So here are a few of our top motor checks and regular maintenance tips and tricks that’ll keep you road-safe and worry-free! Enjoy.

TYRES

• Know the correct tyre pressures for your car, and check them at least every 2 weeks.• Check tyre tread and condition – and look for cuts on sidewalls. If any one tyre needs regular top-ups, it may have a slow puncture.• Always carry a spare tyre with you, and check this tyre regularly, too!

• Your car should come with a small tyre toolkit, but if it doesn’t, be sure to always carry one, just in case!• The kit should contain a jack and wheel removal tools.• Familiarise yourself with the jacking points used to lift the car safely.• If locking wheel nuts are fitted, make sure that the toolkit includes the key or removal tool.

TYRE TOOLKIT

ENGINE OIL

• Check the dipstick at least once every 2 weeks, andalways before any long journey.• Have the oil and filter changed at recommendedservice intervals, and using oil of the correct specification.• High oil consumption can indicate engine problems.

WATER

• Check the coolant level regularly, and top up when needed. TIP: Only fill up coolant level when the engine is cold.• Antifreeze prevents the build-up of corrosion within the cooling system as well as stopping the coolant freezing, so be sure to check your antifreeze regularly, all year round.• Always check antifreeze concentration before winter, andfar more often during.

WINDSCREEN

• Always check your car’s windscreen regularly for any stone damage. Even the slightest damage to the glass can cause vision impairment and distract attention.• Minor chips, if not repaired, can grow and cause health and safety issues to both you and your car. Always contact a windscreen specialist before trying to fix it yourself!

WIPERS

• Like anything that is heavily used over time, wiper blades wear down and will smear rather than clean the windscreen when they have become worn.• Aim to repair windscreen wipers at least once a year for best performance.

SCREENWASH

• Check screen wash levels and top up regularly. It is a legal requirement that the system works.• Use a good screen wash additive through summer and winter. Water alone will not be strong enough to clear oily road grime, and will freeze more readily during winter.
