Tote Win Bet
Aim:
The aim of the WIN bet is to select the horse that you think will win the race. It is the most popular
Tote bet, as it is the most straightforward and simple bet to play. You can play a WIN bet on all Irish
and UK horse racing with the Tote.
How to play:
Some people simply pick the favourite horse in the race (that’s the horse with the shortest price)
while others will sometimes go for an outsider, who may not be as well fancied to win, but will be
paying a much better price and therefore will give much better value for your WIN bet.
Cost:
The minimum stake for a Tote WIN bet is €1. The maximum stake is €1,000. Tote WIN dividends are
declared to a €1 stake.
Examples:
Tote pool dividends are displayed in decimal format. Whilst it may differ from traditional fractional
odds, decimal odds mean that your stake is included in your return. This makes it easier to calculate
your winnings!

Tote Place Bet
Aim:
The aim of a Place bet is to select a horse to be placed in the race. This means that your horse can
finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th dependent on the number of horses in the race – you can see the places
below. This is a good bet when you fancy a horse to do well, but think it is unlikely to win the race.
As it is easier to pick a placed horse the Tote dividends are slightly reduced. You will find the
projected Place dividend displayed on screen beside the Win dividend on course and here online.
Place betting is available on all races with 5 or more runners. However, the number of places that
the Tote pays depends on the number of runners:
Places paid on Irish racing:
No. Of Runners Places
1-4 No Place Betting
5-7 2 Places - 1st or 2nd
8+ 3 Places - 1st, 2nd or 3rd
16+ Handicap Races 4 Places - 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th
Cost:
The minimum stake for a Tote PLACE bet is €1.00 and bet amounts can only increase in multiples of
€1.00. The maximum stake per bet is €1,000. Place dividends are declared to €1.
For Example:
If you play a €20 (stake) PLACE bet on horse in a ten runner race, and the horse finishes 1st, 2nd or
3rd you will win.
Place Betting Rules:
Please note that the payment of 4th place on Irish racing is only available on HANDICAP RACES with
16 or more runners. For all other non-Irish racing, the numbers of places paid are determined by the
rules of that betting jurisdiction.
The current minimum dividend for place bets is €1.10. However, in cases where the calculation of
the dividend results in the dividend spending’s exceeding the place pool, the Tote may recalculate
the dividends as per Tote rules and in these instances may pay a minimum dividend of €1.02. For
non-Irish racing, please note that the minimum payout value is determined by the betting rules of
the jurisdiction we are betting in to.

International host betting rules apply to place positions.
Dead Heats:
If two or more horses’ dead heat for the final position which constitutes a place, a dividend is paid
on each of those dead-heating horses. The amount of the pool allocated to that place is divided
equally between the dead-heating horses.
Withdrawn Horses:
If your horse has been withdrawn under starters orders before the "off" of the race and the Tote has
received such information your bet is void and shall be refunded to you.

Tote Each Way
Aim:
An Each Way bet is simply a Tote Win and a Tote Place bet combined on the same horse. You can
bet Each Way on all races with 5 or more runners. This is a very popular way of betting, as it
increases your chances of winning.
Cost:
Because an Each Way bet combines two bets it will cost you double your stake e.g. €10 E/W bet will
cost you €20. i.e. €10 on the Win portion and €10 on the Place portion.
Consequently there can be more than one outcome:
For example: In a 15 runner race you place a €10 E/W bet on a horse. This will cost you €20. The
Win dividend is €15.00 the place dividend is €3.00.
The minimum stake for an Each-Way bet is €1 (total bet cost = €2), and the maximum is €500 (total
bet cost = €1,000)
Outcome 1: Your horse finishes 4th:
If your horse finishes outside the number of qualifying runners for a place (e.g. 8-15 runners we pay
1st, 2nd, or 3rd) then you lose your stake.
Outcome 2: Your horse finishes 2nd:
If your horse finishes second then it has been placed. You lose the win portion of your bet.
However, as it has placed you get paid the place stake. Using the above example, you get €10
multiplied by the place dividend €3.00, therefore you have won €30.
Outcome 3: Your horse Wins:
If your horse wins you are entitled to the Win and Place portion of your bet. Using the above
example you collect the following:
€10 Win x Win dividend €15.00 = €150
€10 Place x Place dividend €3.00 = €30
Therefore you win €180, which is inclusive of your investment of only €20.

Tote Exacta
Aim:
The Exacta bet is often also referred to as the Forecast bet. A Straight Exacta involves selecting the
1st and 2nd horses’ home in the correct order. You can place an Exacta bet on all races with 3 or
more runners. Whilst the Exacta is certainly a more challenging bet than a simple Win or Place, it
does offer greater returns. The Exacta has the potential for a big payout whilst only placing a small
stake.
Cost:
The minimum stake is €1. The maximum is €500.
A €1 Straight Exacta costs €1
A €4 Straight Exacta on horses 2 and 5 means that horse 2 must come first and horse 5 must come in
second for you to win.
Exacta Banker:
You can also do an Exacta banker with the Tote. Effectively, you are selecting a horse to bank on to
win the race and you can pick a number of others that you think might come second then.
The cost is as follows:
Banker to win:
+2 others = €2 +3 others = €3 + 4 others = €4 etc.
Reverse Exacta
To make it a little easier, you can choose to reverse your Exacta bet, which means that the two
horses you select can come 1st and 2nd in any order. This is like having two bets, and therefore costs
twice the stake.
For example, a €1 Reverse Exacta on horses 1 and 3 will cost €2 and you will win the bet if either of
the following two outcomes occurs:
1. Horse 1 comes 1st and horse 3 comes 2nd 2. Horse 3 comes 1st and horse 1 comes 2nd
B e t t i n g G u i d e 2 0 1 5
Page 7
Combination Exacta
A Combination Exacta allows you to select several horses to finish first and second in any order. The
more horses you select, the greater your chances of winning; however it will also increase your total
cost.
A 3 horse Combination Exacta costs €6 A 4 horse Combination Exacta costs €12 A 5 horse Combination Exacta costs €20
If there is no winner of the Exacta pool then the total pool is rolled over to the next race.

Tote Trifecta
Aim:
The Tote Trifecta involves you selecting the 1st, 2nd and 3rd horses’ home in the correct order. This
bet is available with the Tote on all races with 3 or more declared runners. The Trifecta is the ideal
bet when you fancy a few horses.
How to Play:
From 16th September 2013, the Trifecta costs from just 10cent per line to play and the dividends will
be declared to a €1 stake. The maximum wager per bet is €500.
Straight Trifecta Pick the horses to come 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the correct order.
Combination Trifecta You can also select more than three horses when doing the Trifecta. You pick three or more horses
and they can finish in the first three in any order. This way should any combination of your selected
horses finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd in any order, you win! Whilst selecting more horses will increase your
chances of winning, the more horses you select the more your bet will cost you.
Trifecta Banker Another option is to do a Banker Trifecta and select 1 banker and combine it with a number of
others. Selecting a banker means that you must pick the horse you think will finish 1st, and then
pick other horses which can finish in either 2nd or 3rd position.
Rollovers:
From 16th Sept 2013, Trifecta rollovers will be on a 50/50 basis as follows:
When there is a rollover or a partial rollover, 50% of the rollover amount will always roll to the next available Race 6 and 50% will roll to Race 6 on the following Sunday.
The exception being when there is a rollover from any Race 6 on a weekday or a Sunday this will roll 100% to Race 6 on the following Sunday.
In the case of double fixtures on Sunday, Tote will notify customers on www.thetote.com to which meeting the rollover will be applied.
Previously when a Trifecta pool was not won the total amount was rolled over to the next available Race 6.

Tote Irish Jackpot
Aim:
On Irish meetings you must pick the winners of races 3, 4, 5 and 6. Perhaps one of the trickier Tote
bets, however, it is also one of the most rewarding. Your Jackpot bet must be placed before the
"off" of race 3. Similar to the Placepot the Jackpot dividend is reflective of the number of favourites
that win each race. Ideally, the less favourites that win the bigger your dividend will be.
Cost:
Calculating the cost of your Jackpot bet is straightforward. Multiply the number of horses you pick
in each race by one another. This will give you the number of units you have. Then multiply this
figure by your selected stake.
The minimum stake on a single line Jackpot (i.e. a Jackpot where you have only selected one runner
per race) is €1. The minimum stake for Permutation Jackpots (i.e. a Jackpot where you have selected
various amount of runners) is €1, rising thereafter in multiples of €1. The maximum unit stake is
€25. Jackpot dividends are declared to a €1 stake.
Jackpot Rules:
In the instance when there is no winner of the Jackpot, the total pool is rolled over to the next
selected race meeting.
Non- Runners and withdrawn horses are transferred to the SP Favourite or in the case of joint
favourites the runner with the lowest race card number.
Please note that in instances where all legs of a Jackpot are not run (due to cancellation) and the
pool(s) are guaranteed for a specific amount and the guarantee is not reached the pool and winning
dividends will be calculated on the actual amount on the day (including any rollover to the pool if it
is applicable).
There are regular Jackpot Guarantees and Rollovers making this an exciting, more lucrative bet to
play.

Tote Pick Six Aim:
The Tote Pick Six involves picking the winners of six consecutive races, which are always races 1 to 6.
The Pick Six must be placed before the "off" of race 1. This challenging bet will reap significant
rewards.
Cost:
Calculating the cost of your Pick Six bet is straightforward. Multiply the number of horses you pick in
each race by one another. This will give you the number of units you have. Then multiply this figure
by your selected stake. For example:
Race 1 Race 2 Race 3 Race 4 Race 5 Race 6 Calculation
No of horses in
each race:
2 1 2 1 3 2 2x1x2x1x3x2 = 24
For €1 stake the total bet cost is €24 or for 50c stake the cost is €12.
The minimum stake on a single line Pick Six (i.e. a Pick Six where you have only selected one runner
per race) is €1.
The minimum stake for Permutation Pick Six bets (i.e. a Pick Six where you have selected various
amount of runners) is €0.50, rising thereafter in multiples of €0.50. The maximum unit stake is €25.
Pick Six dividends are declared to a €1 stake.
Pick Six Rules:
In the instance where there is no winner of the Tote Pick Six, the total pool is rolled over to the next
applicable race meeting.
Non-Runners and withdrawn horses are transferred to the SP Favourite or in the case of joint
favourites the runner with the lowest race card number.
Please note that in instances where all legs of a Pick 6 bet are not run (due to cancellation) and the
pool(s) are guaranteed for a specific amount and the guarantee is not reached the pool and winning
dividends will be calculated on the actual amount on the day (including any rollover to the pool if it
is applicable).

Tote Irish Placepot
Aim:
The aim of the Tote Placepot is to select horses to be placed in all 6 of the Placepot races. The Irish
Placepot races are always races 1-6. However, you can also do a Placepot on all UK race meetings
daily. A Placepot bet must be placed before the "off" of race 1. If your Placepot is successful, your
dividend will be paid out after the winner of the 6th race is announced.
Don't forget, when betting with the Tote you are betting against other people in the pool rather than
the bookmaker so if you go against the crowd your payout will be much more substantial.
Selecting the favourite - You can now select the FAV (favourite) in one or more legs of your Placepot
bet when you play on course, online or via the call centre.
Cost:
How much does it cost to play the Placepot?
Calculating the cost of your Placepot bet is easy. All you have to do is multiply the number of horses
you pick in each race by each other. This will give you the number of units you have. Then multiply
this figure by your selected stake.
For Example:
Race Selections
Race 1: 2 horses
Race 2: 1 horse
Race 3: 3 horse
Race 4: 1 horse
Race 5: 2 horse
Race 6: 1 horse
B e t t i n g G u i d e 2 0 1 5
Page 13
Thus 2x1x3x1x2x1 = 12 units
12 units at a €1 stake will cost you €12.
The minimum stake on a single line Placepot (i.e. a Placepot where you have only selected one
runner per race) is €1. The minimum stake for Permutation Placepots (i.e. a Placepot where you
have selected various amount of runners) is €0.10, rising thereafter in multiples of your selected
stake, in this example €0.10. Placepot dividends are declared to a €1 stake.
Where there are no winners of the Placepot the pool will be rolled over to the next selected race
meeting.
Be careful of Non- Runners and withdrawn horses: in these instances you are transferred onto the SP
Favourite or in the case of joint favourites, the runner with the lowest race card number.
Please note that in instances where all legs of a Placepot bet are not run (due to cancellation) and
the pool(s) are guaranteed for a specific amount and the guarantee is not reached the pool and
winning dividends will be calculated on the actual amount on the day (including any rollover to the
pool if it is applicable).

Tote UK Scoop 6
Pick the winner of all 6 races!
The tote scoop 6 is a tote pool bet which runs each Saturday on six selected races, usually ones that
are being shown live on Channel 4. The aim is to pick the winner of all six races.
Pool:
The Scoop 6 pool is split into three separate funds – the win fund, the bonus fund and the place
fund.
To win your share of the win fund, you’ll need to pick the winner of all six Scoop6 races. If all six of
your horses are placed, you’ll win your share of the place fund.
All win fund winners can register to play for the bonus fund the following week. To win a share of
the bonus fund, you’ll need to pick the winner of the nominated bonus race as selected by tote pool.
Where to Play:
You can play the Scoop 6 online at thetote.com, on your mobile at m.thetote.com and by calling our
Contact Centre at 045 491830. You will need to have a Tote account number to play.

Tote UK Quadpot
Aim:
Betting is available daily with the Tote on the UK Quadpot. The Quadpot is often considered the
baby brother to the Placepot. The aim of the Quadpot is to select a placed horse in each of the 4
Quadpot races. The Quadpot races are always races 3 - 6 unless otherwise stated. It is an ideal bet if
you have missed the Placepot or if you have already been knocked out from the Placepot.
How to play:
Calculating the cost of your Quadpot is identical to calculating a Placepot bet. Multiply the number
of horses you pick in each race by one another. This will give you the number of units you have.
Then multiply this figure by your selected stake.
Cost:
Race 3: 2 horses Race 4: 3 horses Race 5: 2 horses Race 6: 3 horses
Thus 2x3x2x3 = 36 units
36 units at a £1 stake will cost you £36.
Stakes: Single line entries are accepted with a minimum stake of £2 (€2.48), rising thereafter in
multiples of 50p £2 (€0.62). Permutation entries are accepted with a minimum stake of 50p, rising
thereafter in multiples of 50p (€0.62), providing a minimum total of £2 (€2.48) is staked.
In Order to solve past issues our clients encountered with some UK products.
We now offer all UK multi-leg bets in Sterling with a Euro equivalent when you select a Sterling stake
you will be shown the Euro Equivalent next to it i.e. £10 (€12.54)
As the UK pools take whole Pence only, this new method ensures you get the full benefit of winnings
from the UK Pools

Quadpot Rules:
1. Horses can be selected by racecard number or horse name. Should the racecard number of an overnight declared runner be allocated to a reserve horse, the reserve horse(s) will be re-numbered sequentially in line with Tote Racecourse Cash Rules.
2. Should a Quadpot race become a walkover or a specified race is not run or is declared void, the pool(s) will operate on the remaining Quadpot races. In this event total stakes on permutation entries are applied in full to the remaining races. Where a selection becomes a non-runner it will be replaced by the Starting Price favourite.
3. Where there are joint favourites, the joint favourite with the lowest racecard number will be taken. Should the favourite be withdrawn before coming under Starters Orders and too late for a new favourite to be made, the horse returned at the next shortest price will be taken.
4. Where two or more horses are returned at the next shortest price, the one with the lowest racecard number will be taken. If no Starting Price is returned the first actual runner quoted in the Racing Post betting forecast will be taken. Should the Racing Post not publish a betting forecast, settlement will be made in line with Tote Racecourse Cash Rules. In the event of a Quadpot pool being cancelled bets for the pool concerned will be void.

Tote UK Jackpot
Aim:
The UK Jackpot can be bet on with the Tote one selected UK fixture, except for Saturday where the
focus turns to the Scoop 6. The UK Jackpot differs from the Irish Jackpot as you have to pick the
winner of 6 races. The UK Jackpot races are always races 1 - 6 unless otherwise stated. As per all
Jackpots’s bets must be placed before the first race and dividends are declared after the last Jackpot
race. Due to the tricky nature of selecting 6 winners, if you are successful the payouts are
particularly good.
Cost:
Calculate the cost of your Jackpot bet by multiplying the number of horses you pick in each race by
each other. This will give you the number of units you have. Then multiply this figure by your
selected stake.
For Example:
Race 1: 2 horses Race 2: 3 horses Race 3: 2 horses Race 4: 2 horses Race 5: 3 horses Race 6: 1 horses
Thus 2x3x2x2x3x1 = 72 units
72 units at a £1 stake will cost you £72.

Tote UK Placepot
Aim:
The Tote offer's UK Placepot betting on all UK race meetings. Similar to the Irish Placepot you must
select a placed horse in all 6 Placepot races at your selected meeting. The UK Placepot races are

Tote UK Swinger Aim:
Pick 2 horses to finish in any of the first 3 places!
The tote swinger is a tote pool bet available on races with six or more runners.
You need to select two horses to finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any order. The tote swinger is one bet that
gives you three chances to win. Your selections can finish 1st & 2nd, 1st & 3rd or 2nd & 3rd.
