Towersey Fringe What a Great Day – Thank You!

How lucky were we that the sunniest August Bank Holiday in living memory coincided with the third Towersey Fringe?! Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported this fantastic event. It was a wonderful day. There were brilliant images captured by the very talented Richard Duckham of families arriving by the car load, setting up their chairs or making camp around a table with hay bales, and just enjoying listening to the fantastic music, eating the delicious food, partaking in a tipple or two from the Fringe Bar, and perhaps having a massage or hair cut whilst at it! This was all while younger family members enjoyed the numerous children’s activities on offer. It was so lovely to see everybody having such a great time. In the evening, our Comedy Night was deemed the best yet. To our surprise we sold out a few days before and people were clamouring for tickets. Hearing so many people roaring with laughter and enjoying themselves so much, made us feel that all the hard work was worth it. Of course, as with everything in Towersey, none of this would be possible without the army of volunteers who worked tirelessly to create such a great event. Too numerous to list, we would like to send huge thanks to all those who helped in any way - setting up on Friday and Saturday, taking down on Monday, decorating, cutting fruit, working behind what must be the busiest bar ever, clearing away rubbish, cleaning the loos, providing us with scenery, sponsorship, hay bales etc etc. The list goes on and I just hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we all did. A few figures for you – over 2000 came through the gate (Sheila’s amazing Big Pink Ts certainly worked!) and over 3000 pints were pulled! And the best figure of all – this year we managed to raise just under £13,000 which will go to the Towersey Playing Fields charity fund for the rebuilding and development of the playing fields and clubhouse. We will be back next August Bank Holiday Sunday, 26th. See you then! Lucinda Masters, Towersey Fringe Committee

Towersey Playing Fields Update

Please join us at the Coffee Morning next Saturday, 7th October, to discuss ideas

Following the third Towersey Fringe event, the Towersey Playing Fields Committee (TPFC) are delighted to announce

that we are setting up our Playing Fields Regeneration Fund, with a fantastic donation of £13,000 raised by the Fringe

this year.

Over the three years since the Fringe started, the event has been establishing itself as fixture in the community diary,

growing in attendance, sponsorship and profitability, having raised a total of £19,000 to date. Year one (very wet), a

loss of £6 was made. Year two (started off wet, then cheered up) a profit of £6,000 was made. Year three (beautiful

weather) was this year - £13,000 profit.

£6,000 is being held in the Fringe accounts, to cover the upfront costs of next year’s event

The TPFC would like to thank the Fringe Committee for all their hard work in running such a great event.

With this donation the TPFC will be kicking off their fund-raising initiatives for the redevelopment of the playing fields.

As per the results of the Towersey Playing Fields Survey, we aim to demolish and rebuild a new clubhouse with changing

rooms, kitchen, bar and social spaces, upgrade the children’s playground, build an all-weather playing surface, put in

proper drainage, build a trim trail around the perimeter and if possible link the playing field directly to the Phoenix trail.

Clearly this is a big wish list and is wholly dependent on the successful completion of major funding applications from a

variety of sources, such as SODC, Sport England and the Lottery…. the list goes on. Our aim is to do this as one project

but it may have to be done in several phases depending on the success rate of funding applications.

For this project we are following the ‘Outline Plan of Work’ recommendations as set out by the Royal Institute of British

Architects. This is an eleven stage process, labelled A to L. So far, we have completed stages A & B which covers the

project Appraisal and Design Brief.

The next stage, C, covers the Concept. This is the exciting part on completion of which we will have designs with

drawings, artist’s impressions and possibly 3D visualisations.

If you would like to know more we will be at the next coffee morning, on 7th October, to answer any questions and

discuss ideas.
