Sentences

Can you read out a short sentence for your child to write? Focus on using finger spaces

between words and full stops at the end of sentences.

o ar - It is hard to park the car. Will a dog bark when he sees a shark? It is dark on the

moon.

o or - Is the torch on? Is corn red? You are short. Look at my fort.

Tricky Words

▪ Recap he, she, me, be, we, my, was, her, they, you, are, all.

▪ Ask your child to use bright colouring pencils, pens, crayons etc... To practise writing out

the tricky words on the ‘Rainbow Wall’. The Rainbow Wall will be posted on the Class

Story for you. You could print out 5 copies and ask your child to focus on a different

word every day.

▪ Extra activity – write tricky words on the ground using chalk OR lay tricky word flash

cards on the ground (rainbow bricks are on Class Dojo). Shout out a tricky word. Can you

Page 3: Top Ten Learning Activities Activity 1 Literacy ar car, far, bark ......Reception Top Ten Learning Activities Week Beginning 01.06.20 Activity 1 Literacy Focus on the following sounds

bounce a ball on the correct tricky word? If you don’t have a ball, could you throw a

different object onto the tricky word?

Activity 2

Numeracy

Doubles

This week, I’d like you to learn doubles.

0 + 0 = 0

1 + 1 = 2

2 + 2 = 4

3 + 3 = 6

4 + 4 = 8

5 + 5 = 10

6 + 6 = 12

Page 4: Top Ten Learning Activities Activity 1 Literacy ar car, far, bark ......Reception Top Ten Learning Activities Week Beginning 01.06.20 Activity 1 Literacy Focus on the following sounds

7 + 7 = 14

8 + 8 = 16

9 + 9 = 18

10 + 10 = 20

♦ Step down - learn doubles to 10 first.

1. Use your fingers to add doubles. When you get to double 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, flash your

fingers twice.

Or you can use numicon shapes. For example:

Page 5: Top Ten Learning Activities Activity 1 Literacy ar car, far, bark ......Reception Top Ten Learning Activities Week Beginning 01.06.20 Activity 1 Literacy Focus on the following sounds

2. Sing the doubles rap. Doubles to 10 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ik_-OAgzD-8

Doubles to 20 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jOzhiACB68 Doubles song -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDqbCfplYrg

3. Use the butterfly template to show double the number of spots. However, many spots

you draw on the left wing, must be reflected on the right wing. You may like to paint

spots on 1 side, then fold the butterfly in half.

4. Complete the ladybird double worksheet or the double dominoes worksheet.

Extra activity – print out the ladybirds and spots. Cut out the spots. Place the same

number of spots on the opposite wings. Find out what double 1-9 is. This has been posted

on Class Dojo for you.

Extra activity – could you collect natural materials in your garden, count them and then

place a mirror in front of them to see what double the amount would be?

Page 6: Top Ten Learning Activities Activity 1 Literacy ar car, far, bark ......Reception Top Ten Learning Activities Week Beginning 01.06.20 Activity 1 Literacy Focus on the following sounds

Extra activity – count out a number of toys. Explain that you will find out what double

the amount is by placing a mirror next to the objects. Count the objects in the mirror

and in front of you. Then write the number sentence.

Here are a few more ideas:

Activity 3

Topic

This week I’d like you to make up your own fairy-tale!

• You can do this orally, using pictures. You may like to draw your own pictures or use the

flash cards that I have uploaded on Class Dojo.

• You can write a beginning, middle and an end on the worksheet I have uploaded on Class

Dojo.

• You can make your own book.

❖ Make a ‘Once upon a time...’ bag. Pull out different pictures that make up a fairy-tale,

such as a picture of a castle, a dragon, a princess and a magic wand. What could happen in

the story? You could do this numerous times and have different settings, magical objects

and characters each time. If children find this difficult, start them off with your ideas

and model a story.

Activity 4

PSE

Your Royal Highness! Wear your crown because today you are a king/queen!

What rules would you make as king/queen?

Would you declare that Friday is hot chocolate and marshmallows day? Would you demand that

every Wednesday is onesie day? How about having dessert before your dinner?

Tell me what rules you would like to declare in your fairy-tale land!

Activity 5

Outdoors

➢ Could you have a royal feast/picnic outdoors in your garden?

➢ Who are you going to invite to your royal feast? (Teddies & toys)

➢ Are you going to help prepare the feast?

➢ What are you going to have to eat and drink?

➢ Will you play any party games and sing songs?

Activity 6

Funky Fingers

Can you use your fingers/tweezers/cooking tongs to find doubles? Can you put pom

poms/bobbles/small toys/lego onto 2 plates to show double the number? Add them all up to

find out the answer!

I have uploaded number sentences to Class Dojo.

Activity 7

PE

Jasmine

Over the next couple of weeks, we will develop our ball skills.

Please practise, throwing and catching a ball.

1. Throw it up in the air and catch it.

2. Throw it up in the air, clap, then catch it.

3. How many times can you clap before the ball hits the ground?

4. Throw the ball to a family member to catch. When receiving the ball, make sure your

hands are ready!

5. How many times can you throw and catch the ball without dropping it?

6. How far can you throw it? Try it a few times to see if you can beat your last turn!

If a tennis ball is too small, try a light football/sponge ball or a balloon!

Page 10: Top Ten Learning Activities Activity 1 Literacy ar car, far, bark ......Reception Top Ten Learning Activities Week Beginning 01.06.20 Activity 1 Literacy Focus on the following sounds

Please practise aiming.

1. Throw a large ball into a hula hoop/chalk circle on the ground.

2. Throw a small ball/bean bag into a hula hoop.

3. Move the hula hoop further away and try to get the ball/beanbag into the hoop.

4. Have different targets to aim for. Different sized hoops/chalk circles could be worth

different points.

5. Could you then try throwing a ball/bean bag into a bucket/bowl?

6. Move the bucket/bowl further away.

7. Have different buckets/bowls to aim for. Different buckets/bowls could be worth

different points.

8. Could you tie a hula hoop to the washing line for children to practise throwing through?

Talk to your child about which throw would be best suited to different situations – over arm

or under arm?

Alternatively, please visit https://home.jasmineactive.com/ for daily PE activities.

You can work through these at your own pace.
