Gawler FringeThe 2018 Gawler Fringe Event took place from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 February, with the theme of Live, Embrace, Enjoy Local.
With a huge, jam packed program of entertainment, an estimated crowd of 6000 people created a hive of activity in Walker Place across the weekend-long event.
The event program was made up of over 100 individuals with back to back performances by community groups, bands, duos and soloists covering a multitude of genres.
The Gawler Fringe highlights what Gawler does best; local musos and performers, a relaxed family-friendly environment, food and drinks from Gawler’s local businesses and service clubs, Kids Zone and activities, all mixed with a friendly small town vibe.
Reconciliation Action PlanEndorsed and launched in 2018, the Gawler Reconciliation Action Plan July 2018 – July 2020 is the first for Council. It represents a significant milestone in Gawler’s reconciliation journey.
The Gawler RAP outlines practical actions that Council and its partners will take to build strong relationships and enhanced respect with Aboriginal people from across the region.
The RAP, based on the three key areas of Relationships, Respect and Opportunities, ensures that staff, elected members, volunteers and members of the community are able to contribute to the reconciliation process.
Reconciliation Week in Gawler The Gawler Reconciliation Community Fun Day is supported by Council and organised by the Gawler Reconciliation Action Group. The event acknowledges National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) and the importance of working towards reconciliation within our community.
The Community Fun Day includes entertainment, food, interactive stalls, activities and fire pit. Well over 1000 people, and more than 600 local school students, attended the event in 2018.
Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP)The Town of Gawler along with the Barossa, Light Regional and Adelaide Plains Councils worked in collaboration to develop a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP).
The DAIP includes two main components:• The Barossa, Light and Lower North Regional
Disability Access and Inclusion Plan; and• The Town of Gawler Disability Access and Inclusion
Action Plan.
The Gawler Disability Access and Inclusion Action Plan provides a range of actions and deliverables to ensure that our community becomes more accessible and inclusive of people living with disability. The DAIP was adopted in May 2018.
