LEADERSHIP ELECTIONS FOR CAPTAINS AND VICE-CAPTAINS FOR 2019 Congratulations to our new captains and vice-captains for 2019. It was announced on Monday in a whole school assembly that our captains will be – Jacob Abou-Touma and Ruby Lee, and our vice-captains will be Jonathan Sarayer and Jenifer Hobbs. Thank you to the Stage 3 team, led by Tristan Carruthers for the organisation of these events. I look forward to working with all the leaders in 2019 and would like to take this opportunity to thank the 2018 leaders for their efforts this year. SUN SAFETY The school encourages students to wear a hat, drink water and use sun- screen. Please apply sunscreen to your children before they come to school and encourage them to ask our staff to apply more during the day if needed. Our aim is to always provide a safe environment for our students. YEAR 6 GIFT TO THE SCHOOL Each year the graduating students of Year Six present a small gift to the school. The 2018 students have made a lovely presentation for our hall comprising two signs. The first is the words of our school song and the second is an acknowledgement of country to the traditional owners of the land. Both of these are very significant in the life of our school and I’d like to take the opportunity to invite you to come and enjoy our newest additions to our hall on Monday at our presentation assemblies. Thank you Year Six for such a thoughtful and lasting gift. The school wishes you well as you enter the next part of your educational journey as high school begins in 2019. STAFF NEWS We will say farewell to Josh Jones on the last day of school this year after 4 years with us at Toongabbie PS. Josh will certainly be missed by the staff and students and we wish him all the best as he takes up his permanent classroom teacher role at Dundas Public School next year. Josh began as a casual, then went to Year 5, Year 6 and this year on Kindergarten. His love of music, piano playing and easy-going nature will be missed at TPS. The Kindergarten students in KJ have really enjoyed being in his class. We were also delighted to have him as Band Co-ordinator, which showed his love of entertaining and music. Congratulations Josh. I look forward to seeing many of you at Carols Night, Year 6 graduation and farewell, party days, P & C next Monday, Toonie’s Got Talent, Red Faces and the fabu-lous Year 6 Clap Out. Here is a snapshot of what happened this week at TPS. BAND PLAYING AT BUNNINGS AT ABBOTT ROAD On Thursday night, our band, conducted by Mr John Darcy performed for everyone who visited Bunnings. What a great opportunity to showcase their talent to the many visitors on this busy night before Christmas. Mr Darcy was in the Christmas spirit as well and many of our band members had their faces painted to add to the festive atmosphere. Thank you to our parents for their continued support of this program, particularly Vanessa Wegener and her committee. A report will be later in this newsletter. This will be for K-6 parents, so please join us from 11am-11.40am. SPORT AND CULTURAL ASSEMBLY On Thursday 13th December, we have our Sport and Cultural assembly. If your child is receiving an award you will have received a letter this week. We look forward to seeing you there. This assembly is organised by Mr Howe. HELPERS MORNING TEA Our annual Helpers Morning Tea was held this week on Wednesday 5th December at 11.00am in the staffroom. Thank you to everyone who helped in some capacity during 2018. Toongabbie is enriched by your assistance and it is our small way of thanking you for your efforts during the year. Thanks also to the staff who provided the morning tea and set it up so beautifully in our revamped staff room. We look forward to your assistance in 2019. TOONGABBIE PUBLIC SCHOOL BAND—Vanessa Wegener

On Thursday night the TPS Bands performed Christmas Carols and some of their favourite tunes at Bunnings Seven Hills, for their Annual Xmas Family Fun Night. It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to all perform together and they sounded wonderful. It wasn't all work though, the students were able to enjoy all the fun activities on the night including face painting, gingerbread decorating, craft, simulators, a jumping castle and lots more. It was a well deserved celebration of all their efforts this year and one that the whole family could enjoy. Please see below for photos from the night. Our very own Carol's Night kicks off at 6pm on Wednesday 12th December. Your band committee and volunteers will be serving up a sausage sandwich storm, cakes, drinks & ice creams. We will also be raffling off some fantastic prizes including an Acoustic Guitar package, Bunnings vouchers, Bright Star kids vouchers and an overnight accommodation package at SeaWorld Resort on the Gold Coast! We can't wait to see all of our fellow TPS families there! It's been a fabulous year for our band and 2019 promises to be full of fun learning & exciting performance opportunities in our 25th Anniversary year. It's your last chance to register for our program. Visit www.schoolbands.com.au or email [email protected]
