Last Saturday many of us were in Burgerveen

for the first edition of the Looye Olympics.

Everything was put together bright and early by

a few of our colleagues: flags were set in place,

tables folded out and parasols were arranged.

At around half past two backpacks were handed

out to all of the athletes, along with the schedule

and a snack. It turned out to be a great area for

sports or simply to hang out together. There was

also a bouncy castle available to entertain the

children.

All teams did their best in all five of the

disciplines and the level of competition on

LOOYE OLYMPICS 2016

display was outstanding! The beautiful weather,

delicious barbecue and Looye DJ provided the

rest. Despite some nasty injuries along the way

the day went well and the ‘De Rupsen’ Team from

Burgerveen managed to take the spoils and a

big challenge trophy home with them.

I would like to express my gratitude to the

organising committee and everyone who lent

a helping hand on the day for their fantastic

eff orts. I also want to thank the athletes for their

performance on the day and ... we were so proud

that we decided that this simply has to become a

tradition.

The next edition of the Looye Olympics will

therefore be held on: SATURDAY - 26 August

2017

On Monday, 22 August we had an unusual visitor

in the parking lot in Naaldwijk as a hedgehog

decided that the piece of ground behind Niels

Roodenrijs’s car was a good place to take a

break. When Niels walked to his car after work at

the end of the day he noticed the little creature

sitting there. As befits a true animal lover Niels

knew immediately that something was not quite

right, especially considering that hedgehogs

are nocturnal and very shy. The fact that the

hedgehog simply sat there set off alarm bells for

Niels. After consultation by phone he decided to

take the little critter to a hedgehog rescue centre

in Delft, where they confirmed that it was good

that he had brought it in. It appeared to be a

very weak female hedgehog , but they confirmed

that they would be able to get her back on her

feet again. They named her Eva. Could it be a

coincidence that Eva decided to rest behind

Niels’ car?

We have since contacted the hedgehog rescue

centre in Delft and they told us that Eva was her

old self again and they would be able to release

her next week.

INTRODUCING... Marc Janssen & Tina Tsaparas

In late May our permanent quality manager

left the employment of Looye Kwekers, which

meant that we had to find a replacement for

this position.

Marc Janssen and Tina Tsaparas were

appointed with effect from 1 August to bring

a fresh perspective to quality management at

Looye Kwekers.

Marc is an independent entrepreneur and

through his company HortiQuality he is

constantly solving issues related to quality

management and the implementation of

quality systems. Marc works 1.5 days a week

for Looye Kwekers and he will mainly deal with

quality assurance in Looye’s greenhouses. A

uniform hygiene protocol within the nurseries is

an important part of his duties.

Tina Tsaparas is following a traineeship at N&S

Quality Consultants, which she will attend one

day a week, while she will be working at Looye

Kwekers on the other four days. She will mainly

be responsible for quality related aspects at

the packaging division and outline the quality

systems related to the office in Naaldwijk.

Together they will play an important part at

quality care for Looye and Marc and Tina are

working towards implementing a Looye quality

system. She requires cooperation from all of the

departments to provide answers to some key

issues. You are very likely to run into Marc and

Tina in the near future!

As you know preparations are in

full swing for the upcoming Works

Council elections, which will be held

on 12 October 2016.

We have 15 candidates, so

competition will be fi erce. This is also

the reason why Arja, Tomek, Niels

from the Marketing department and

I sat around the table last week to

discuss the Works Council candidates.

Topics included a candidate poster

and a special edition of Tomaat en

Praat.

We decided that a poster with photos

and a few words from the candidates

for the Works Council had to be

issued. You may already have seen

these posters that are currently on

display at various locations.

Niels was responsible for the layout

of the poster and he is also in charge

of the extra edition of Tomaat en

Praat. The coaches at the various

locations helped to collect information about the

candidates.

Arja and the members of the ‘Get the taste’

group are busy with preparations and this is sure

to be very exciting.

The election dates and the list of employees

who are eligible to vote for their favourite

candidates have already been announced. If all

went according to plan you should already have

received an invitation from Arja for a briefi ng.

We all got a big fright this past Wednesday in

Naaldwijk as one of our colleagues became

unwell at work.

Fortunately, many people within our company

have undergone first aid training, which was

good to see. A group of employees took the

person who had become unwell to a cooler

and calmer area, while someone called 112 and

yet another went to fetch the AED (automated

external defibrillator).

The police and ambulance arrived very quickly to

take over from our colleagues.

You will be happy to hear that our colleague is

doing much better, but it will still take some time

before full recovery.

In retrospect we are truly grateful with how well

this situation was handled!

Thank you! Great job!

BIG FRIGHT!

Hi! My name is Marcin Kogut and I’m 27 years

old. I come from Poland from an area called

Tarnów in the province of Małopolskie. I have

been working at Looye for the past 5 months.

At work I am mostly busy de-leafi ng and cutting

tomatoes, which I enjoy very much.

... in your personal life?

I came to the Netherlands with my fi ancé

because we wanted to come and work here

so that we can fulfi l our dreams in Poland. We

currently live in Vlaardingen. My main interests

include sports and cars and in my spare time I

try to relax, go shopping or visit some interesting

places in my area.

... in your work?

At work I’m surrounded by great people who

are very responsive and who are always ready

to help. I’m very grateful for that. Clearing of

greenhouse no. 1 is taking place at the moment

and it is interesting to follow the whole process

from start to fi nish and to actually be a part of it.

... in the world?

The world is beautiful, but people are busy

destroying it. You hear about ongoing armed

confl ict, aggressions and terrorist attacks in

the news all the time. This is terrible, especially

because children and innocent people are the

ones who suff er most. I hope that violence and

bloodshed will become something of the past.
