“What can I say after six wonderful years getting to know so many seniors from the community. It has truly been a blessing to be part of such a wonderful group of people. Senior Sneakers Trips

Trips for May & JuneMoth Ball Fleet TourTuesday, May 8, 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Learn about the history of the World War II moth ball fleet as we take a four-hour cruise around the famous ships. We will have lunch on board. Our tour departs from the Pittsburg marina. Cost: $93 resident; $112 non-resident. Price includes transportation, tour and lunch. Activity Level: 1-2

San Juan Bautista MissionTuesday, May 15, 10:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Our 90-minute tour takes us to the historical San Juan Bautista Mission, Plaza Hotel, Plaza Stable, Castro Breen Adobe and a State park. The tour is mostly walking with some stairs in the hotel to the second floor. Lunch will be at a Mexican restaurant, Jardines, prior to the tour. Cost: $50 resident; $60 non-resident. Price includes transportation, tour and lunch. Activity Level: 4

75th Anniversary Golden Gate Bay CruiseSunday, May 27, 10:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Join us for the festivities on board Delta Discovery Cruises for the 75th San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge Anniversary. A historian on board will discuss this historical landmark and we will see waterfront

activities including the Historical boat parade. Cruise is three hours and lunch will be provided on board. The boat will leave from the Richmond marina. Cost: $105 resident; $126 non-resident. Price includes transportation, tour and lunch. Activity Level: 1-2

Follow the Seagull San Francisco TourTuesday, June 5, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

San Francisco’s 49 Mile Scenic Drive opened in September, 1938, is well-known because of the California Gold Rush. It was designed to see the most important attractions and beauty of the city. We will visit landmarks such as: the Great Highway, S.F. Zoo, John Muir Drive, Lake Merced Drive, Sunset Blvd. and Golden Gate Park. The group will stop for lunch at Beach Chalet. Cost: $57 resident; $68 non-resident. Price includes transportation, tour and lunch. Activity Level: 2-3

Red Oak Victory Ship Tour and National Park Rosie the RiveterThursday, June 14, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Our one-hour tour begins aboard the Red Oak Victory, a ship that saw service in WWII, Korea and Vietnam Wars. We will be climbing up and down ladders, or you may stay in the holding area to watch a 40-minute video on the history of the ship. Lunch will

These duplicate games are sanctioned by the ACBL and are limited to players with less than 850 Master Points. Join a friendly and fun game with your favorite partner or come as a single. This is a specialized, senior self-defense training class incorporating the use of a walking cane. Class consists of 10-15 minutes of warm-up/lecture, and 45-50 minutes of training. For those who depend on the cane for vertical (standing) support, self-defense techniques include those that can be performed in a sitting position. Please bring your own cane and wear comfortable shoes (no open-toe shoes). Cost: $15 resident; $18 non-resident. No class on 5/28.

Make your own greeting cards in an easy, inexpensive and fun way through the rubber stamping technique with wonderful embellishments. These classes are for all levels of expertise. All tools and supplies, except double-sided tape, for three projects per each class will be provided. If you are unable to attend a class, the completed projects will be provided to you. Bring craft style double-sided tape or $6 to purchase tape from the instructor. $20 resident;

This is a dance fitness class for the non-dancer that provides a total body workout including strength, flexibility and endurance in a safely choreographed format suitable for seniors as well as those new or returning to a fitness program. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and to bring a floor mat. Hand held 2-4 pound weights are recommended but not required. Cost: $96 resident; $115 non-resident. Course will teach owners of digital point-focus shoot cameras how to use them and how to access their “hidden” features. Bring your camera to class. There will be lots of hands-on instruction so the features and use will be remembered easily. Cost: $40 resident; $48 non-resident.

This class provides an opportunity to speak Spanish using simple sentences. Emphasis on learning Spanish used in restaurants, shops and everyday life. Practice through pronunciation and reading short articles in Spanish. Cost: $40 resident; $48 non-resident. No class on 5/28.

Stretching is the process of elongating the muscles, tendons and ligaments that connect the muscles and bones of the body. As the body ages, these attachments tend to shorten, resulting in a predisposition to injury. Stretching is not only an important part of a physical fitness regimen but also of living a healthy life. The Danville Area Senior Hikes (DASH) is open to adults ages 55 and up. Most hikes are not strenuous, but gradients are involved due to the local terrain. Distances are usually 4-5 miles, and the pace is moderate. Trailheads are reached via carpools; passengers are asked to make a donation of 10 cents/mile to the driver. Hiking dates: 5/9, 5/23, 6/13, 6/27. Meets at 8:45 a.m. and returns about 1:00 p.m. Contact Senior Services at (925) 314-3490 or email [email protected] to join.
