Message from the Head
After another fantastic week at Larkswood half term has arrived. The week has been full of activities for both children
and parents culminating in the LPSA Quiz Night for parents and staff. The feedback has been very positive and parents
are already asking for the date of the next quiz.
I had a very enjoyable afternoon on Tuesday with the parents who attended afternoon ‘Tea with the Head’ and would like
to thank all the parents that attended the academy consultations meetings this week. Your involvement is valued and
this week’s newsletter contains details of a further meeting.
You should have received your sponsor form for the annual whole school sponsored walk so please ask aunts, uncles,
grandparents and friends to sponsor your child for this great event.
I hope you all have a wonderful and safe half term.
See you back at school on Monday, 2nd June.

Quiz Night Success!!
A great night was had by all on Thursday at the first LPSA Quiz Night!
11 tables of parents, carers, friends and staff from Larkswood pitted their wits against each other at
the first ever LPSA Quiz Night. You could hear the cogs turning through each round of questions
between the sips of green tea and hot chocolate ;)
Teams took a well deserved break half way through the evening with a fish supper and a choice of condiments. The second
half of the night concluded with further rounds of questions, a raffle and the final results.
Many thanks to the LPSA for organising such a successful evening which was both great fun and also a wonderful way to
raise funds for the school. We all look forward the next one.
A whopping £600 was raised and as usual every penny will go back into the school to benefit the children of Larkswood.
Our Quiz Night raised £600 Well done everyone!

Congratulations to some of the students in the class who performed in a competition back in February in Chingford, Tilly, Char-lotte, Megan, Hannah and Mia. All the girls walked away with a medal and a top 10 place. Also congratulations to Megan who came 5th & 6th place at a dance competition in Hemel Hempstead recently. Keep up the good work girls.

Whole School Sponsored Walk
Thursday, 19th June 2014: Larkswood Fields
Dear Parents and Carers
I am writing to invite you to our 2nd Whole School Sponsored Walk that will take place on Thursday, 19th June at
Larkswood Fields.
June is our main fundraising month here at Larkswood and all previous money raised has been ploughed straight
back into the school. Our main fund raising project ‘Bringing the Wood Back to Larkswood’ has gone from
strength to strength with the implementation of the EYFS and KS2 playscapes and the on-going development of
the wilderness area. We couldn’t have done any of this without your continual support.
You should now have received your sponsorship form (keep it safe!). A copy is also included in this newsletter and fur-
ther copies can be found at the school office.
Please ask family and friends if they would like to support the school by sponsoring your child or children to put their
best foot forward for this year’s event.
The distance walked depends on the Key Stage that your child/children are in.
More information about the day and distance to walk for each key stage will follow.
No amount is too small and every penny raised benefits the children of Larkswood.
It’s going to be a great day!

Larkswood Sponsored Walk 2013 FLASHBACK……………….
As part of working with the wider community, we are working with the police in Waltham Forest on their 'Speed Watch Project'. Last week, Michelle (PSCO) came into school to work with KS2 about road safety. As part of this work, Michelle explained to the children the laws that drivers need to adhere to in order to keep themselves and others safe, and keep their licence. This included using the speed gun to measure some of our fastest runners speeds (including Mr Hau's!).
This week, six of our year 5 children went with a police team to participate in the speed watch project in Chingford. The children supported the police in their speed watch project. We spoke to the adults who were caught speeding about the im-portance of driving safely and keeping to the speed limit, especially close to busy areas like our school. We asked them questions about why they were speeding. One adult said 'you're right there is no excuse, I won't be doing it again.' The police team were very grateful for our help!
Year 2 Interview Superheroes in their literacy lesson
The children’s comments….
'That was the best afternoon at school ever!'
'I can't believe people drive too fast near a school'
'The police are so good at explaining how to stay safe, they are here to help us'
'Being in the police van was well cool'

QuadKids is the way to go!
QuadKids in the glorious sunshine! On a quiet and warm Tuesday morning on 20th May 2014, more than 15 teams arrived at Pool and Track to com-
pete in the second of three QuadKids competitions. QuadKids is an exciting athletics concept designed to give more children the opportunity to participate in and enjoy the benefits of track and field athletics. It is a team based quadrathalon competition where each athlete does a sprint, a longer run, a jump and a throw. Larkswood had entered 2 teams – Year 5 and 6, and they have toiled and worked tremendously hard during training to get themselves up to speed and into competitive fitness. We were ready! All of the children were split into their respective groups and were soon off to do one of their four events. After the
Year 5 children had completed their 600m run, and the Year 6 children had thrown the vortex howler (javelin) three times, they swapped over. In the Year 5 600m run, we finished in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place – what a perfor-mance! Soon, it was lunch time and an opportunity for all of the chil-dren to have some food and refreshments – well deserved! The children were anxious about how we were performing and were constantly asking what position we were in. Howev-er, due to the nature of the competition, and the competition being carried over 3 days, it was extremely difficult to tell or estimate our position. After lunch it was time for the standing long jump and the 75m sprint. Both year groups performed exceptionally well and finished in excellent positions, earning valuable points for
the team! Before we knew it, all of the events had been completed and there was a short presenta-tion for certificates and recognition was handed out to all those who had helped organise and brought the competition to life! Overall, it was a fantastic day and the children performed outstandingly! We still do not have the result, but I am sure that once Shona Gordan, a SGO from Chingford Foun-dation, has calculated all of the results and scores, she will inform all of the school with the results. When
WATCH OUT FOR THE RESULTS IN THE NEXT NEWSLETTER! The winning school will be going to the London Youth Games at Crystal Palace! Onwards and upwards!
