EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS: Be prepared for emergencies. You are reminded to listen for severe weather warnings on local radio or television. “Your Emergency Preparedness Guide” is available on the Municipal website. LANDFILL: Make sure you have received your new landfill pass that allows for 45 free bags – they were mailed in June. The pass will allow access to the landfill site and will count the number of bags that you use. Put your name and address on the card, so if it is lost it can be returned to you – TREAT THE NEW CARD LIKE YOU WOULD YOUR OTHER IMPORTANT CARDS – replacing a lost card will be at the user’s expense. If your card is in the ‘other vehicle’, left at home, or you have used up all 45 etc… you can purchase more at the municipal office or at the landfill site for $1.00 each. If you have seasonal rentals of your property, please contact the municipal office – temporary passes can be arranged along with the purchase of bag tags for your renters.

PLANNING:

Sky Solar Application: The proponent’s application has been approved and is in the development phase. This includes Renewable Energy Approvals (REA) and impact assessment. The REA process is comprehensive and will take approximately 18 months to complete. For more information Sky Solar will be hosting a public meeting in August or September 2017. ROAD DEPARTMENT: Contact: 705-382-3822 There will be significant ongoing road improvements on Midlothian and Rosskopf Roads. Regular culvert and gravel maintenance operations will be performed in several additional locations throughout the Township. Details about potential road closures or delays will be posted on the Municipal website. About your Property TAX: The Township is registered for TAX PAYMENTS with the following banks - if you wish to pay by Internet or telephone banking: Royal, Canada Trust/TD, Scotia, Montreal, CIBC, Credit Union Central and Tangerine. We are not registered with the banks for over the counter or bank machine payments. Please note a $25.00 charge will apply to items returned by the bank. Note: Please ensure that we have your proper mailing address and if you are on a rural route the address must include your civic address (911 #).

Council has deliberated the 2017 BUDGET resulting in an overall tax levy (budget) increase of 2.26%. There is a 3.33% increase in the overall residential tax rate. The effect on individual properties will vary depending on increases in assessment. The total budget is $3,195,203. Copies of the 2016 Financial Statements and details of the charts below are available at the Municipal Office at no cost to any ratepayer or resident of the Municipality and are posted on the web site.

Please note:

No daytime burning permitted between 10am to 6pm

from April 1st to October 31st.

At a minimum, are required to have garden hose

attached to a water source or 2 large pails of water,

shovels, and anything that can assist in containing or

extinguishing the fire should it spread from its origin.

No accelerants are permitted.

All fires must be under constant supervision and

control from time of lighting until it is totally

extinguished. Use plenty of water to extinguish the

fire.

If you have any questions with regards to fire safety or the fire rating, please do not hesitate to contact the

Fire Prevention Office at the above contact details.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Can I get a burn permit?

A. NO - We do not issue burn permits for domestic burning.

We issue a general contractor burn permit for land clearing for

new builds ONLY. This requires a fire safety inspection of

property before and while burning; there is a cost involved.

Q. Can I have a campfire while the fire rating is on HIGH?

A. YES – Follow the guidelines as set out in the explanation of

HIGH and notes below the explanations. All fires are to be fully

extinguished before leaving.

Q. Can I burn furniture, bed mattresses, and household rubbish?

A. NO – Do not burn anything that is environmentally

unfriendly. Untreated and natural materials only.

Q. Can I have a campfire when the rating is at EXTREME?

A. NO – No fires are permitted.

Q. When can I set fireworks?

A. ONLY - When the fire rating is LOW or MODERATE.

Read the manufacturers instruction prior setting fireworks.

Please be responsible when setting fireworks.Though they are

fun to watch, once in the air, they are unpredictable.

Q. Can I light and release Chinese lanterns?

A. NO – There are By-Laws in the municipalities of Burk’s

Falls, Ryerson and Armour that prohibits this action. Please visit

your local municipal office to obtain a copy of this By-Law.

Q. What size fire can I have?

A. The fire department would advise when at LOW or

MODERATE; no bigger than 6 feet wide 6 feet tall. If you

have a fire that is 3 feet in diameter, the flames will most likely

be 5-6 feet. When HIGH, follow the guideline as set out in the

explanations. Also, if windy, do not burn.

Always think safety before making a fire and before setting off fireworks.
