Toyota of Santa Maria Donates to the

Hancock Promise Program: Toyota of

Santa Maria donated $5,000 from the

sale of a 2020 Toyota Supra Launch

Edition to support local students

through the Hancock Promise. Hancock

and Toyota of Santa Maria celebrated

the generous donation with a special

ceremony on Nov. 4.

group of new faculty members were

given a tour of the Public Safety

“I was very impressed by the fire and

Students Participate in Cal Poly Elevator

Pitch Competiton: Congratulations to

Hancock students Tyler Little and Lennette

Espinoza, who both participated in the Cal

Poly Center for Innovation and

Entrepreneurship's 10th annual Elevator

Pitch Competition. Little was one of the

competition's three winners, taking home

$1,000 for his 90-second pitch. Hancock is

proud of both of these amazing students for

representing AHC at the competition.

Hancock Partners with Cal Poly to

Improve Food Safety: Professors from Cal

Poly’s College of Agriculture Food and

Environmental Sciences have formed a

partnership with Hancock to train

disadvantaged local farmers in food safety

compliance. The project is funded by a

$214,000 grant from the U.S. Department of

Agriculture. Hancock Agriculture Coordinator

and Instructor Erin Krier will join Cal Poly

professors Amanda Lathrop and Karen

Cannon on this project, which will also give

Hancock students the opportunity to learn food safety skills, participate in farmer outreach, and

develop agriculture advocacy skills.

Bulldog Bound Kicks Off: The Office of

Student Activities and Outreach hosted the

first two Bulldog Bound events of the 2019-

2020 academic year on Oct. 18 and Nov. 15.

On both days, nearly 450 fifth-and-sixth grade

students spent a fun-filled two hours on

campus cycling through a variety of

workshops run by a selection of our academic

departments. A huge thank you to all those

who made the events a success! The next

Bulldog Bound will be held Dec. 6. Email

CTE Junior Day: A group of local high school students traveled to the Santa Maria campus

earlier this month to participate in CTE Junior Day. Students took a tour of the college and

learned more about Hancock’s culinary arts program.

Culinary Arts Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator Ron Lovell gave the students an up-

close look at the program. CTE Junior Day is coordinated by the Career Center and helps local

students explore their career interests through Hancock’s CTE programs.

Allan Hancock College students can now apply online for more than half a million dollars in scholarships provided through the Allan Hancock College Foundation. Last year, the foundation awarded 420 scholarships worth more than $500,000 to 370 students. Scholarships ranged from $500 to $10,000. To be eligible for most scholarships, students must complete six or more units at Hancock in both the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters, and have a cumulative 3.00 or higher grade point average. Students can complete the entire application process and view all scholarship opportunities online. The scholarship application is available at www.hancockcollege.edu/scholarships. The application period is open through February 20, 2019. ____________________________________________________________________________________

Fine Arts Faculty Exhibit: Hancock’s talented fine arts instructors are showcasing their own

creative work during the college’s Fine Arts Faculty Art Show at the Ann Foxworthy Gallery. The

show runs now through Dec. 12, and includes works in a variety of mediums such as sculpture,

painting, photography, and experimental video. On Nov. 13, the gallery hosted a reception and

an informal question-and-answer session with some of the exhibiting faculty members.

Warm Clothing Drive: The Alpha Gamma Sigma club is collecting warm clothing, socks,

blankets, and hygiene products for Santa Maria’s Longest Night Vigil. Donations can be dropped

off in bins located inside the Student Center. The donated items will be distributed to homeless

individuals in Santa Maria through local agencies and nonprofit organizations. The Longest Night

Vigil will take place on Dec. 21, at 5:30 p.m. at Santa Maria City Hall.

“Textural: An examination of the tactile and verse” is an exhibition curated by art professor

John Hood at The Arts Fund Community Gallery in Santa Barbara. “Textural” includes the works

of: Jean Pierre Hebert, Karl Kempton, William Loveless and Juan Manuel Perez Salazar. The

exhibition is underway and continues until Dec. 20.
