“R enew the face of the earth."
Now that Jesus has risen from the dead,
having personally appeared to many people over the
course of 40 days, and ascended to the Father,
the Promised One is now sent to the Apostles.
The Advocate, the Paraclete, the living, constantly
abiding, inspiring, renewing Holy Spirit of God
comes upon them in fire and power. In that upper
room, a place that some of us who have traveled to
the Holy Land have seen with our own eyes, the
Spirit of the Living God descended upon the
Apostles in the cenacle (with Mary present),
igniting a new chapter in Salvation History.
Far from feeling abandoned and confused,
the Apostles were filled with certainty and spiritual
confidence; they were energized, ennobled with
spiritual gifts (among them fortitude) and sent in
the power of the Spirit to renew the face of the earth
in the light of the Gospel of Christ. To revitalize,
spiritualize, and Christianize the face of the earth
was now their life's purpose and mission. It now
falls to us, the contemporary community of Jesus'
followers to welcome the same Spirit of God into
our lives and to do the same. Renew the face of the
earth!
In each of my eleven assignments as a priest,
I have been conscious of the responsibility to heal,
vivify, and renew the Church and its membership.
My methodology has been one of organizing a
quality team of coworkers, beautifying the landscape
of our labors, gathering into community a diversity
of peoples in love with the Lord, solemnly and
reverently expressing that love in worshipful
liturgical prayer and praise, responding with zeal to
those eager to be fed, helping people to advance in
the knowledge of the truth, and inviting all to be
generous with their time and resources to the glory
of God. As providence would have it, our Parish
Council embraced a wonderful mission statement,
printed each week on the front cover of our bulletin,
that succinctly and meaningfully summarizes these
sentiments. We are "together, worshipping the Lord,
forming disciples, serving in the name of Jesus."
My priestly mission, and yes our parish mission, has
everything to do with "renewing the face of the
earth" in a way that advances the cause of Christ
and his promises in the hearts of all. This is
sometimes done prayerfully, sometimes artistically,
sometimes with exhortation, sometimes with
discipline, but above all with love of the Lord and in
service to His Mystical Body, the Church.
As I take leave of you this week, I invite you
again to welcome the gifts of the Holy Spirit in your
life. If you don't know what they are, then activate a
zealous faith that leads you to search out and
discover your spiritual potential in Christ. Life is
very short. We often waste so much time. We
frequently miss the opportunity to live deeply and
completely. To "renew the face of the earth" has
everything to do with the renewal of our own lives,
saturating them with holiness, prayer, kindness,
generosity, mercy, goodness, forgiveness and
charity. These charisms will form hearts that reflect
our Risen Lord to a waiting world.
And finally, I commend you to the maternal care
of the Blessed Mother, Mary. The Holy Spirit
fashioned her into the masterpiece of God.
The Holy Spirit overshadowed her and guided her
every step and her every utterance. May you always
have a place in your journey for the "Mama" of our
Blessed Lord. With Mary, you can never go
wrong!
Thanks, Little Flower, for a great 8 years on the
journey of faith! If I don't see you before, I'll see you
in eternity. In the meantime, let's keep renewing the
face of the earth to the glory of Christ!
Love,
Fr. Davis
FROM THE DESK OF FATHER DAVIS
A menudo perdemos tanto tiempo.

convenience of home or right from your smart devices. Simply create a “My Own Church” username and password and you’ll be able to review the information we have on file, provide updates if you’ve moved or changed your phone or email, find your envelope
number, view your contribution history, and more. Gaining access to the “My Own Church” portal takes only a
minute. Just click the “Registration” option in the menu of our parish website (www.COTLF.org). Once you are matched to an existing record, or have a new record created, you’ll be granted full access to update your family details and remain informed of all the good things happening at COTLF! As always, you are welcome to call or visit the parish office for any assistance with registering or updating your contact information, as well.
In light of the transition of administration that is taking place at our parish on June 15th, and hoping to give Father Manny some time to get settled, we are going to postpone the Father-Son Communion Breakfast, originally scheduled for June 15th.
