I hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving despite the early season snowstorm that has left
the town’s roads snarled. I know many people are unhappy with the current state of many
roads, but it is important to remember that this type of storm was a bit of an anomaly. As we
all know, it is fairly uncommon to have a foot of snow followed by a day or so of gray skies
and several days of below freezing temperatures. Our small public works crew of four peo-
ple worked diligently throughout the night during the storm to ensure that the town’s primary
arteries remained as passable as possible. We can all agree that we wish the roads were bet-
ter, but I’d ask you to join me in thanking our public works staff for their efforts. Each win-
ter, while most of us sit safely in our homes, our small crew puts in countless hours plowing
the roads through some of the worst of Colorado’s weather.
Snowstorm aside, what else has been happening in town?
The town has been actively planning for 2020. Some of the anticipated projects include:
• Completion of the town’s portion of the County Road 2 project, including the new round
-a-bout at the frontage road. We recognize that, much to everyone’s chagrin, this project
has dragged out for longer than expected, and we look forward to the finish line.
• Continued development in Silver Peaks, and some new development to the south of CR
2 (in Lochbuie town limits), including a new 7-11 store and approximately 180 homes.
• Updated water and wastewater rate studies. These studies will be thorough and consider
the near-, mid-, and long-term needs of both systems. Keep your eyes on this newsletter
and the town’s website for future details.
• Initial planning phase of improvements to Lake Henry Reservoir, including planning for
a significant town park. This project will take several years to complete.
• Planning and design for a new trail running below the powerlines from CR 37 to Mead-
ow Ridge Elementary School. Construction will occur in 2021 and 2022, and the costs
of construction will be covered, in part, by a significant grant from the Denver Regional
Council of Governments (DRCOG).
• Planning and design for improvements to the on- and off-ramps at I-76, including traffic
lights. These improvements will also likely occur in 2021 or 2022. Again, a substantial
portion of this project will be covered by a significant grant from
DRCOG.
• Elections! It is easy to overlook local elections; please don’t. Local elections matter. In
2020, the Mayor’s position and three Trustee positions will be on the ballot. If you are
interested in running, please watch this newsletter and the town website for details.
Needless to say, 2020 will be an extraordinarily busy year. On behalf of the town of
Lochbuie, I wish everyone a happy holiday season and a wonderful new year! Let’s make
2020 another great year for our small (but growing) town!

TIME FOR TOYS! - Santa Cops need your help! Christmas is just around the corner and Weld County “Santa Cops” are busy planning
the 2019 Holiday Toy Drive. The Lochbuie Police Department is now accepting
Donations of new, unwrapped toys (or cash) to distribute to children in need here in
our community. Please bring your generous donations to Lochbuie Town Hall Hall a
anytime M-F, 8:00-5:00. All gifts are greatly appreciated.
With cooler weather upon us, law enforcement would like to remind all residents that leaving your car running
unattended in the driveway or on the street is an invitation to car thieves.

VICTIM OF VEHICLE THEFT!
2019-2020 Snow Plowing Procedures*
The Town of Lochbuie Snow & Ice Operations Plan provides for the plowing of snow as follows:
PLOWING OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY ROUTES:
During light snowfalls of (2) two inches or less, spot treating will be provided on all designated routes and in certain
icy areas on non-designated streets. The latter are most often at controlled intersections or significant elevation
changes. If snowfall is predicted to exceed two inches, Town crews will plow and treat Priority 1 and Priority 2 routes
beginning when two inches of snow has accumulated. The Town uses de-icing materials and anti-icing techniques
including Ice-Slicer/Abrasives which substitute for salt and sand (The Town does not use Salt & Sand for treatment).
PLOWING OF NON-DESIGNATED ROUTES:
Under certain snowstorm conditions it may be necessary to plow all streets (one single pass down the middle of the
street) in the Town. Residential streets are not plowed or treated unless there is 4” or more accumulation of snow on
the roadway surface in a 24-hour period. Crews will attempt to plow residential streets as soon as possible however
this plowing may take up to 24 hours after accumulation has stopped. In some situations, it may be necessary for crews
to complete plowing of the non-designated (smaller) streets the following day.
Residents should recognize that when plowing residential streets, ONLY ONE PASS SHALL BE MADE DOWN
THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET PROVIDING A SINGLE TRAVEL LANE. This method will leave a windrow of
snow on either and/or both sides of the street including in front of each resident’s driveway. The Town may make
multiple trips down a street if snowfall conditions warrant. The Town will not clear snow from driveway openings on
any street.
***According to Town Code, citizens have 24 hours after a storm to shovel their walks; by waiting to clear sidewalks
until the storm is over and the streets have been plowed, the problem of having to repeatedly shovel walks is
minimized.
