Methodology

Trainers were divided into 5 groups. Each group was assigned certain topics from Training Manuals. Each group had to prepare and deliver those sessions via using different training techniques mentioned in manual i.e. brain storming, mock drill, role play, group work and presentation.

For session delivery, groups were provided with 30-40 minutes depending upon the nature of the contents. 15 minutes were fixed for feed back after each session.

ToT facilitator had to continuously assist trainer groups in preparation and session delivery. In many session e.g. mocks and transit walks, facilitator included himself as a part of that activity.

Difference between needs, rights and desire.

In our ordinary life, we the lay men usually intermingle thin differences between need, desire and rights. One need to differentiate among these three different phenomenon. Facilitator initially used brain storming method then group work and presentations technique to inculcate the concepts in the minds of participants. Participants view, group work and trainer facilitation concluded that;

Need: Need is what we require for our survival and maintaining an optimal living standard. Needs are of following types;

Physical Needs, i.e. Food, shelter, water, cloths, oxygen, light, sunlight etc. Social Needs, i.e. family, marriage, children, peer groups etc. Political Need, i.e. right of vote casting, Economical needs, i.e. means of livelihood

Desire: Desires are in fact luxurious need. Desires are ruled by “id” aspect of personality. i.e. Aspiration for a racing bike instead of a necessary ordinary bike, wish for a bungalow instead of a shelter for living.

Rights: legitimate and legal provision to get benefits from any given thing or phenomenon is called right. Rights are always considered;

Universal Indivisible Durable Un-biased

Formation of Groups and assignment of training topics:

After that, participants were divided in five equal groups. It was again of great worth to format groups. After consensus, it was decided to name each single CSO a group number. Chemistry behind this was a productive thinking, “to improve the understanding and coordination between trainers from each individual CSO. This was done alphabetically. Alphabetically assigned number to each group (CSO) were;

1. HELO Organization, Ali Pur2. IBSMT, Kot Addu3. Rights and Rights and Rights, Kot Addu4. SANJH, Muzaffargarh5. SYCOP, Muzaffargarh

Methodology used: Brain Storming, Group work

Group started delivering their session with questioning from participants and brain storming. Group then divided participants in 2 teams for group work. Team one was assigned to list down on the topic “ why we call a child as child? And group two was assigned to list down on chart why a mature is called an elder. Teams were given 10 minutes time for this activity. After putting their ideas on flip charts, both teams presented their work in front of rest participants.

After summing up the presentations of both 2 teams, Trainer group related their concepts with the definition of child according to CRC. Participants were also told by trainer group that CRC is approved by Medical and Islamic Ideological Council of Pakistan.

Again, participants were divided into 4 teams by trainer group. Each team was asked to pen down their views regarding those child rights which help them in their grooming and to be a good citizen of nation. 15 minutes were given to teams for this purpose.

Once, teams had done their job, each team pasted their charts on wall and presented their work. Team with best work was awarded with key chains as gift.

In the end, trainer group distributed CRC booklet among the participants and asked participants to read out that booklet in order to compare their understanding regarding child and child rights with that of articles of CRC.

Day 02, Session 01

Day 02 was started with recitation. After recitation, 2 participants (From IBSMT and SANJH) reviewed day 1st activities. After day 1st

review, group # 02 delivered its session.

Group No.02: Responsible (s) of child rights

Methodology: Group work, Role play

This group started their training session with a group work. Following the manual’s methodology, they divided participants in 4 equal teams and distributed CRC booklets among each team. Each team was then asked to thoroughly read out CRC booklet. After that each team was given a format drawn on charts regarding the identification of responsible people and institutes responsible of ensuring child rights. Teams were given 25 minutes for this. After given time, each group presented its work in front of participants. After this activity, participants were told by trainer group that this very activity will help you (VO members and village community) to develop their village development plan.

Again, participants were divided in 2 teams for a role play. Thematic idea of role play was to sensitize participants about “ what children feel when they are ignored or their opinions are ignored by us”. For this, Team A was sent out of the room while Team B were made to remain in room. Team A was told by trainer group to go in room after 3 minutes and try to give their opinions on a certain phenomenon to “Team B” sitting in room. On contrary, “Team B” members were asked to quietly ignore the communication efforts of “Team A”.

After the role play, “Team A members” (children) were asked about their feelings after been ignored by elders. Views of the teams members (children) were ;

We felt so bad on this ignoring behavior.

Page 12: ToT Report,RDPI Multan

Page

3 DAys tOt of partner csos on ccdrm manual (For elders) October 27, 2011

I am feeling victim of inferiority complex. Etc

Concluding the session, trainer group told that same happens with children when they are ignored by us. So, we should give worth to them and their opinions for their personality development.

Day 02, Session 02

Group No.03: Child Protection and Participation

Methodology: Brain storming, group work, role play

Group 03 of trainer started their work with questioning and brain storming. They started with “ as you all know that children have some rights, similarly are certain child protection issues around us”. Participants were encouraged to express their views regarding various child protection issues. After that participants were divided into 4 teams. Each team was provided with charts and markers and were asked to write down various child protection issues in our local communities. Teams were given 15 minutes for this activity. After given time, each team presented its work.

After that, same groups were indulged by trainer group in a role play to express the importance of child participation in our routine and domestic matters.

Feedback from participants: Session delivery and confidence was good. Yet, trainer needs to have more command over subject knowledge.

Importance of children participation in development process

DCBC (ToT facilitator) then discussed with participants the role and importance of children in development process. He narrated various examples from our common life.

Group No.04: Children and Development

Methodology: Brain storming, team work

Group 04 delivered its session on development, its concepts and role and importance of children participation in development process. They started off their session with a question ;

Page 13: ToT Report,RDPI Multan

Page

3 DAys tOt of partner csos on ccdrm manual (For elders) October 27, 2011

“If their village is as per their desires and aspirations”. Ans of the majority was “No”.

Again participants were divided into 4 teams and were asked to draw a picture of their dream village on flip charts. They were given 15 minutes for it. After given time, each team presented their village picture drawn on charts.

After this activity, trainer group via brain storming inculcated the concept of development in the minds of the participants.

After this one, trainer group, via animated sketched pictures, threw light on the importance and role of children in development process.

Concluding their session, they told participants that, children cover almost 48% of our total population. Ignoring them means we are ignoring a noticeable proportion of population in the process of development. This invisible factor really hampers the process of development of any nation.

Feed back: confidence, energy, flow and session delivery was good, yet due to complexion of the topic, there were some gaps to be filled. It was suggested to participants by Capacity Building Coordinator (PLAN Pakistan) to work on this training topic in order to make it more easy and convenient to deliver.

Session by Capacity Building Coordinator (PLAN Pakistan)

Miss Uzma Shaffi (CBC) from PLAN Multan, Pakistan visited ToT venue. She in her session, briefed participants about the concept of minorities. She told that minorities is never a symbol of just religious minority group, rather any proportion of the total in less quantity is called minority. Minority group may be religious, political, a group of marginalized or excluded etc.
