Child Care Initiatives
• Focus on health and safety:o Increase of $3.9 million in federal funds for an
additional 60 staff for child care inspections.
• Focus on access to care:o Increase of $17.8 million in federal funds for the Child
Care Works Subsidized Child Care Program to serve an additional 3,600 children.

• Focus on quality:o Increase of $11.4 million in federal
funds for Rising STARS tiered reimbursement for STAR 3 and 4 programs.
o Increase of $2 million in federal funds to establish infant/toddler add-on rates for STAR 2, 3, and 4 providers.

Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge: Early Childhood Education Community Innovation Zone Grants
• 50 grants awarded to schools and neighborhoods o 12 grants were awarded in Phase Io 38 grants will be awarded in Phase II
• Maximum grant award in Phase II is $75,000 per year for three years
• Phase II applications due April 3
