Bologna Bologna is everything cultural and culinary that you think off when it comes to visiting northern Italy, except its charm is in remaining lesser known. Wedged in between the country’s more established and well-trodden cities of Venice, Milan and Florence, Italy’s seventh largest city – the historical capital and hearty food epicentre of the Emilia-Romagna region – is often bypassed. But it’s precisely this feeling of new discovery that captivates when you visit Bologna. Fusing haughty elegance with down-to-earth grit in one beautifully colonnaded medieval grid, Bologna is a city of two intriguing halves. One side is a hard-working, high-tech city located in the super-rich Po valley where suave opera-goers waltz out of regal theatres and into some of the nation's finest restaurants. The other is a bolshy, politically edgy city that hosts the world's oldest university and is famous for its graffiti-embellished piazzas filled with mildly inebriated students swapping Gothic fashion tips. Bologna’s nicknames sum it up beautifully: La Dotta, or the learned, for its university - Europe’s oldest - and the educated that flock there. La rossa, the red, for its beautiful UNESCO-protected terracotta-hued medieval buildings and porticoes, and progressive left-leaning society. La Grassa (the fat), a nod to its richly delicious standing as Italy’s gastronomic capital.

Day 1 – Benvenuti a Bologna Pizza dinner included

Depart from your local airport for the flight to Bologna (some UK departures may involve flights to alternative Italian airports with transfers to the city). Upon arrival meet your guide for the transfer from the airport, check into your hotel for the Visions Welcome and Safety briefing. Sample hotel – Hotel Astor – students accommodated in mutli-bedded rooms, teachers in twin rooms. Wi-fi internet access throughout the hotel

After checking-in, board the coach for the short journey to the home of Ducati motorcycles. The Ducati Museum Tour is divided into 3 different narrative paths – the history of Ducati series motorcycles and the socio-cultural context in which they are inserted; the parade of Ducati racing motorcycles that, with their victories, built the legend of the sport in world championships, the events, protagonists and techonological innovations that have made the history of the company. In some themed rooms, some real Ducati icons are displayed including the Cucciolo – the first motorbike assembled at Ducati and the 60 – which is widely recognised as the original Ducati. The significant models of the company follow chronologically to culminate in the mythical Desmo engine.

Following your guided museum tour, your students will get to take part in a specialised physics masterclass – the Fisica in Moto. Getting today's kids passionate about physics isn’t easy, but it becomes a much more achievable prospect when motorcycles are introduced into the equation. Ducati opened the Fisika in Moto laboratory in 2008 to get

students passionate about science and introduce them to some exciting real-world applications of physics. Unsurprisingly, physics plays a pivotal role in the development of motorcycles, from the bike’s shape and bodywork down to the engine. The Fisica in Moto lab boasts a trio of rooms that wonderfully illustrate this via a myriad of interactive, hands-on experiments and activities for students. The first room is focused on the engine, the second centered around physics and

motorcycle dynamics, and the final room—the MotoGP of Physics—exploring the role physics plays in racing (and motorcycles going fast in general). To convey these concepts, various workstations are setup around the lab demonstrating ideas like lateral acceleration or the difference between weight and mass. Though some of these activities are less relevant than others, the purpose of the entire lab is simply to get the next generation interested in science and to show students that working in physics more than just memorizing formulae and equations. Fisica in Moto is not a museum dedicated to physics, but rather an innovative physics laboratory. The educational proposal launched by the Fisica in Moto Laboratory requires the collaboration of institutions and the fundamental contribution of teachers before, during and after the visit. When your reservation is confirmed, you will be sent the specifically prepared educational material so that you can prepare your students for the visit. Fisica in Moto does not intend to replace teaching in classrooms. Instead, it complements and supports classroom education, making the physics principles and concepts more familiar and easier to understand. This evening, enjoy ten pin bowling and lasertag along with a pizza for dinner before returning to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.

Day 2– Meaningful, Memorable, Likable – We are not supercars. We are Lamborghini!

Only those who dare truly live – we ARE the competition - Ferrari Breakfast & dinner at hotel

After breakfast in your hotel, board your coach for the transfer to Lamborghini. The Lamborghini Museum in Sant’Agata Bolognese is an unmissable stop for fans of the historic Italian car manufacturer and is the result of Automobili Lamborghini’s desire to show to the world the Italian artisan tradition with innovation and technology that have always characterized the cars of the “Casa del Toro”. The story of Ferruccio Lamborghini began during Second World War when he was sent to the Greek island of Rhodes where he was assigned to the management and arrangement of the car fleet in use by the Italian army. Thanks to the experience gained in those years, once back home, Ferruccio began to build tractors using pieces of old tanks left in Italy by the allies. At the time Italy was a country with an economy mostly agricultural and the production of tractors was a great success, also because the Lamborghini tractors were at the same time functional, economic and durable. So Ferruccio soon had the chance to start a real tractor company, building his first factory in Cento, a town in the Ferrara area near his hometown.

In a short time, Ferruccio became quite wealthy to finally crown one of his greatest dreams: he loved super sports cars, so he decided to buy a Ferrari. From the beginning, however, Ferruccio did not feel really satisfied with the performance of his new car. As a mechanic and an industrialist, he considered Ferrari not up to his reputation, in particular in his view the clutch was not solid enough and broke too often. The legend tells that he decided to talk directly to Enzo Ferrari

and to point out his grievances. Enzo Ferrari, however, had a temperamental and touchy character and in front of the remonstrance of Ferruccio gave the famous answer remained in the annals of motoring: “Ferruccio, my cars work perfectly. The problem is YOU. You are not able to drive super-sports cars properly because you are used to driving only your tractors. You’d better keep on tractors and let me take care of the sports cars. ” For Ferruccio, Enzo Ferrari’s answer was a real challenge that he felt ready to collect: so he decided to start producing super-sports cars himself. Automobili Lamborghini was therefore founded in 1963 and was completed one year later on a site located in Sant’Agata Bolognese. From that moment Lamborghini started producing its super sports cars, which over the years will become the symbol of Design, Style and sports cars Made in Italy. The museum, founded in 2001, traces this history of success and speed and was conceived as a sort of trait d’union between the historical part of the assembly plant and the new buildings. After a break for lunch (not included), board your coach for the short transfer to Ferrari.

Recently completely renovated, the Museo Ferrari in Maranello anticipates the museum of the future: not just a collection of the past, but an extraordinary experience of the world of Ferrari, where the historical cars and history are the pretext to understand and get to know today’s models, Formula 1 content and technology and the outlook towards the future. This experience is offered via the cars, big screens and films, interactive tools such as the explanation of the Grand Prix pitwall and the possibility to turn into a Formula 1 driver on board of a semi-professional simulator. A vast range of publications and material from the present and the past tell the story of the Brand.

The Ferrari Museum offers its visitors an exclusive guided bus tour inside the Fiorano test-track proving grounds and Viale Enzo Ferrari, an avenue which runs through the cluster of new production and other buildings making up the Ferrari “Cittadella”. A Museum guide will introduce visitors to the various characteristics and features of the circuit where Ferrari has done its road and competition car testing since 1972, and to the Ferrari Factory where the Prancing Horse cars are built. Please note that guests may not leave the bus, take photographs or video footage during the tour. http://www.ferrari.com

The Red Campus Laboratory - Designed in collaboration with Shell, the Red Campus laboratory is an interactive space where students of junior-high and high schools have the opportunity to expand on some important concepts they have studied at school through simulations and games. The laboratory houses an Augmented Reality station, an innovative technology that, through its sophisticated software, virtually reconstructs any object whatsoever, like, for example, a Ferrari engine on a screen as if it were truly in our hands. Starting from the motions and rotations applied by the user to a simple base connected with the station, the software reproduces the movements of the object on the screen, and also ‘enhances’ the reality represented, expanding contents and information. The laboratory focuses on themes that make Ferrari’s production process a fascinating model of excellence: innovation, team and emotion.

Innovation Formula - Technological research, a constant feature and the track record underlying theme Performance: power development and control, consumption optimisation Lightness: the challenge of weight and emission reduction Aerodynamics: forces involved, the reduction of the drag and the consumption limitation Safety: electronics, stability and track control Team Formula – ‘Together’ to achieve success. Teamwork: preparation and collaboration, creativity and method Craft school: on-going training, professional growth, career development Great Place to Work: motivation, involvement and integration, services and work environment, professionals from all over the world Territoriality: social responsibility, internationality and Italian-ness, excellent network between the company and the training world Emotion Formula - Myth and Identity The design: the art of shapes and materials to dress top technologies The brand: the Prancing Horse, the Red colour, races, victories The factory: places and buildings, great architects to the service of work environments, aesthetics, sustainability and safety The personality: "Ferrari style", cars-unique specimens, customization, colours Finally – after a busy day, head back to your hotel for dinner and to relax.

Day 3– Pagani – Product of a Dream and Italy’s first food theme park! Breakfast at hotel, Gelato and Pizza at Fico

After breakfast at your hotel this morning, board your coach for the transfer to Pagani. Pagani, located in Modena, Italy, is run by Horacio Pagani, who formerly managed Lamborghini's composites, and founded Pagani Composite Research in 1988. This new company worked with Lamborghini on numerous projects, including the restyling of the 25th Anniversary Countach, the Lamborghini LM002, the P140 design concept, and the Diablo. In the late 1980s, Pagani began designing his own car, then referred to as the "C8 Project". Pagani planned to rename the C8 the "Fangio F1" to honour his friend, the five-time Argentinian Formula One champion Juan Manuel Fangio. Boasting some of the world’s most elegantly designed automobiles, Pagani’s Factory Tour gives an inside look at the science and design that go into these world class machines.

Reboard the coach for the transfer to Fico Eataly – Italy’s first food and farming “theme park”. FICO is the world’s most exciting Italian food park. A unique way to experience the flavors of Italy. A place where each food is an experience, offering guests the opportunity to discover how they’re made.

Enjoy free time to explore the vast array of food ideas – from traditional parmesan to Italian chocolate before experiencing a traditional pizza making class followed by a visit to the Gelato university! Established in 1946 thanks to the success of the founders’ “Autogelatiera” gelato machine – one of the 34 most important inventions of the twentieth century – Carpigiani and the Masters of Carpigiani Gelato University are now ready to show visitors every step of the process involved in making real Italian gelato; from the basic ingredients to the serving cup. In addition to a fully functional gelato factory, there’s even the Gelato Museum in Bologna (one of the “coolest” experiences in the world, according to Zagat), where visitors of all ages can enjoy an exciting journey into the ancient art of gelato-making.
