Two cherubs carved from wood and gold-covered sat atop the ark of the covenant. Two cherubs with firey swords stood guard at the entrance to the garden of Eden after Adam and Eve were driven out.

This Advent Season, you may find that being surrounded by these firey beings is a bit unset-tling. Consider where they come from. They've seen the face of God. There is a reason that angels often start conversations with "Fear not!" Chris Robertson, Worship Elder

SPONSORED KIDS: mail from Estalin in Ecuador (09/06/17) Dear Friends at Tualatin Presbyterian Church, I greet you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Now, I want to tell you that on my vacation I went to Quito and had a good time with my brothers. We went fishing near Qui-tumbe. We also went swimming in the Peguche waterfall. In that place I found a little red fish.

I am very grateful for your help with the school supplies and I am happy about it. I have a dog as a pet and his name is Recs, but I would like to have a turtle. Also, I want to tell you that during the holidays I was helping my mom to clean the rooms and to make the beds.

On September 4 I went back to school. Monday we went to the opening of the whole school. On Tuesday we had classes and on Wednesday we went to do the cleaning of the school.

With this, I say goodbye in the name of the Fa-ther, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. May God take care of you. Please pray for my family, for my mother who is very sick, for my father who is working away, and for my studies.

I would like to ask you: How was your vacation time? What did you do? What's your job? Do you have children? What does your turtle like to eat? And your dog? What pet would you like to have? Estalin

SESSION HIGHLIGHTS November 21st Session Meeting

In its annual roll review, Session approved re-moval of inactive members and members who have moved away, leaving 303 active members on our church roll.

Updates to the Mission Elder Job Description were approved.

The issue of lighting in the parking lot was dis-cussed. The Building and Grounds Elder will follow up with specific recommendations if Session approval is needed to make decisions about improvements.

The annual Session Retreat was held at TPC in October instead of at Menucha due to forest fires. The consensus of Session members was that TPC was an efficient and effective venue, and plans to use TPC for the fall 2018 Session retreat.

The date of January 28, 2018 was set for the annual congregational meeting.

The next regular Session meeting will be Tuesday, January 23, 2018

The above information was compiled from meet-ing minutes. Complete copies of minutes and reports are available in the church office. Rick Crall, Clerk of Session OPPORTUNITIES… Tualatin Food Pantry needs CEREAL Next time you’re shopping, buy an extra box of Cheerios for the Food Pantry collection bins located next to the name tag ‘wall’ in the narthex.

The Pantry is now open Thursday evenings. Helping is easy and fun, and has an immediate impact on our community. Interested? Email Mike Shiffer at [email protected]. BOTTLE AND CAN FUND RAISER Tualatin Valley Preschool is collecting redeema-ble bottles and cans. Funds collected will help pay for curriculum enhancements and playground repairs.

Redeemable bottles and cans can be put in the Rubbermaid garbage container in the alcove out-side the back door of the sanctuary. The church does not need to be open to drop off bottles and cans. Available anytime 24/7. GREETERS AND BULLETIN PEOPLE There are sign-up sheets on the bulletin board in the narthex for Sunday morning greeters and bul-letin people. No pre preparation required; no long-term commitment. Pick a Sunday that fits your schedule. Show up about a half hour early. Greet people as they enter the church. Pass out bulle-tins. Help pass the offering plates. Bulletin people take portable mics to speakers during Joys and Concerns. Questions? Talk to Susan Springer in the church office.

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING PAUL AND LINDA FUKASAWA’S GARDEN

Linda and Paul would like to thank all the TPC members and friends for their support and for their purchases of garden produce. We set a goal of $2,800 for 2017 veggie sales and we exceeded that with a total of $3,300. Our great fall weath-er allowed us to sell produce through September and having pumpkins let us sell into October. With the growing success of TPC’s youth pro-grams, Sarah will now have a little extra to pay for items that are not covered in her budget. My guess is that next year she could use even more.

We get a lot of support and help from too many to thank all by name, but we will mention some

who are at the top of the list. Dan and Sue Ann Peters pay for the cost of materials used in growing the garden. We spent more in 2017 with the addition of the pumpkin patch. Their donation allows us to pass on 100% of the sales to the TPC youth.

We do not have enough garden space to grow pumpkins, so we are extremely fortunate to have a friend who let us grow the pumpkins on his farm. He supplied the ground and the irrigation for the pumpkin patch. His name is Bill Friesen, and he describes himself as a Mennonite drop out. He was willing to let us grow on his farm because the money generated goes to the TPC youth. It makes him feel good to know that the children are benefiting, they are the hope for our future.

Linda and I both need help at planting and harvest time. We have a couple of really good friends who don’t have knee and back problems who help us with the low and high jobs. Jennifer Leskovec and Undine Kao are our garden helpers who love working for the kids.

Al’s Garden Center and Greenhouse let us use greenhouse space to start our plants. We also receive dona-tions of plants and supplies from Al’s. They know it is going to the TPC youth.

Sam and Sun at the Charbonneau Market let us sell our veggies at their store when we have too much for TPC. This helped generate some extra sales that went into the $3,300 total.

Wayne Willis and Bud Bender grew Indian corn and mini pumpkins for our fall sale. Thank you to all who helped unload the veggies, set up tables, and sell and clean up each week. And thanks to all of you who attend church in the summer when there are so many other things to do.

Paul is giving free classes on productive organic vegetable gardening this year starting with the first class in January. There will be six monthly classes. The class will be limited to ten and if you sign up, you will be asked to share some of what you grow with the TPC sales for youth ministries next summer.
