Join us on this very special cruise as we sail from Southampton in search of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) along the beautiful Norwegian coast before going on to view the Total Solar Eclipse of 20 March 2015 at sea.

This will be the last total solar eclipse visible from Europe until 2026.

After the eclipse is over we will pay a visit to the remote Faroe Islands before returning to Southampton.

8th - 24th March 2015

aN ovErviEw of your cruisE You’ll have plenty to do during your quest, as there will be ample opportunity for a series of optional tours en route. Your first visit will be to Alesund, now regarded as one of Europe’s marvels, with its art-nouveau epic of towers and turrets, ornaments and balconies, steeples and spires. The imaginative, colourful buildings make the Norwegian town an astonishing visual experience which draws visitors from all over the world. The national Art Nouveau Centre (Jugendstilsenteret) is well worth a visit or just stroll through the pedestrianised streets, enjoying the art galleries, diverse shops and lively restaurants and cafes. We then move on to the town of Tromso, deep inside the Arctic Circle, where we hope to view the magical beauty of the Northern Lights. Tromso is a delightful city with its many historic wooden houses and Arctic Cathedral - the most northerly in the world. Your cruise holiday then continues to the northernmost city in the world, Alta and your best chance to witness the Northern Lights.

On to Leknes, one of the first ports of call inside the Arctic Circle which looks out over the stunning Lofoten Islands. The wild landscape of jagged peaks, cliffs and bright-white sandy beaches makes the area one of the most picturesque in Norway, and a climb up out of town is rewarded with stunning views in all directions. The nearby village of Borg is home to a Viking museum, based on one of the largest buildings of that era ever discovered (by a farmer ploughing his fields in the early 1980s). The museum is very much alive: partly lit by oil lamps, it has exhibits of gold fertility figures, pottery, and glassware and regular displays of handicrafts. In the outside area are domestic animals, many of which are ancient breeds that might have been raised by the Vikings.

Our final port of call is Tórshavn. The Vikings discovered these islands over a thousand years ago, and established their main harbour here, naming it after Thor, the Norse god of thunder and lightning. With forts in place to protect the town, it became a major trading centre, although the village remained tiny until the 20th century.Today, Tórshavn is a picturesque town of flagstone streets, elegant buildings, informative museums, exhibitions, theatres and parks. Many of the older buildings are open to the public. The Reynagarður vicarage dates from the mid-1600s, while Munkastovan, with its heavy stone walls, is part of the medieval fort that protected the town from pirates. Skansin fort, started in 1580 and finished about 200 years later, retains marks of the occupation of the Faroes by nations as diverse as the Danes and (from the Second World War) the British.

your shipBoudicca was the heroic warrior queen of the British Iceni tribe. This truly British, world class cruise ship lives up to the name.

Up to 800 people can enjoy a cruise on board Boudicca – not the thousands to be found on most ships these days – so there’s plenty of space for everyone. And our cruise ship is small enough to reach shores many rival cruise ships cannot.

Inside, indulge yourself at the Tintagel and Four Seasons Restaurants. Lounge around on the Lounge Deck, or in one of our two Jacuzzis. Or splash around in one of our three pools. And when the sun’s shining, our tasty poolside buffet will hit the spot.

There’ll be days and nights to remember on board Boudicca
