TOTALITARIANISM• Throughout the 20th century there have been many
totalitarian leaders. Totalitarianism is a form of government that takes over public and private lives of a citizen. Totalitarianism also denies there basic liberties and rights of people.
• Within the last 100 years there have been many leaders that have effected the 20th century, mainly in all bad ways. The leaders that stood out the most were Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Joseph Stalin, Kim Il Sung and Saddam Hussein.

Dynamic Leadership• Dynamic Leadership is how totalitarianism symbolizes
government & unites and encourages support through force and will.
How did Hilter Use Dynamic leadership?• Hitler used dynamic leadership by having the Gestapo,
which was the Nazi secret police force come and arrest citizens who were against the government or if they were Jewish. They were then sent to concentration camps and tortured and most of them were killed.

Nazi Concentration Camps
35,000 to 40,000 inmates died of starvation, overcrowding, hard labor and disease
510,000 unburied dead were found here. Another 13,000 have since died. All of them victims of the German.
Ideology/Propaganda • Ideology: sets goals of the state, glorifies of the
state & justifies government actions.• Propaganda is used as a type of censorship to
create the illusion that everything about war is good

State Control Of Individuals• The Nazis demanded loyalty by killing people if they
didn’t do what they were instructed to do• They denied certain liberties , and were banned
from playing certain music.• Expected personal sacrifices for the good of the country by doing things such as going to parades hanging flags in their windows and just going out of their ways to help their country

Methods Of EnforcementPolice terror: Gestapo secret police force who arrested people
against Nazi controlled government.Indoctrination: Brain washing the young kinds to be a Nazi.Censorship: Only allowing the good to be seen and blocking out
all the bad stuff.Persecution: Nazi’s persecuted the Jew’s by forcing them to wear
the Star of David . They also separated the Jewish but putting them into certain parts of the city. And sending them to concentration camps

Modern Technology
• Mass Communication: They used things like T.V. and the radio to more easily so that they could either build upon peoples beliefs or get people to start believing.
• Advanced Weapons: The British used a new thing called the radar which could track enemy warships and tell how many there were, how fast they were going, and in which direction they were heading. They also had new bombs such as the atomic bomb.
