7. Expert Opinion

7.1 Visiongain Interview with Telcare Visiongain conducted an interview with Dr. Jonathan Javitt, CEO and Founder at Telcare about his

viewpoint of the mHealth market.

7.1.1 Company Background and Product Offerings Visiongain: Please give us a little background about Telcare and its mHealth related

product/service offerings. Dr. Jonathan Javitt: Telcare offers an award-winning, cellular-enabled technology platform that

connects patients with their caregivers, increases treatment compliance and improves self-

management of diabetes. Telcare’s mobile-optimized blood glucose meter instantly transmits

glucose values to a secure server where this information can be accessed by healthcare

professionals. The system also sends immediate feedback and coaching messages to patients

directly on the patients’ meters.

In addition to reducing cost of care by improving patient health and preventing complications,

Telcare creates an ecosystem of care that provides caregivers with previously unavailable,

actionable clinical data.

7.1.2 mHealth Solutions Significantly Reduce Costs Visiongain: What challenges and opportunities do you expect to see in the mHealth market over the next 5 years?

Dr. Jonathan Javitt: In terms of opportunities, right now we’re already seeing mHealth solutions

helping to substantially reduce the cost of delivering care. At Telcare, we have a major client who

has realized a 50 percent reduction in staff time associated with caring for patients living with

diabetes combined with an improvement on clinical metrics thanks to our solution. I believe we’ll

continue to hear about these kinds of results as the technology and distribution improve.

The largest challenge for the industry will be aligning reimbursement mechanisms with these

benefits so that it makes economic sense to install these solutions.

7.1.3 Key Trends and Developments Driving mHealth Adoption Visiongain: What are the possible market drivers and restraints in the mHealth market?
