‘tis the season to be crafty++welcome to toile2013 has been an incredibly blessed year for Damask Love. Back in January, I set goals for the

blog and all have come to fruition. I’ve seen increased readership and had the opportunity to work

on some incredible collaborations with other bloggers and brands. With less than two months left in the year, I’m

excited to round out 2013 with a project that I’ve wanted to tackle for quite some time. Every year , holiday guides pop

up around blogland, but I have yet to find one that speaks directly to my crafty, paper-loving, shopaholic, DIY-er soul! And with that in mind, Toile (pron: twahl) was born.

Toile is a labor of love. For weeks, the craftroom has been strewn with more craft supplies and projects than that scene where Buddy the Elf redecorates Gimbel’s for Santa’s arrival. Thanks to Toile, I’m now on a first name basis with the UPS delivery person and I’ve worn a track between my house and Michael’s Craft Store. All that to say...it’s been crazy up in here. As you flip through Toile, you’ll find tons of creative holiday inspiration including gift ideas, tutorials, recipes, printables and even a guest appearance by Mr. Damask Love himself...because, he just can’t miss out on a good time. Before you start flipping through, here are a few pointers:

Page 3: Toile: A Damask Love Blog Holiday Publication

crafty++ HOW TO READ TOILE:• Get comfy and grab a cup of tea...or coffee...or egg nog...or vodka...or all four (no judgement here). Don’t try to tackle it all at once! There’s alot here, so come back and read when you have time.

• Have a notepad and pen handy. And make sure it’s a cute hand-made notebook. I would expect nothing less of you! There will be lots of items you’ll want to jot down onto your wishlist.

• Get your mouse hand ready for some clicking. Toile is an interactive guide which means there are clickable links throughout. You’ll find “hidden” tutorials, pingbacks and reviews that you don’t want to miss. And, if you’re itching to spend some money, all the supply lists and gift suggestions are linked to their appropriate online retailer.

• Feel free to forward! I love my husband...but let’s be honest, the man knows absolutely nothing about craft supplies! If you’re in the same boat, go ahead and send Toile to your husband, wife, friend, boss, baby daddy & Oprah. (I mean, she did give out cars...maybe she wants to hand out stamps and cardstock this time!)

I can’t tell you how many novice crafters I meet who are intimidated by the idea of building their craft stash. The task of choosing the best supplies can deter many people from diving into the creativity and fun of crafting.

FOR THE GIVERS:Give your crafty loved one a boost of creativity with the best in crafting basics. If you are looking for the most bang for your buck, consider purchasing a few stamps, some pre-cut cards and an inkpad or two. Make them special, by packaging it all in a cute tote or gift basket!

FOR THE RECEIVERS:If you’re a crafter in

need of a few staples, be sure to put the Fiskars Procision Paper Trimmer on your wishlist! I’ve owned mine for a few months and it

I would be a darling millionaire. But until that happens...I’ll be taking notes and sketching in these cuties.

What on earth would we do without blogs. Personally, I’d have to find something to do with my days, since I spend no less than 2 hours a day surfing my favorite creative blogs.

To make sure those bloggers have every-thing they need to keep on creating, I’ve found a few gifts that are right up their alley!

Of the items on this list, I have a special love for the Clyde iPad Satchel which I received this summer. The back of the satchel has a

plushly lined pocket perfectly sized for your iPad or Mac-Book Air.

As crafters and creative people, sometimes it’s nice to relax and flip through actual pages

rather than swiping on our tablets.

FOR THE GIVERS:Books always make for a great gift. Per-sonalize them even more by including a personalized book-plate stamp.

If your crafter prefers digital reading, the Dictionary iPad case is a whimsical gift

option!

While I might not spend my days toiling over a Cuttlebug, I do con-sider myself some-what creative. I put a

fair amount of atten-tion into fashion, music,

and design. Amber asked me to give a little guidance for those looking to find a great gift for the dude(s) in their lives.

FOR THE GIVERS:1) No more cheap tools and cologne 2) I get all of the ESPN I need for free. I don't need a book about ESPN or a subscription to ESPN Maga-zine no matter how many free pull-over fleeces come with it.

In general, look to keep it simple. See what he already uses and try to offer an upgrade or an addition to a collection. I own more Air Jordans than I have room for. Do I want more Air Jordans? Most definitely. I am sure my coworkers would love to see me storing shoe boxes in my office.

I love the look of large sentiments that fall off the edge of a card. It’s a simple detail that adds so much sophistication to your handmade designs. Sadly, I was unable to find sentiment stamps that fit this need, so I decided to create one of my own. I’m excited to introduce “Over-the-Edge:Joy” a holiday-themed stamp set that can be used on it’s own or combined with the stamps that you already have in your stash. “Over the Edge: Joy” is an extremely limited stamp set that will only be available until sold out.

Page 19: Toile: A Damask Love Blog Holiday Publication

The oversized “Joy” sentiment is designed in a font reminiscent of handwritten script. This font translates beautifully onto all types of projects including large tags, chalk-board themed cards and simple holiday stationery. Here, I stamped the sentiment onto the largest tag in the Traditional Stax Tag set from www.mftstamps. The two work perfectly together.v

Page 20: Toile: A Damask Love Blog Holiday Publication

You can stamp this large off the edge senti-ment without many other embellishments and the results are beautiful!

Page 21: Toile: A Damask Love Blog Holiday Publication

Over the Edge: Joy works wonderully with your other stamp sets to create non-holiday cards. Here, I paired the large sen-timent with small floral images and an accompanying sentiment that makes a perfect wedding day card.

I’ve got a group of handmade projects that are totally doable and totally giftable for just about every recipient you can think of.

Fruitcake gets such a bad rap. Truth be told, I’ve never eaten the stuff. You’d think that anything with “cake” in it’s name should be ranked up there with milkshakes and that unmanned bowl of Halloween candy on your next-door

neighbor’s porch. But, alas fruit-cake is pretty much the gift-

giving equivalent of “Merry Christmas...

Lucky for you, I’ve got the perfect solution for this holi-day loafcake conundrum which includes one of my favorite recipes and a few printable tags that will

assembling mallo cups

1. Pour melted chocolate into baking cups. I’ve found that aluminum ones are easier than paper cups when peeling the cup off.

2. Use a pastry brush to bring melted chocolate up the sides. You may need to repeat this step to create thick enough sides to hold the marshmallow cream.

3. Pipe peppermint marshmallow cream into cup.

4. Pour melted chocolate on top and sprinkle with crush candy canes. Allow to cool at room temperature until hardened, then peel away baking cup.

You’d think that all my friends and family would be swim-ming in handmade cards, but the truth is that I am terrible about sending out the projects I make.

Well, this Christmas I’m gonna make ...and send cards if it’s the last thing I do (which it may very well be).

As long as I’m going to tackle Christmas cards, they should probably be simple and easy to mass produce. Let’s get started...

Most people enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the spa or a fun trip to the movies. Me? My idea of heaven is having a hour or so of uninterripted shopping at the Container Store. Yeah. Weird.

I just love packaging and all the possibilities for dressing up gifts with some handmade flair.

Even if you never create handmade packaging, the holidays are the perfect excuse to break that habit. In this section, you’ll find ideas ranging from super simple to a little more advanced. Hopefully, you’ll be inspired to create something pretty for under the tree.
