An exciting new motion picture you may borrow! IThis film portrays the exciting story of radiobroadcasting from its beginning in the garageworkshop of Dr. Frank Conrad, Westinghouseengineer, to the networks that today encirclethe globe.

Depicting the detailed operations of atypical broadcasting day, the film coverswriting, scripting, rehearsal, timing, produc-tion and presentation of radio broadcasts. Atour of a modem radio station leads throughall of these and carries on to the transmitter, where, by means of animated drawings, thetechnical side of broadcasting is shown.

The whole process of radio transmission isso clearly explained that any junior or senior

high school student can easily understand thepnnciples involved.

"On the Air" is recommended for showingin assembly, as well as in connection withcourses in physics, general science and socialstudies. It is available for free loan in 16 mmand 35 mm and runs 28 minutes. SchoolService, Westinghouse Electric & Manufac-turing Company, Pittsburgh 30, Pa.

EDUCATION IS NOT A DESTINATION . .. IT IS A JOURNEY ... ALWAYS, WE ARE EN ROUTE

§ ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ lf s _

Je IST OF THE largest cities in the U. S.are located on rivers because these

winding streams arc transportation routes.About twenty years before the Civil War,Mississippi steamboating was at its height.Later, when railroad builders wanted to puta bridge across the Mississippi, the rivermenobjected. There were quarrels; barges andfloating logs rammed into and destroyedbridge supports. An attorney, Abraham Lin-coln, helped progress to win when he said thatland vehicles traveling east and west hadrights as well as water vehicles travelingnorth and south. The Iron Horse gainedpermission to puff above the chuggingsteamboat.

Every new form of transportation supple-ments the older ones and does what is impos-

sible for its predecessors. Today, a three-dimensional vehicle, the transport plane, travels above all forms of two-dimensionzlsurface transportation.

As one result, geography loses its old mean-ing and time units replace miles as themeasurement for distances that separate allpeoples, everywhere on earth. Due to thefreedom of the transport plane to travel inany direction, and due to its velocity, airtransportation effectively makes the wholeworld smaller than our original thirteenColonies. This change constitutes a greatchallenge to all thinkers, especially to schoolteachers and administrators. Our purpose isto help them. Our periodical, "Air AgeEducation News," will keep youl informed. Please write for a free copy.
