Letter from the President...

Our Toledo Symphony League year has had a FANTASTIC start so far. This summer, many of

us were lucky enough to attend Beth Bowman’s Party of Note, “A Midsummer Tea”. It was

a lovely event with delicious food and tea, plus it was a chance to get together with other

League members.

Our Opening Luncheon was well attended and this year we welcomed 3 new Crescendos,

Cindy Champer, Susan Lang and Teresa Lineres. Congratulate them and thank them for

their service to the TSL next time you see them. All the crescendos who attended the

Opening Luncheon were recognized and given a pink long stem rose by our V.P. of Membership, Beth Bowman.

Thank you, Mary Beaber and Barb Bettinger for arranging the Luncheon, plus to all of our wonderful Crescendos and

hardworking volunteers.

Leaguers Who Lunch has been well attended so far. You can join the group for $50 at any time during the year. It

is a fun way to get together for lunch and socializing. The raffles help to make more money to support our mission.

Thank you, JoAnn Phipps, and her committee for pulling it all together.

Chick Flick, our September Party of Note, was a GREAT success! It was well attended with delicious food, wine and

a very funny movie, “My Cousin Vinnie”. Thank you, Marcia Helman for organizing the group and pulling it all togeth-

er for a very enjoyable evening.

Our first Tune in Tuesday was on October 22 at Belmont with Bill McDevitt, a TSO bass player. It was a fun way of

learning something new as we socialize over lunch. Thank you, Mary Beaber, Barb Bettinger and Beth Bowman for

setting up this event.

Last but not least, “Hungarian Rhaps-BOO-Dy” on October 24 at the Toledo Club was the perfect fall event. It was a

wonderful evening of fun and great food. Thanks Marlene Uhler and Beth Bowman for organizing the evening.

We are well on our way to funding our pledge to the Toledo Symphony. Thank you, because we can’t do it without

all of our members support and attendance to our special events. Remember, Things get solved when you get in-

volved!

Musician Survival Bags

Expect a reminder call if we do not yet have your com-mitted items for the survival totes. We need to arrange pick-up by Friday, November 15, so that we can complete our shopping with the monetary donations that have been sent to Susan Lang. Final stuffing of the bags is planned for Thursday, Novem-ber 21, 11 AM, Brandywine Country Club, after the Gen-eral Board meeting. It would be wonderful if four or five volunteers could come to assist Board members at the assembly line that morning. Brandywine has good food, so stay on with us for lunch after the work is done. Call us (or we will phone you) in time to have everything ready by November 21.

Thank you so much, Joyce Stenberg (419-356-3560) Helen Patton (419-304-8411)

Membership Beth Bowman, VP of Membership

The Toledo Symphony League was proud to honor

three of its members with Crescendo Awards at the

Opening Luncheon in September. Cindy Champer, Su-

san Lang and Teresa Linares were honored for their

contributions to the TSL. Eighteen Crescendos, who

attended the Opening Luncheon, were acknowledged

with both verbal thanks and long-stemmed pink roses.

It was a lovely way to say thank you.

The TSL has many opportunities for members to work,

learn, have fun and introduce friends to the TSL, plus

raise money for our projects and our pledge to the

TSO. One is by attending “Tune in Tuesdays”. The first

of the current series was October 22 and featured TSO

bass, Bill McDevit. Two others are scheduled for Feb-

ruary 18, 2020 and March 17, 2020. Cost is $25.00,

which includes lunch and $100 honorarium to the

speaker. Mary Beaber and Barb Bettinger chair this

program.

“Parties of Note”, chaired by the Executive Committee,

offers opportunities to make new friends while raising

money for the TSL. The next “Party of Note” is a

luncheon on December 18, 2019 at the Toledo Club

called “International Joy”. Please refer to the attached

flyer for more information. Please SAVE Sunday March

8, 2020 for our annual “Luck of the Irish Party” at Ca-

pers. This PON is under the very enthusiastic chair-

manship of Shelli Jacobs. You won’t want to miss the

great food and terrific Celtic Music!

International Joy The holidays are around the corner. “International Joy”, the 3rd “Party of Note” of the year, is designed as a “break in the holiday craziness” to share a lovely lunch and holiday memories with TSL friends. The “International Joy” Buffet Luncheon is Wednesday, De-cember 18 at the Toledo Club, at 11:30. $30.00 pp. The club’s annual “Parade of Christmas Trees” has been reimag-ined to include international cultural and faith tradi-tions. Guests are encouraged to come in early and tour the trees, wreaths, and displays. The Lunch Buffet will include 2 soups, salads, baked potato bar, beverage and dessert. Your hosts, Marlene Uhler, Joni Fought, Jane Wurth, and Beth Bowman welcome guests to bring a holiday item spe-cial to them for display on a “Shared Joy” table. Items can run the gamut from Holiday recipes, favorite holiday mov-ies, pictures, serving pieces, heirloom decor, your imagina-tion is the limit! Please send your $30.00 check, made out to TSL, to Beth Bowman, 7728 Woodstone Dr., Maumee, OH 43537. Reservations are Limited to 25! Questions? Email Beth at [email protected]

Chick Flick THANK YOU to all who attended Chick Flick. A VERY SPECIAL

THANK YOU TO Kathy Scheer, Beth Bowman, Liz Villarreal-

Rowe, Susan Lang, Dorothy Bonser, and Kentucky Fried

Chicken for their help in making it a very successful fun even-

ing. If you missed Chick Flick this year

you will want to make sure you re-

serve a seat as soon as it is advertised

next year because it has grown in

popularity and there will be a limit as

to how many seats are available.

Discussion has already begun for next

year’s event and I can tell you it will

be a show stopper!!
