Issue, Date Toys R Us is Back By Cara Soucie

Toys R Us Express in Northfield Mall opened on September 4. It is a smaller version of the Toys R Us in Orland Park. Toys R Us Express is located across from Bath & Body Works and they have the same hours as the mall. The mall closes at nine pm. I did some research by visiting the store. Just walking through it I found some cool toys. Here are some. SpongeBob Hangman, awesome. Who doesn't like SpongeBob? They have science labs (educational fun) such as Disgusting Lab and Mega Science lab. Mega Shooting Gallery would be fun for you boys. There is a good Wii collection and DS games: Carnival (DS) and Deal or No Deal (Wii). I saw a megacrayon bank. If you like big pens, then you'll love a mega pen with a furry top. This is a strange word but it sounds fun -Ouija. Strange,right? It glows in the dark and you can talk to spirits. There are foam Nerf Battle Sticks. That's what I want for Christmas. There’s Silly String in all different colors. How much you ask?$2.75. The new trend is silly bandz. Toys R Us Express has them. They are five dollars. Continued on p.2

Hurricane Earl throws the East Coast For a Whirl

Hurricane Earl was the 3rd hurricane of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season. It developed near the Cape Verde Islands making it a Cape Verde-type hurricane. This happened because of a broad tropical disturbance wave on August 25th. It slowly organized and became a tropical storm, later on that day. It maintained winds of 45 mph for 2 days, before strengthening into a 60 mph tropical storm. After another 12 hours the storm progressed into the season’s 3rd hurricane. On August 30th at 11:00 am AST Earl became a category 3 hurricane. Then later that day it intensified into a level 4 hurricane. In the Leeward Islands, Hurricane Earl caused damages estimating $150 million. This hurricane affected the states of North Carolina and Massachusetts; however, little damage resulted. Three deaths took place in the country as a result of rip currents (2 in NJ and 1 in MA).

Eiffel Tower Bomb Scare Rattles Residents By Mikayla Reynolds

  At 8:20 PM on a Tuesday in September there was a bomb threat at the Eiffel Tower. This threat led authorities to evacuate the area around the Eiffel Tower and St. Michel Metro Station which also had a bomb threat. It was reopened within 30 minutes. Later on this turned out to be a hoax. Some people think this is a retaliation for France just passing a law that any persons wearing veils can't wear them in public “for safety reasons," which mainly affects Muslim women. About 2,000 people were in the area of the Eiffel Tower. Briefly evacuated was nearby apartment buildings and businesses. "The police came by and said there was a problem and we had to evacuate the area quickly," said one person on the scene. The tower has more than 150 extinguishers; the top floor's hydrants get water from pressurized water tanks. The tower weighs 10,100 tons and is held together by 2.5 million rivets.

Bradley Knights Softball

The Bradley Knight’s Softball Team consisted of our amazing coaches, Coach Bright and Coach Duval. Our team captains were Haley Lutes, Olivia Anderson-Wegner, and Calynn LaGesse. The rest of the team consisted of 8th graders, Ashlin Peters, Brianna Farman, Ravin Kibbons, Ericka Lacy, Ashley Davis, Maggie Cyr, and Taylor Mezo. Seventh graders were Peyton McCarthy, Madison Bretveld, Hailey Scroggins, and Caitlyn Marzke. Sixth graders were Abbey Fiscus, Brianna Clingan, and Amber Gund. Our record was 10-11. When I asked some of the players and coaches what their favorite part of the season was, this is what they said. Coach Bright – “Well, we had a great group of girls this year. Seeing their progress from day 1 to the last inning of the last game was great. Towards the end of the season we started coming together as a team. Also hearing all the 8th grade post game speeches and joking with and picking on the 8th graders.” Coach Duval – “My favorite part about the season was when we beat Channahon.” Ashlin Peters – “Sharing all the memories with the team.” Olivia Anderson-Wegner – “My favorite part was all of our bus rides and when Coach made fun of my cookie speech.” Haley Lutes – “My favorite part was when we came together as a team win or lose. And knowing we played our best.” Calynn LaGesse – “The last few games, it made me feel like we were finally coming together more than a team but a family.” Peyton McCarthy – “Sharing all the laughs and memories. Also, having great coaches and a great team.” Brianna Farman- “My favorite part about the season was being with all my friends and the coaches and having a good time playing softball.”

FIBA World Basketball Tournament By Derek Paterson

The United States beat host country Turkey in the FIBA World Championship Gold Medal game. The tournament was held in Istanbul, Turkey and the Americans were a perfect 9-0. Kevin Durant, from the Oklahoma City Thunder, led the team with 28 points and averaged 22.8 points per game in the tournament. The Phoenix Suns’ Hedo Turkoglu had 16 points in the final game. The win was the United States’ first FIBA tournament gold medal since 1994. Chicago Bulls’ guard Derrick Rose averaged 7.2 points per game, and 3.2 assists per game in the tournament. Durant was named the tournament MVP. The tournament win assures a spot for the US in the 2012 Olympics tourney in London. Lithuania topped Serbia for the bronze medal, led by Linas Kleiva from the Toronto Raptors.

I asked Mrs. Anglin some questions to get to know her. Her birthday is in July and her favorite candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. She has two sisters and her husband was her high school sweetheart. Mrs. Anglin has three pets: Oreo and Lucas are her cats and Shelby is her dog. She has two kids. One girl, Lauren is 15 and one boy Jake is 12. Her favorite cartoon is Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends. She wanted to be an astronaut when she grew up. He fell at his condo in Birmingham, Alabama and died of blunt force trauma to his head. Also, Lady Gaga won the Music Video of the Year Award for “Bad Romance”. Toy Story 3 By Amanda Hawkinson Toy Story 3 is a story about a cowboy toy named Woody who accidentally ends up at daycare. When he tries to get back home, he gets caught by a girl and brought back to her house. There, he finds that his friends are in trouble and need help. After finding his way back to daycare, he makes a plan to bring his friends back. Finding that Buzz has been altered to Spanish mode, he tries to return him back to normal. On his way out, Woody runs into Lots-o, who smells like strawberries. Lots-o gets trapped in the dumpster and forces everyone to save him. At the end Wood and his friends begin a new life at a new home.

What is Wii Sports Resort? Wii Sports Resort is a game set at a tropical resort where you and up to 4 players can play 12 wildly fun sports such as sword play, wakeboarding, basketball, archery, and more. Now there are newer and cooler ways to play than the original Wii Sports.

In my opinion Wii Sports Resort is a great game to play with others, but let’s see what other people have to say.

Yolonda's Genius is a book about a young girl named Yolonda and her little brother, Andrew. Yolonda is smart, tough, and big for her age so no one messes with her. When they moved to Grand River Michigan Yolonda met a girl named Shirley. Shirley asked Yolonda one day, "Are you a genius?" Yolonda didn't know what to say. When Yolonda looked up the word she saw that it meant someone who arranges materials in a way never seen before. She instantly thinks of her brother. Andrew takes sounds and plays them on his harmonica. One day Andrew’s music stops playing and Yolonda can't figure out why. Do you think she can figure out why? Did you know Halloween first originated in Scotland? On October31, 1556 the Scottish people made All-Hallows-Day. That phrase is another meaning for Halloween. Did you know also that in some parts Scotland children still go guising? In this custom the child performs some kind of trick, sings a song, or tells a ghost story to earn their treats.
