According to Jean Sirois, general manager of RTP Color, the introduction of MPFP colour masterbatches not only extends RTP’s product lines for wire & cable, but also provides ‘much needed supplier diversity that processors in the industry are seeking’. Historically, fluoropolymers have been very difficult to modify, says Sirois. ‘Because of their corrosive nature, RTP has acquired dedicated manufacturing equipment to be used solely for the processing of MPFP products. The company says Pelestat 230 and Pelestat 300 provide good static dissipation to the host thermoplastic product. Pelestat 230 and Pelestat 300 are based on a polyole- fin resin with special polyether segments, which makes them extremely suitable for use in polypropylene and polyethylene films, the company says. Their compat- ibility results in good transparency and a smooth surface appearance to the finished product. Already widely used in Europe, Pelestat products have been shown to be effec- tive antistatic agents for use in pharmaceutical packaging, meeting European regulations for the migratory effect of the antistatic agent from the host film/packaging. Static can also create hazards including electrostatic discharge (ESD), which could initiate sparks within a flammable environment. Pelestat agents reduce static accumulation by maintaining a surface resistivity of 10 8 –10 12 : at a relatively low humidity level (12–15%) and ensure no release or migratory effect of the antistatic agent into the packaged content. PMB offers masterbatch solution to bacterial growth

PMB (Performance Masterbatches) has joined forces with fellow Welsh company

SteriTouch Ltd to develop an antimicrobial mas-terbatch for a manufacturer of plastic chairs. The product will be used in the ‘POP’ range of polypropylene chairs designed by UK polymer furniture manufacturer Origin Furniture for the contract, education and residential markets.
