Dear Jane

BRACE YOURSELF: THE ELECTION IS COMING.

According to the Electoral Commission, this Saturday 15 March will be the first time you’ll be voting at a State Election in SA!

As a new voter in the Light electorate, you might want to know more about your local candidates. That’s why we’re writing to you - we’re supporting the current local member, Tony Piccolo, and we think you should too.

WHO ARE WE?We’re five young people living in and around Gawler and Light. We’re angry about what is happening to Australia under Tony Abbott, and we’re worried about what will happen to our state and our local area if the SA Liberals get in too.

We’re asking you to look beyond party politics and weigh up which candidate will best serve you and your community. This is why we support Tony:

TONY BELIEVES IN A FAIR GOMany people our age work part time and casual hours, so we rely on penalty rates to give us a fair income. The Liberals don’t support penalty rates and are trying to get rid of them. Tony does support penalty rates and he fights for them.

WE NEED TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENTTony’s worked hard with the federal and local governments on environmental issues: he spearheaded a program to put solar panels on 5000 Housing SA houses, providing cheap, sustainable energy to local families. He also helped create the Gawler Walking and Bike Trails, giving people a safer and more scenic route to walk and ride.

He also opposes the Liberal’s plan to grow Roseworthy by 100,000 people, destroying valuable farming land.

PUBLIC TRANPORT IS VITALIt’s expensive to run a car, especially for people our age. That’s why Tony’s lobbied successfully to improve public transport in Gawler and surrounding areas. He’s committed to the electrification of the Adelaide to Gawler line, something the Libs are against. And the new Gawler metro buses provide many young people with a link to the local railway stations.

TONY VALUES COMMUITYTony has supported numerous community organisations and events, and is currently helping to establish a community radio station in Gawler. He’s also been successful in assisting many local sports clubs win valuable grants to support their members.

EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT ARE IMPORTANTTony’s worked hard for his local schools to ensure young people get the best available schooling including vocational education and training opportunities. He has strongly supported the Skills For All program to help young people obtain valuable vocational training.

THE FUTUREThis is a snapshot of what Tony has delivered in the past, and with your support, he can continue to do good work into the future.

We are asking you to support Tony, not just because of the party he belongs to, but because he is an individual who stands up for his community. Will you stand with us?
