2017 has been a year with many positives for the Prom Coast Soccer Club based in Welshpool. The club

done to the Under 12 team for a successful season, unfortunately they just missed finals action. This is a
great positive for the club and we would like to thank all the players, families, coaches and volunteers
for their efforts.
Prom Coast is very grateful to receive generous funding from the Community Bendigo Bank in
supporting the `Player of the Day’ awards and MVP trophy. Thank you also go to Toora Lions club for

Welshpool Golf Club
Well, what a month it has been. NO golf being played for over three weeks due to the course being a tad
water logged. It has dried up somewhat and games were played over the weekend commencing Friday 22nd
September. The scores though were indicative of players not having played for some time as the following
results well attest.
Friday chicken run was won with 18 points by Alan Hayes with balls down the line awarded to Paul Delaney
with 16 points and Greg Wilkinson 15 on a countback from David Lucas. Greg also won the nearest pin on
the 15th.
Saturday was an 18 hole PAR event with the winner being Pappy Pope with a score of minus 1. BLD’s went
to Alan Hayes minus 2 and Pixie Roberts with minus 3. No NTP’s recorded.
Sunday was the Toora Foodworks 18 hole stroke event that saw Pappy once again come out the winner with
a net 71 off a handicap of 19, BDL went to Paul Delaney with a net 73 off a handicap of 12. The nearest the
pin on the 6th went to Trish Latch with a great tee shot and an equally good put to birdie the hole for a score
of 2 for 5 on the hole.
The only other game being played by members was the South Gippsland District Golf Associations 4BBB
Championship held at Woorayl where Grubby Brennan and Alan Hayes teamed up to win the B Grade
handicap championship.
A note to ALL MEMBERS that we will be having a working bee on Thursday 12th October to tidy up the
course for our upcoming Tournament. Bring your rakes etc and help to make YOUR course the way you
want it.

Music……
I am sure you will agree that Music plays a very important part in our lives. Its music we hear from our
parents or grandparents as we grow. It all starts with nursery rhymes; rock a bye baby on the tree top
[Oops sorry that was banned] Jack and Jill that was more acceptable. And at the end, it’s our favourite song
that sends us off as our life is celebrated. To the creator the words can have one meaning but to the
listener you can mould them to your need….That’s the power of music to the memory. In recent years
music was found to be of great help in the recovery of serious illness.
It can make us happy or bring a tear to our eyes. Maybe it’s a tune that reminds us of a loved one or a
milestone in our lives and we all have our favourites that we sing along to, turned up loud for the world to
hear.
Some of us have the natural talent of being able to play an instrument by ear and others have been very
fortunate to have been taught to play an instrument. I, like most, enjoy music but have never had the want
to learn an instrument but as a kid, imagination being the name of the game, would sit in front of the
pianola, fascinated by the rolls, rolling around and the music magically played, along with the black and
white keys moving up and down, without anyone pushing them. Not only was I fascinated by this great
instrument but I imagined I was the pianist belting out the tune, and of course, in front of a large audience.
We all know there was no large audience to applaud when the tune finished, just a scramble to put in
another roll and let the joy continue. And the wonder, of how did it all work, as you watched the works in
the pianola moving up and down, and at the same time the keys, moving up and down and the paper with
the holes in it rolling around. The mechanics didn’t really matter; it was the dream, and the tunes that
some talented person had been able to create that you sang along to.
The fun of music and the great childhood memories was all brought to mind recently as I have been
cataloguing the music sheets at the museum. And what a collection we have. Some date back as early as
1902. Music from the war years. It was music that held everyone together, singing about their loved ones
home waiting for their return or the romance in the air or the musicals by J.C. Williamson, where everyone
came together to enjoy the talent of the creators with song, colour and movement and how it all helped
everyone forget about the woes of life for a short time.
In recent times, sadly, we have learned how some of these talented musicians were being exploited,
fighting drug and alcohol addictions, but who would ever have known of their struggles as they lost
themselves in their music and shared it with the world, for all to enjoy. They appeared so happy in doing
so, and at that moment probably were.
There is a song playing, love it or hate it, but for the rest of that day you can’t get it out of your head.
Yes, that’s music. With us wherever we go.
